30 minutes to game time!
I'm off to the bar to see the game on a big TV and with (I hope!) excellent video feeds!
LET'S GO RED!!
No audio at 6:40. Hockey schedule page and CornellBigRed.com main page no longer show a "video" link, but it's still on the Some Access page.
Nothing at 6:51.
Audio up at 6:53
LGR!!!!
This from a buddy at Starr Rink--the Big Red just came out for the skate around minus hockey jerseys--wearing long sleeve shirts & pads---looks like equipment snafu...McLeod is driving up with the unis.....altho, of course, the team could outfit itself with sweaters from the Faithful up there to watch the game (!)
7:06 face off time because of the game being televised. The Cornell players socks and something else that I couldn't make out did not come with them and are en route and should arrive momentarily.
Excitement already!
LGR!!!
Mike Hall on ESPNU reports that the "sweaters have arrived" and everything is ok.

I can hear the TV announcer explaining it now: "The dog ate Cornell's uniforms."
Kindret on D tonight. No Sasha or O'Byrne. (According to Gametracker)
Anyone else not getting sound besides crowd noise? All I hear is NCFS...
The jerseys have arrived...
jerseys were left in ithaca and troopers went to get them
Is there supposed to be live video tonight?
I like the idea of kindret on D, if goals are hard to come by maybe we can re-unite the freshman line!
1st sell out of the night
big red gum on the ice
free pizzaaaaaaaaaaa
I like the idea of kindret on D, if goals are hard to come by maybe we can re-unite the freshman line!
Agreed. I like the Salmela-Kindret pairing and would love to see B-K-K again.
609 on direct tv
funny how web pages look on my axim...
'gate fans need to find a happy medium-normally they show up at 730....today at 1 for pizza.....
lgr
I also like this about Kindret: 6 Games, 2 Goals.
GOAL!!!! Chris Abbott (Krantz, Sawada) give my regard to davy
GOOOAAAALLL!!!
only 1:36 in
Goal
Abbott, from Krantz and Sawada
WOO HOO
1-0 Red
Chris Abbott has a goal. Glover gets dumped behind our net and is down. Yikes.
Good strategy by 'gate. If we don't have any defensemen left, there's a good chance we'll lose the game.
No call initially... then 5 and the game... Cornell on the PP.
5:00 game DQ for Hitting from Behind. CU PP.
major seems a bit extreme but it is a judgement call
That was Bogdanavich, the guy who got hurt last night and then immediately got a penalty. Nothing says hockey humor like getting thrown out on a retaliation. ;-)
Sawada just wide on perfect setup by Scott.
stupid penalty to take
And now Sawada whistled. Cornell announcers pretty much admit it was a dumb move by Ray. Referee now warns the Colgate crowd for throwing stuff on the ice.
that is a penalty...
Break up the Bobcats. QU up on SLU 2-1.
Holding on Cornell.
Brown 1 Dartmouth 0.
Princeton 2 Clarkson 0. That Princeton loss is starting to look not entirely horrible.
CU kill successful.
Cornell back on pp.
Princeton 2 Clarkson 0. That Princeton loss is starting to look not entirely horrible.
Either that or Clarkson is starting to look "entirely horrible"
Looked pretty tame to me. He just picked up his stick and Dekanich flopped...which Colgate seems to do a lot based on what we saw yesterday.
Nice block by John Smyth of Sawada shot, we're back to 5x5.

