End of first period 0-0
1:37 (2nd) Abbott (unassisted) SHG
6:43 (2nd)Williams (Stapleton, Cascalenda)
The announcers just said that next year the 4 teams will be:
Cornell, Maine, Western Michigan, and UNH.
Familiar friends eh
Also - I tried to buy the game - and instead it gave me the Maine-Northeastern game. (where Northeastern is leading 2-1 after 2). I hope I dont have to dish out another 8 bucks.
LGR
That sounds like an excellent field for next year. Too bad we couldn't get a top WCHA team instead of UNH though.
This is a big game tonight, should be fun.
Coulda really used the game against a Top 10 team to boost RPI, KRACH, etc...
On the other hand - even if at the end of the year it would have caused us to have a higher PWR, it doesnt mean teh committee wouldnt screw us again. lol
I just hope we can get a win today. I'm worried about WCHA speed killing us, especially after UMD apparently beat Maine handily yesterday.
All links except for the Webcast hae been removed from the Cornell site for tonight's game. I went to the UMD site and found a link supposedly for their radio; at the moment, two drunks are on -- I guess the FCC is asleep.
The audio link for tonight's game seems to have disappeared. Only a "webcast" link to the fee video at B2.
looks like the game audio is available under the 'archived' tab in audio/video. it's still listed as against TBD
Hopefully this link works:
http://allaccess.cstv.com/media/school_epg.jsp?sid=700&ts=0&ngSportId=all&ngDates=all&gState=1&gDates=all&gSportId=all&gMediaType=all
I'm going to be watching Rangers vs. Isles while listening to cornell. I managed to find an audio link on the UMD website which may have the game.
http://www.warpradio.com/popTuner.asp?id=5230
The free net audio link to KDAL looks like it is working. Pregame on now, game in 20 minutes.
Pregame on All-Access is also up. Interview with the UMD coach coming up.
Ah, the announcers are indeed morons. This should be good.
These announcers are... wow.
Let's just say they have talked repeatedly about how overrated Cornell is, and has been for the past ten years.
Ahhh, that's better... All-Access is working. In five minutes, the UMD announcers managed to say at least 12 insipid things. Glad to be rid of them.
Hopefully cornell plays better than the rangers are playing tonight
Let's Go Islanders! :-D
WOW
Announcers on KDAL make scathing comments about how Cornell always seems to be in the top 10, talked about, but undeserving. They said Yale is horrible and Cornell barely managed to defeat them, while Minnesota-Diluth slaughtered them (only common opponent).
Hopefully Cornell will win.
The other enjoyable thing was hearing that UMD is "always in the top ten." ::laugh::
These announcers are... wow.

Ahh yes. For the past few months, I've been jumping around western broadcasts following CU games. I remember these guys. Pretty prototypical for radio guys for Minnesota schools.
Meh, we should be grateful. For every fool who spews this stuff all year, that's one more chance for a player (somewhat likely) or coach (highly unlikely) to be overconfident. So by all means, we suck, we suck... you are getting sleeeeeeeeeepy.... :-D
not working, says 10 minutes before game click, its 7 and still not giving me a page to sign up.
But dont forget - Yale is a pretty bad team
and Yes - we almost lost to them.
And the only reason we are in teh top 10 becasue there isnt that many teams better than an 'eh' team like us. Not Maine, not UNH, not CC (like in usual years).
granted that i didnt hear the webcast
BTW, all updates are appreciated; it's 6am Thurs morning where I am (got up early for the game), but I just realized the computers in the hotel business center don't have speakers so....
I am worried about having CCHA referees.
"If they can win this game, which I believe they will and should." Quote from the announcer. At least, I think it was the announcer, doubt it was the coach.
Let's Go Islanders! :-D
All tied up :-P
I agree that Cornell is generally overrated in the polls, but it makes me hungrier for Cornell to win.
Siouxsports.com has Cornell Krach rated #10 entering today...
Minnesota-Diluth #28.
