Cornell going on kill.

Good news: it could be 5-0 already.
Bad news: it isn't.

CU shot lead of 7-1, and it's probably even more imbalanced than that.  But they can't let up.

Title: TV feed and announcers
Post by: billhoward on January 27, 2006, 07:28:22 PM
Video feed sucks again. Even when it's on. And they need a taller tripod. Also, what's that shipping case in the way every time the camera pans to the west end goal?

The announcers are at their best during commercials: "Brown in no way is keeping up with Cornell." Why don't they say it live? What do they think the station is paying them good money for - platitudes? (OK, maybe not such good money. But still.)

I miss last week's color man. He spoke his mind, right or wrong.

hopefully, they can make some goals happen tonight....

This is really getting ugly.  the game seemed to be in complete control until someone took a "retaliation" penalty and then shortly after it became a 5x3.  Dumb penalties will kill you in a game you should win, and this is beginning to resemble the Union fiasco.

Title: Elizabeth Kubler Ross on Cornell hockey
Post by: billhoward on January 27, 2006, 08:30:40 PM
As Brown goes from down 1-0 to up 3-1, Elizabeth Kubler Ross' five stages of dying coming to mind as it might translate to Cornell hockey:

1. Oh, bleep, there goes McKee's shutout, and this is about the best chance he's got as the season winds down.
2. Brown goes ahead. We're in a bit of trouble.
3. oh, double bleep, Brown's ahead by two goals. And the game isn't going to help the team and goalie GAA.
4. Is this Dartmouth all over again? Are we about to get blown out ... in our home rink?
Fortunately, it didn't get to stage five (acceptance of our fate) ... but, sheesh. We're the fifth-ranked, if not fifth-best, college hockey team in America.

Nice:-)  I figured after we got Scrivens that we'd be done looking at Theissen.  Both Scrivens and Theissen are 86' birthdays and I find it hard to believe that either one of them would agree to come in 2007.  Would Schafer have 4 goalies on the roster next year?

I'm actually wondering if this says more about Dan DiLeo than anything else.  I believe he has dressed for one single game all year, in a game when Chabot didn't dress (I guess he was sick).  I thought I heard DiLeo was injured at the beginning of the season, but I have to believe that's been rectified by now.  If Schafer isn't seeing fit to dress him as a secondary backup for games, I have to wonder if DiLeo actually has a future with the team.  Is there something I'm missing here?

Would Schafer have 4 goalies on the roster next year?
I'm actually wondering if this says more about Dan DiLeo than anything else.  I believe he has dressed for one single game all year, in a game when Chabot didn't dress (I guess he was sick).  I thought I heard DiLeo was injured at the beginning of the season, but I have to believe that's been rectified by now.  If Schafer isn't seeing fit to dress him as a secondary backup for games, I have to wonder if DiLeo actually has a future with the team.  Is there something I'm missing here?
You brought up what I was hinting at.  Like I said earlier, I can't believe McKee will be anywhere other than Ithaca next season.  I guess we'll wait and see what happens with Theissen.  If he doesn't choose Cornell this could all be a moot point.

We all hope David McKee stays all four years. However, he is no spring chicken. Isn't he the same age as David LeNeveu, gave or take a couple months? Someone completing college at 24 or 25 doesn't have as many pro years looking him in the face as, say, Sidney Crosbie.

Are there other influences? His family is comfortable, so it's not as if David needs to turn pro a year early to pay back his tuition loans. And OTOH, he is not as dependent as some of us on our Cornell degrees to earn a living.

The entire Mckee family - not just David - has been great for Cornell hockey. His father attends more games than Mike Teeter (this year - not lifetime - that's a record that won't be beaten).

Arthur's going to give it a shot. :-)

I've seen Pokulok's father at every game this season I've attended (including road games).  I hope this bodes well for Sasha's prospects of returning next season.

just a guess, but we there a rule change about dressing 2 goalies instead of 3? everyone used to dress three, now they only dress two, anyone know anything about this?

On the other hand, the average goaltender takes many more years to develop than a skater, and many hit their NHL stride at 29-30 years old.

A few of our opponents this season have dressed three goalies for the game, or so collegehockeystats says.  So I'm guessing it's not a rule change.

I believe McKee just turned 21, so age shouldn't be a factor if he stays for his final year.

Actually, he just turned 22 this past November.

My bad, I could have sworn I was at Dunbars the night he turned 21 this semester - either that or the semesters are starting to run together :-P

Arthur's going to give it a shot. :-)
Considering that Teeter goes to all home and away, that record is not likely to be beaten.