Princeton 2 Clarkson 0. That Princeton loss is starting to look not entirely horrible.
Either that or Clarkson is starting to look "entirely horrible"
Just saying, Princeton's last four league games:
Beat Colgate
Beat Cornell
Beat SLU
Leading Clarkson
Cornell pp #3 coming up.
Nice shorthand save by McKee after Colgate picks up a bad pass by Salmela. That sounded close.
Dakenich saves through a screen on a blast by Moulson. Bitz slashed but no call.
Colgate kills the advantage, but good movement by Cornell. Funny line by the CU announcer: after they ignore the "TV timeout" buzzer and just drop the puck, "Hockey 1, TV 0."
Apparently SLU is playing their walk-on goalie tonight against QU. There is much discussion on the ECAC score thread on USCHO. To wit, "well, we're probably hosed anyway..."
I thought SLU showed some dangerous strenches in the Lynah game. I'm shocked they've gone into freefall.
Have you ever heard the words "and his shot goes wide" more frequently used? Jeez.
I thought SLU showed some dangerous strenches in the Lynah game. I'm shocked they've gone into freefall.
I'm trying to decide if this would be better spelled stenches.... ::yark::
1-1
I don't remember that police siren from previous years.
Clark for "gate
Tied 1-1 @ 16:49
I remember the cheesy Vegas MC. "Let's get ready to rummmmmmmmmmmmble..." ::rolleyes::
OOT:
Brown 1 Dartmouth 0 (mid 2nd)
Princeton 2 Clarkson 0 (early 2nd)
Quinnipiac 2 St. Lawrence 1 (mid 2nd)
OOC:
AK-Fairbanks 1 Miami 1 (mid 1st)
good first period... Kindret didn't see the ice at all... hopefully we'll see him in the second alittle
cornell is 9-0-2 on the year when tied after one, so lets hope history repeats itself.
sawada is playing awesome...
44-36 Cornell bball over Harvard in the 2nd.
Any word on Sasha?
It looked like a pretty awkward fall - I hope he's not badly injured.
About 6 mins into 2nd.
Getting some pretty good shots
5 - 0 so far this period.
Colgate with the momentum recently.
Campener going off. Cornell pp #5.
Cornell goes on the PP.
DC ties up Brown, 1-1.
Gametracker says the penalty is on Salmela...HELP????
PP over.
Gate 5x5 killing Cornell pp's.
Pegs!!! 2-1 Assist Glover per gametracker
2-1 with 20 to play without the 2 best d-men on the team. What a great effort to this point
interesting second period... played the bend but not break defense for alot of it. colgate had alot og the momentum, then pegs came up huge... wow...
Dekanich is playing well, mckee is solid...
Pegoraro from Glover @ 18:40
WOO HOO
Brown back up by 1
Exciting finish ongoing in Newman if you have all access and want an intermission distraction- Harvard by 2 with 1:37 to go. H's top three scorers have fouled out.
ECAC:
Cornell 2 Colgate 1 (end 2)
Brown 2 Dartmouth 1 (mid 3)
Princeton 3 Clarkson 1 (mid 3)
Quinnipiac 2 St. Lawrence 1 (mid 3)
SLU has 16 third period shots on Qunnipiac with about 10 mins to play, but QU still leads 2-1.
Update: Dow forces a TO in a tie game with H holding for the last shot. Hartford lays it in with 2.4 to play for the lead. Harvard timeout.
Cornell wins 79-77 in bball.
Basketball: Cornell 79, Sucks 77, F
79-77 cornell comes back to win.
lol....even the colgate announcers thought the penalty was on them..,.
Gate pp.
Nice kill by Cornell. 5x5.
15:53
QU sweeps the North Country teams this weekend.
Matching minors, here. 4x4. Let's Go Abbotts!
Oh God. McKee saves after Tyler Burton steals the puck right in front. I'm comin' Elizabeth... this is the big one...
Back to 5x5.
12:30
Brom takes Darmouth into o.t...
McKee another huge save on Burton.
PU 4 Clarkson 2 late.
Game Tracker is down again...Keep those updates coming Trotsky, I am dieing here in New Hampshire
Each team with rushes -- Salmela nearly scores from the point. McKee a huge save on Wilson. Jeez -- both teams have seemingly abandoned defense with about 9 mins to go.
Good chances for both teams. 10:13 left.
Gate ices it. The Cornell D'men have been turning it over in front of David with alarming regularity.
Princeton 4 Clarkson 2, final.
The D-men have to be exhausted rolling only five all night. Keep it going guys.
LGR!!!
Chris Abbott finally clears after much Gate pressure. 8:45 in reg.
BREAK UP THE TIGERS!!!!!
I haven't heard Kindret's name once all night.
Colgate pp coming up. ::uhoh::
last 2 penalties = bs
Pegs to Cam on a sh rush, Cam hooked, no call.
Sounds like McKEe is standing on his head right now!
Three or four great saves in a row with "Gate" buzzing
Dekanich with a pretty good save for himself
Colgate goes on the PP with 8:19 (McCutcheon 2 for interference)
5x3 for gate
Delay of game on Glover.
7 something left.
not sure if that was a delay...
Delay penalty on Glover! 5x3!
3X5 This will be the test of the night.
Glover for closing his hand on the puck. 5 × 3.

