I was talking to somebody from colgate last night who was standing by me, and he was telling me that what colgate is doing is offering the students free tickets and pizza if they go to the game. Because otherwise the students wouldn't come. That is sad if its true. Really sad.
Wouldn't be the first time...
That happened at brown this year. They also were letting anybody take the pizza in the rink until my friend and I walked up in cornell jersey's and then they said brown students only. Then 2 seconds later they let a couple 40 year olds take some. I kinda doubt it for colgate though, Cornell for them is like Sucks for us.
Well, they need something to throw at us, right?

Also, at said game, one lucky brown student was entered into a raffle to win a LOT of airfare....the # of miles escapes me, but needless to say if you were a Brown student at that game, you probably had a 1 in 200 chance of winning. ::rolleyes::
Probably not true. The announcers on TV said Colgate fans were waiting in line since late morning/early afternoon to get good seats to the game. They said the players came by bringing pizza to everyone, but I am pretty sure the fans would have shown up without the pizza. They were actually pretty loud during the game (as were ours of course, and almost all of ours wore red). Based on what I have seen watching a little bit of some of their other games on TV, tonight's good showing was definitely atypical.
how did the white-out they had planned look? Was it more/less successul than our "red out"?
From what I could see on TV, most of their fans were in white, but there were enough that weren't to break up the overall effect. Kudos to our fans. It looked like almost every one of them wore red. The close-ups of our section were great! I'll be in red at Clarkson and SLU(t). I'll make sure the other people in my group are too. I hope the same is true for everyone else going.
it looked like they gave out/sold shirts to students which said something like:
"ivy" on the front and
"doesn't matter on the ice. colgate hockey" on the back

Sounds like an inferiority complex to me. B-]
The TV announcers said the shirts read something like that.

My thought exactly.

At least it made more sense than the shirts colgate fans wore to Lynah a few years back that read something like 'the real world. cornell-colgate .' Anyone remember those?

The shirts this year said IVY on the front and "It doesn't matter on the ice" on the reverse.
Have to like the admission that it matters off the ice :-P

At this point, I feel the need to point out this beauty of a picture from two years ago:

The "white out" sucked from on TV. They did a pan of the townies at least it at most 1 in 7 or 8 had white shirts.

Kinda like chanting "safety school" at Sucks?

No, thats just funny :)... tongue-in-cheek if you will
...and just for the hell of it...
Beeeej
Sorry, i think nyiballs is exactly right. Chanting safety school at Harvard (sucks) has no upside. It isn't true. I might want to disown my children if they go there, but that doesn't make it a safety school. Our saying it makes us seem insecure, not funny.
Do we have to get into this again?
Do we have to get into this again?
Wait, you're suggesting that online hockey message boards shouldn't have many pointless, lame arguments that occur annually? Brilliant! :-)
I think you could just take the threads that were happening on the USCHO message board in 1997, swap around the names of the schools and players, turn up the idiot volume, and get what we have today.

Except in 1997 it was on Hockey-L, right? At least USCHO doesn't have Larry Winer.