Didn't the game just begin? :)
Kyle
Seriously, this announcer not only seems terribly western-biased, he is also ignorant of anything eastern. Colgate? Come on, moron: wake up.
lol - the b2now announcer said "UM-Duluth skating out of the WCHA and Cornell skating out of the ECHA with Doug McKee in goal"
ugh
Game sounds very uneven, choppy, and slow so far.
4 ON 4 skating - very early on
now 4-3. UMD guy off for roughing
Powerplay upcoming...
4x4, Cam Abbott (think it was Cam) off for shooting after the whistle (he didn't hear it), someone on UMD off for hitting him after the shot. Dumb penalties, really.
CU pp coming up.
Some nice shots, but back to 5x5
Moulson gone for slashing
There's no All-Access radio for this game??
You are like a minute and a half ahead of me. The penalty just started
Even the announcers think that call was bad. Since when does Moulson ever get penalties?
Moulson outta the box, back to 5x5.
Killed
Jordan, go to the archive page -- there is All-Access.
Thank you. I don't think I would have found that on my own.
Thanks, got it.
Barlow hauled down on a partial break, no call.
CU Penalty... Davenport...High Sticking
I'm going to be watching Rangers vs. Isles while listening to cornell. I managed to find an audio link on the UMD website which may have the game.
http://www.warpradio.com/popTuner.asp?id=5230
I'm doing the same thing. All I can say that trying to pay attention to both games and read both game threads is alot of work.
Second post of the period for tUMD, and the Red take another penalty.
tUMD penalty... Curry... 4x4 for 15 seconds
That's so funny. :) Too bad there aren't enough Cornell fans there to really get on the goalie's case...
Kyle
1:20 CU PP comin up
right after the UMD goalie fell on his a$$
very funny if u saw that
announcer said "this championship game between umd and colgate"
"no respect, no respect" rodney
CU Powerplay... damn radio went to a commercial before they announced what it was though
Great flurry by Red on delayed penalty, pp #4 coming up.
BTW, we should respect the people who are behind and not spoil goals -- let whoever is taking up the rear post them. Erica, maybe.
Apparently the ccha is on the east coast now. "I hear that a lot about these east coast officials"
agreed... or we could just wait a minute or two...
Announcer = "Wonder if they know people pay to watch the game and not them."
Color = "That's what you get with East Coast officials"
East coast officials?
What a bunch of putz's!
:-P
CU penalty...
Even these announcers (who aren't very good) called shennanigans on that one. Damn ref.
There you go, they aren't homers!!!!!::rolleyes::
Big shorthanded chance from cam, no goal
another CU penalty... tUMD poked it in after the whistle... Glover got the penalty... 5 Minute Major...
Is it still in the first? When did it actually start?
5x3 UMD PP coming up
too many powerplays
dumb east coast refs
still in the first... game started at 7:30
Well, these guys are from Duluth, so maybe they meant the east coast of Lake Michigan...
Glover gone with a misconduct
Oh boy, more penalty trouble, like last night...
I can;'t believe we were just hearing the jeopardy music during a hockey game...
5 min major (and misconduct) for checking from behind.
east coast refs
Wait, didn't we get an unsportsmanlike conduct for a shot after the whistle? They should, too.
Really, neither should have been penalties, but...
Anyway, damn. Was that a fair major?
Was there a free audo online?
kill schaefer kill kill schaefer kill
he was arguing with the refs like a minute and a half into the break
The BC game last year was a big penalty fest, too, wasn't it? Who reffed last year? By the way, interview w/McKee coming up after this commercial on the audio, for those of you watching the video.
Under archives. See post by pfibiger towards top of thread.
Apparetly the play-by-play is none other than USCHO's Bruce Ciskie.
Well, these guys are from Duluth, so maybe they meant the east coast of Lake Michigan...
At the 1997 regional, when the CU Pep Band partied with the UMinn pep band, we heard their version of the altered Michigan fight song. They used the line "The cesspool of the East!" instead of "The cesspool of the West!" So I think it's pretty common for WCHA schools to think of Michigan (and the CCHA) as "East Coast."
Whats's the freaking score!?