They tried that, actually. Raheem asked for my jersey as soon as I got through the gate. Apparently they didn't get enough, though, as it was returned to me before warmups. Schafer wanted them all to look the same when they skated out.

If they had gone through with using the "Faithful's Jerseys", somehow I do not think the guys would be comparing notes on whose jersey they got. The pre-game chatter probably would not have included things like: "Hey cool, I got the trumpet player's jersey" or "Shoot, I wish I had gotten that red-haired guy's jersey". :-D
One snippet I heard on the broadcast was the the jerseys were getting a police escort for at least part of the Ithaca - Hamilton trip.

Well the point was the number, not that. :-P
True.
But when the previous year's jerseys go on sale there is always a flurry of posts about who got whose (or is it who's) jersey, why it is significant to them, and inquiries as to what person got the jersey/# they really wanted.
I just found it interesting that the equipment even thought of asking the fans for the jerseys in first place.

As much as I loathe that idea, it's still better than having to forfeit. I still think we should have taken up a collection of jerseys from the crowd of Cornell fans present last night. There would have been a few repeated numbers, but I could have told you personally that Chris Abbott's jersey would have been accurate. :-D
Pegoraro would have been screwed... I never see anyone with a number 15 jersey, so I think mine is the only one that makes it to most of the games...
Some needs to give the USCHO reporters a spelling guide . . .

The team forgetting stuff isn't actually that new. I can recall several times when the band had to load random forgotten equipment (sticks, dryers, helmets, food, Teeter's rings come to mind)for road trips because the team forgot it. Usually the team leaves early enough to notice before the band takes off, but for Colgate the time difference isn't as great. Of course I can't remember any time the jerseys were the forgotten item.
Devin -
Maybe true for road games - but I make every home game with the #15 Red jersey Pegs wore in the home exhibition game and then auctioned - name plate is for Steve Giuliani class of 1970 and all frozen four first teamer in 1970.
[Q]15 - Steve Giuliani (1967-70, W/D - 11-73-84) [/Q]
Also see a White 15 jersey at home games on town side regularly -
Go Pegs - Go BIG RED!
haha... "Schaffer"
Of course I can't remember any time the jerseys were the forgotten item.
My guess is that forgetting the jerseys was somehow a product of it being a home and home weekend. I'm guessing normally they just load up the jerseys on Friday afternoon before they leave and forget about it, so having to get different jerseys on saturday led to someone forgetting.

Of course I can't remember any time the jerseys were the forgotten item.
Yeah, I'm sure they have a very distinct procedure they follow on a regular road weekend. Being the home and home, and a short trip, its easy to not take the 'routine' so seriously and forget things. Still, it was pretty amusing.
Here's a question for people at the game... did you have any idea what was going on? Other than those of you who may've been asked for jerseys personally :). Or was it just some unspecified delay?

The man on the PA was a dick and made sure to announce it around 7:00 when Colgate was skating around waiting for the anthems, but there was no Cornell team. He said it with such tone that it was clear he was trying to goad the Colgate fans into yelling something derisive about it. Not that I blame them, who knows what we'd have done at Lynah if some other team forgot their jerseys?

I had my TiVo run out before the end of the 1st round NCAA game against tOSU. I was out of town for the weekend, so I didn't know the results of the tOSU or Minnesota games. When the recording ran out, Cornell was still losing by a goal. I had to cross my fingers and hit play on the Minnesota game to see if they were playing in it. There are few things stranger than maniacally cheering the opening frame of a telecast.

I was at the game, and Matt Moulson's dad came and asked my fiancee and me to borrow our (non-game worn) jerseys, but said they just needed them for the warm-up. It was the only shirt I had on, so I declined, since it wasn't critical, but of course my fiancee, who had on a shirt underneath the jersey, happily obliged. About five to ten minutes later her jersey was returned, with the explanation that they would not be using them. A few minutes later the team came out for the skate around, jersey-less. So anyone who was there for the skate around, (and I think that was just about everyone), and had at least half a brain would have known that the delay involved the jerseys. Of course the half a brain part explains why most of the Colgate fans didn't understand what was going on, but that's another topic entirely.
