Thanks, FR. If we win, you're hired through the playoffs (except, of course, you'll probably be at those games. ;-)
I wish that were the case, but I'm all the way out here and finals are the week after it. But I'll probly be watching in San Jose with the Bay Area group anyways.
AFAIK, all combinations that result in either a 2-way or 3-way tie for first with Cornell result in a Cornell RS title and #1 seed. Here's hoping for the best.
Onion with a nice forecheck so far, but no serious scoring threats. Also, the announcers on the webcast clearly are pros.
From USCHO: Dartmouth/SLU has been pushed back to about 8:15 due to snow.
We need +1 vs Gate and Dartmouth tonight.
The announcers are Jayson Moy (from WRPI and USCHO) and Matt Dubroy (WRUC's regualr play by play guy)
"Things come together at Union College"...except during the playoffs.
The Lynah Faithful that made the trip are being heard loud and clear. Shouldn't that be worth at least a goal??
Face-off upcoming in Union's zone. 13:27 left in the first.
McKee nice save on a partial screen. Covers for the whistle. We had lots of trouble getting the puck out on that shift.
"Three sections of Cornell fans."
Sounds like the best Faithful showing in Schenectady ever. Hopefully they'll come home really happy.
The Abbotts together with McCuthceon on 5x5.
Moy calling #7 "Cook" instead of Davenport. Wishful thinking.
LGR!!!!
pp. moulson off the crossbar. out not in. but 2 good shots thus far.
Good camera angle on the replay of Moulson hitting the crossbar
Moulson Crossbar.
Moulson off the crossbar on the Cornell PP. Great replays!
LGR!!!
Now I remember why I loved playing in this rink, the band sounds 5 times as big as it is.
PP with 9:49 left
mckee with the save on a 1 on 0
kennedy is just let another one out over the blue line. pp over and union out of the box in alone on mcKee, but McKee comes up big. phew.
McKee with a big one as the PP ends
*snicker* guy runs into mckee
Was that Jim Hyla on tv? I recognize that turtle neck anywhere.
6:45 left in the 1st, Cornell to the PP.
Onion with a nice forecheck so far, but no serious scoring threats. Also, the announcers on the webcast clearly are pros.
"Clearly pros." Such as the pre-game remark that the key for Union is to "score early and score often." Seems Union, like Cornell, has a better record when it scores first.
But thank you, Time Warner, for such dazzling webcast technologies as instant replay and an onscreen scoreboard. Wonder is CSTV knows about them.
The "pros" have apologized for both of the early Union penalties. (OK, Moy did say that running into and upending Mckee in open ice wasn't smart.)
McKee upended, PP coming.
goal waved off :(
EDIT: said sawada kicked it in...but replay doesnt show it
Sawada scores and it's ruled no goal, kicking. Replay shows he didn't kick it. The announcers do note than angling the skate counts as directing.
I didnt see a leg even move?!
waved off due to kicking motion by swada. he turned/pivoted and in doing so directed the puck in the net,
Moulson shoots wide.
auugghhh.

I don't see any "distinct kicking motion." Sigh.
BTW, has the rule changed from last year? I thought you could review a goal when it was broadcast on TV?

Plus the crossbar he hit early on, that's 2 of the 3 goals he would have needed for his hat trick for this season.

hahaha camera shows union fan flipping the birds
Union 12% PP and like 1x26 the last couple games vs 88% Cornell PK. No way they'll score. No way. Woof. Especially now that Union draws a penalty during PP.
4-4 for 1:03. union takes a penalty 3:40 in the first. Chris abbott and barlow?
"Fantastic penalty killing shift..."

Their band is a couple of speakers and a Jock Jams CD circa 1995.
Haven't seen Union band yet.
I'm sure the DJ is tucked away in a corner where he usually stands.
Well, I retract my praise of the announcers, to some extent. NThey're not bad, but praising the "penalty kill" during a 4-on-4 ain't exactly Sam Rosen and John Davidson .:-P
And I retract my criticism. Jason Moy and Tonto, or whoever the sidekick is, know their stuff (Matt DuBrey, sorry) ... as you'd expect hockey announcers should. They're homers, but that's the case in the NHL hometown broadcasts too. Marissa or Melissa, the sideline announcer, her skill relative to the announcers is roughly equal to the skills of an NFL sideline color person relative to NFL announcers.
Scary thing. I didn't fix the stretching early on -- 4:3 image on a 16:9 TV -- and it's not good showing Jason Moy or Mike Schafer or anyone else with roundish facial characteristics.
RPI scores on the PP. Go Red!
Union 9 shots, Cornell 5
Union 3 penalties, Cornell 1
5 shots on goal for 2-and-a-fraction (there was overlap) powerplays, plus the rest of the first period, is not Frozen Four level offense for the Big Red. LGR.
After 1: RPI 0 Colgate 0

This is where Rich S jumps in and says, "Hey, what about Clarkson? Why don't you mention us, too?"
Jason Moy: "It's hard to believe they [Cornell] could get shut out for the entire weekend." This after noting Cornell is being outshot 14-5.
McKee is doing his part to keep union off the board. 2 really good saves in the past few minutes.
We've seem to have had more miscues already this period than in most of the first period
Carefoot in the box for 2.
Carefoot gets called off for being run into?
the announcers said it was more like setting a pick. ::screwy::
CAM!!!!!! SHG
SHORTIE ABBOT FROM PEGS!
Edit: Pegs, not Gleed. Gleed intercepted it an passed it to Pegs, generating a 2 on 1.
Woohoo!!!