Never mind 0-0
Second period will feature about 4 minutes of UMD power play due to the 5 min major given to Glover
plenty of time to stuff in some shorties...
shots... UMD has 5... cornell has... jason didn't say it...
Honestly, the same was true for me probably before heading to Ithaca last year...Good to hear they shared "The Victors" with you guys, I don't think I have ever heard the "correct" lyrics to that fight song.
Cam Abbott! Shorthanded!
1-0 Cornell... Cam Abbott (unassisted)
Cam with a shorty on a breakaway 1-0 Cornell
2 01:37 Cor sh Cam Abbott 1 (unassisted)
LEARN THE G*DDAMN TEAM'S NAME, SHITHEAD!
Sorry for the outburst, but I don't think I know anyone this stupid!
Kyle
tUMD penalty... Curry... Hooking
lol - this guy obviously doesnt know college hockey
he also said the USHCO poll in the intermission
LETS GO COLGATE LETS GO COLGATE (ERM)
how did the 2 teams compare in the 1st? could you tell through the penalties? who's winning the fughts along the boards? who's faster?
Pegs draws a penalty. Nice job, Red.
Man, Dpperk, I'm about a minute ahead of the rest of the board... and you're a minute ahead of me. :-D Are you time taveling or something?
Just listening to WHCU in dryden NY... and not having a life
So, to finish the announcer's thought, I guess UMD didn't get to see how bad Cornell must have been in the first game yesterday. ::screwy::
Is anyone else sick and tired of hearing about how talented UMD is? Good lord...
Kyle
B2NOW is as fast as dpperk too btw
Cornell now ahead on shots, due to those East Coast shot counters...
LEARN THE G*DDAMN TEAM'S NAME, SHITHEAD!

Kyle
Well, Colgate was asked to be Cornell, but they turned it down. ;-)
Also, very prophetic on the SHG prediction, dpperk29.
tUMD Goal... Williams 8 (no assists yet)
I try my best...
The UMD fight song makes me think, "the new Oldsmobiles are in early this year..."
1-1
2 06:43 UMD Williams (Cascalenda)
BTW... if by posting fast I am ruining it for anyone... let me know and I'll stop/slow down
This Curry guy seems to be sort of like O'byrne last year.
LOL.
Maybe it's just me, but I think the ability to remember the opposing team's name should be a requirement for announcing...
Kyle
tUMD Penalty... Mason for tripping
Dp, slow it down by like a minute :-)
dam - now you are ahead - whatcha doin man lol
gotcha
NYI 2 NYR 2, after 2.
Back to even strength
GO NEW YORK!!
GO NEW YORK!!
You mean the Rangers right? ;-)

GO NEW YORK!!
Must be: the Islanders have no fans. :)
Kyle
either/or
I'm a College hockey fan... and I have bigger things to worry about tonight than two sub-par NHL teams boxing eachother
Chris ABbott with a great shot (and UMD with a great save) and now his stick broke. LGR
Sub-par? C'mon, the Rangers have been pretty decent this year. he Islanders on the other hand...
give them time... they'll screw up eventually
cmon - who cares about the rangers and the islanders.
they both suck (and take it to a dif thread)
Sub-par? C'mon, the Rangers have been pretty decent this year. he Islanders on the other hand...
http://www.nhl.com/standings/20052006/league_standings.html
The rangers are 9 and the isles are 20 out of 30 teams.
CU penalty... Barlow Goalie Interference
pp coming up for... who?
Nice to have these shorty threats...
Now....
Who remembers the final game last year with BC and the CRAZY number of penalties
are these the same refs UGH
I would consider 9 out of 30 to be pretty decen. Anyway, back on topic...
Shh... lightning never strikes twice... be careful... that might be woofing...
Krantz just rang the crossbar like a church bell...
well, now your only 30 seconds ahead;-)
1-1 at the end of 2...
They are being very not-homer now, they've called 4 or 5 things that should've been called on duluth but the ref seems to have put his whistle away.
really? hmmm... maybe I should do more multi-tasking...
These refs are awful. Both sides seem to be hacking at each other, but they haven't called anything this period. After a ton of penalties in the first.
