McKee: shut out #17.
Good early effort by Barlow; Russell nearly leaves the rebound in front for Kennedy.
Carefoot nearly feeds Moulson; deflected aside. Matt still has 0 even strength non-empty net goals.
Now he feeds Mitch and Carefoot scores. 1-0, Big Red.
SUHWEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!
LGR!!!!!
Glover gets another one after relentless pressure in the QU end. 2-0 just 6:13 in.
QU takes a timeout to catch their breath. Russell still in net.
Shots already 6-4 after 8 minutes. Not much D so far.
Early scoring:
1 04:57 Cor Carefoot 3 (Moulson 10)
1 06:13 Cor Glover 2 (O'Byrne 4)
Moulson fianlly gets that elusive no frills even strength goal:
1 16:14 Cor Moulson 12 (Bitz 11)
Looks like I'm the only grumpy old man who doesn't like IRC. Speed crazy kids...
O'Byrne was the intermission guest, and he was very exhuberant. I don't think he was whistled during the entire interview.
QU subs in third string sieve Josh Siembida for Wes Russell as we go to the second period.
Krantz and Scott get late assists on the first 2 goals.
The Q announcers are being pretty complimentary. "It's no mistake they are the 7th ranked team." Nice to see them not being negative.
You're not the only one...I've been at work and can't really getting away with chatting or listening/watching online. I appreciate these updates! However, I'm now on my way out so I won't need more updates until ~2100 PST.
Shots are way down in the second; looks like the Iron Curtain has once again descended across the Cornell blue line.
The Red kill a penalty with no effort. Still 3-zip.
Barlow and Kennedy another nice try, turned away. Sounds like these guys are close to clicking.
Union up on Clarkson 3-0.
Carefoot sends Cam in on a breakaway and just misses him.. seconds later, Cam sends Carefoot in on a breakaway, and it's 4-0 Cornell.
Red kill another pp, effortlessly. Grading tonight:
even strength, A
penalty kill, A
power play, D
Bitz shoots a cannon. 5-0 CU. :-D
Goal by Bitz
2 19:40 Cor Bitz 3 (Cam Abbott 7, Gleed 2)
Man, this is quite the game.
when was our last game with 5 even strength goals? thats more than the last 3-4 games combined..
According to my records...
10/29/04, 7-1 vs Army (5 es, 1 pp, 1sh)
For 6+
11/15/02, 8-0 vs Vermont (6 es, 2 pp)
Man, this is quite the game.
For us, at least. No offense to the Fighting Deerticks, but this is what we need to do to the likes of Quinnipiac. But let's save a few goals for Princeton.
Speaking of...
through 2 periods: Princeton 4 Colgate 2. ::uhoh::
And add a shorthanded goal. :-P Didn't catch the name.
McCutcheon Shorthanded!!!!! 6-0
McCutcheon
Mark McCutcheon, his 2nd shg of the year, and his 5th goal of the year after having zero through his first two season. Not to spoil anything, but this guy is my odds-on favorite for the TBRW "Career Improvement" Award. He's come out of tall-thin-no-body nowhere to become this year's Iggulden. Incredible.
Cornell will need to kill off a 5x3 coming up to hold McKee's shut out. D-fence.
One CU player back. 5x4. SOG are 19-19.
Cornell kills off the 5x3 and is 6x6 on pk with under 9 mins to go in the game.
Final, in hoops:
Penn 84 Cornell 44
< 3 mins.
< 1 min.
Q takes a penalty, so Cornell ought to be able to preserve McKee's 17th shutout.
CU 6-0 FINAL!!! LGR

Between McCutcheon and Carefoot, I really like having one SH threat on each PK unit.

Hard to overstate how much this particular squad, especially the "middies" (So-Jr), have improved over the course of the season, and in surprising ways. Tightening up the system and taking pressure off the G while also opening up the offense... hey now, I thought only the diamond-encrusted WCHA teams could do that! ::laugh::
This is starting to rival the 95-96 team, as a pleasant surprise. Maybe McKee's soft start was a blessing in disguise, since the rest of the team has responded so well.
Of course, "you're never as good as you look when you win," and P.U. played a great game against 'Gate tonight. A 4-point road weekend would go a long way towards re-establishing Cornell as the premier ECAC program.
1 16:14 Cor Moulson 12 (Bitz 11)
I'm checking in late and didn't listen to the game, so I just need to make sure: shouldn't this have said "PP" or "EN"?
Nope.
Nope.
Hi, remember how you get complaints sometimes that you neither reply to the message nor quote it, so that those of us who prefer threaded view have no idea what the hell you're talking about? Well, this is one of those times. :-P
No, the Moulson goal has neither a pp nor an en.