Pegs and Abbott get a 2 on 1.

I guess it was technically a pick, but looked like he was just trying to stay onsides. Oh well, we got a shorty off of it :-P

Nice work by Bitz, but no shot on net.

Colgate just tied it.
Sorry, Greg.
Colgate tied RPI late in the second period on a ppg. Now 1-1 after two periods.
Colgate ties up RPI, 1-1.
Wow. what a shift. solid pressure in union's zone for ~ 2 min but even with a union player "stickless", we couldn't bury one.
Pegs did a great job keeping the puck in at the point.
Cornell pp.
Sorry, Greg.

Hey, if all the current scores held (1-0, 1-1, 0-0), we'd still win the RS title. :-D
Tons of pressure, but nothing trickles in.
Awesome Cornell pressure at 10:00 of second period just before Cornell gets PP. Just like at RPI (actually better) where it looked like CU on a PP and it was even strength. But no goals. Just like at rpi.
crap. Shorty for Shorty.
shoot. union with a shg. came in all alone. top shelf. :-(
Interesting contrast to the RPI-Cornell game yesterday.
Second period saves:
Dekanich 17, Lange 1
Thru two:
Dekanich 23, Lange 7
That was just awful.
Just when I'm thinking that Union is really challenging our point men, Bitz makes an awful turnover leading to the shortie :-(
McKee was no where near that puck. Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that McKee can't stop the breakway?
Naughty Bitz :`(
McKee was no where near that puck. Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that McKee can't stop the breakway?
He stopped one of his only ones this season earlier in the game.
Bitz should not be on the point on the PP, but there aren't many other options.
Well this PP has blown.
Glover to the box when stopping another breakout.
but we are going to be short-handed again... Glover takes 2.
Good news, we go on shorthanded duty. B-]
Now Glover takes a penalty ... maybe a good thing ;-)
Bitz is OBs or Pokulaks spot. We dont have many options right now though.
What is David's record against breakaways and penalty shots this year? I believe goalies have a slightly better than 50% save average on penalty shots. Don't know what it is for breakaways where the goalie probably has a slightly better average because the shooter doesn't know if someone's chasing him and may force the shot.
Man, those were some juicy rebounds.:-(
3 shots on goal while short-handed, 3 mayotte saves. We NEED a scorer. soon. ::help::
From the meaningless files...
Brown 4, Quinnipiac 1 (end of 2)

I don't think we keep breakaway stats.
My guess is that breakaways score at better than 50% (and better than penalty shots) because included among them are odd man rushes, whereas on the penalty shot the goalie neverr had to worry about a pass.
Aaaaaaand cowbell, loud and clear.:-)
SLU 0 Dartmouth 0, late in the first.
we used to have one. he's name was matt moulson.
1:49 left in the second and we are sh yet again. too many men.
We can't count. PP for Union at a dangerous time.
isn't that the second penalty for too many men on the ice this weekend? Schafer start counting your players!
end of 2nd. Union had a flurry at the end when Cam Abbott couldn't clear the zone. still 1-1.

BC also in freefall mode trailing UML 5-3 after 2.
That ending sequence was so typical of the seaon. We were unable to make what seemed to be a pretty easy clear to kill most of the period, but Union kept it in and put on their only sustained power play pressue of the game. A goal there would have been pretty devastating.
So far, I think Pegs has been outstanding, and no one has played poorly (even with his goof leading to the goal, Bitz has played well).

Tony Romano
Justin Milo
A great start to the period, leading to a PP. We are so due to put one in.
Nice shift by the kids, Barlow and Kennedy. Kennedy off the post. they do draw a pp. is this going to be good or bad?
topher scott just buries one in mayotte's bread basket.
moulson!! woohoo
YES!!! Matt Moulson trickles one underneath Mayotte.
Moulson!!!
Moulson!
PP?
I haven't seen Moulson have that much time to shoot all season. Last year he seemed to have one or two of those chances per game.
At last, MOULSON!!!
Moulson as power play ends ... waits, waits, waits, finally PP expires, shoots, and it trickles in. Maybe Matt's sensitive to his rep as only a PP goal scorer.
OK, just two more goals to go for MM to have consecutive years with a hat trick.
That's what we need. Give someone the time to take the puck in and makea creative move, not just a shot from the blueline.
Just after pp expiration. A Moulson even strength goal. :-)

Elliott gives up 3 more in the first 5 minutes of the third. He just got the hook. It's 5-2 Mankato.
Union now starting to pinch and emphasize the forecheck, but with no real opportunities to show for it. This is when the inexperience on D is a concern. We need to keep getting the puck deep and keep the strong cycle going.

Besides, real groupies know exactly how to meet hockey players without having to trumpet this desire on a message board. They are intrepid, devious creatures indeed.