Okay, this ref, I guess. Shows how much I know about hockey.
Each lightning strike is actually a set of repeated strikes in the same place...
Cam's goal was the prettiest of the season...what a move!
sorry... I'm only a high school kid... not a cornell grad... but thanks for that little tidbit of info
Quote of the day from the B2 Sports announcers... "Both these teams are laying it out tonight--if you wanted to see some great college hockey, you should've been watching B2 Sports tonight--and you actually are!"
And this announcer really needs to shut up about Colgate. Even in the intermission interview with the Maine coach (why?) he called us Colgate and then corrected himself.
And the rangers go up 4-2...sorry to those of you that don't care
3rd period underway
Yeah, where are those five guys with trumpets? :-P
Sieve... you suck... oh wait... I'm not at lynah and there is no band... :(
16:28 in regulation.
Salmela and Seminoff just helped the equipment manager to the locker room... this just makes me wonder what's wrong...
From the audio, it sounds like this game is very, very slow. Any impressions from those who are watching?
Salmela and Seminoff just helped the equipment manager to the locker room... this just makes me wonder what's wrong...
Wait, were they booted or was he/she hurt?
Who won the early game?
Equipment Manager carries a skate onto ice... hands it off to McCutcheon... who then hands it over to moulson... this is the most exciting thing I have heard all night
tUMD Penalty... Facoff in the cornell zone...
13:42...
tUMD Penalty... Facoff in the cornell zone...
Still haven't heard that
edit: I must have heard them wrong earlier... but I guess I am predicting the future tonight... tUMD penalty...
Good god, now I'm about *3* minutes behind...
Maine 4-2, at least according to the Duluth announce team (which is far superior to the Minnesota one...).
cornell power play woohooo
LGR
Did I hear them right that they go to shootout if there's no score after five minutes of overtime? I'm not looking forward to that if it happens....
LOL... OK, never mind.
don't worry... it was a false alarm when I first posted it... maybe I should try the false alarms more often... maybe they will get a major called on them...
12:00...
yeah, but it's still recorded as a tie.
Just announce a goal. :-D
CU Penalty... Davenport... tripping...
cornell going on the powerplay... tUMD penalty for tripping... somename I can't spell
both teams combined are 0-12 on the powerplay...
Did I hear them right that they go to shootout if there's no score after five minutes of overtime? I'm not looking forward to that if it happens....
I think they implemented that the year after Cornell and Northern played two overtimes in the semis. The '03 final almost went to a shootout before Hornby won it.
These guys complain about every penalty call, no matter who it is on. Latest bitch: Pegoraro with the dive, still it will mean a CU penalty. (And at least they admit that the UMD guy had malice in his heart.)
Cornell currently on the PP after a PK. (Don't know the time.)
CU penalty... Moulson... Hooking
Penalty on CU.
Chris Abbott a nice clear.
Penalty on Moulson. 4x4 for 30 seconds, then a UMD PP.
time?
6:22...
7:54 left
~6 minutes remaining.
The Abbotts have been everywhere tonight.
0x14 combined now.
that sure what it sounds like... time for chris and cam to team up for a game winner...
4:53...
UMD PP over.
3:28...
Jason says Pegs has been wonderful on faceoffs...
Jason says Pegs has been wonderful on faceoffs...
The UMD guys said he was 5/10 and scott was 5/7 after the first 2 periods
they're homers... believe jason...
2:07...
1:24...
anyone starting there shootouts lineups yet?
1:06...
1:06 left. Face off coming in front of McKee.
time for 5 minutes of sudden death...
Moulson, abbott, abbott, mccutcheon, barlow would be mine
end of 3rd
from a KRACH perspective we really need a win rather than a tie
Going to OT. "Free hockey" says the UMD dude. I like that expression.
Moulson... Abbott... Abbott... Pegoraro... Scott
jeez OT
i hate CU in OT
paging Mr. Hornby. Is Greg Hornby in the building?
drat.
In the event of a shootout, both teams officially get the tie right? I was under the impression that the shootout was just for the fans and to officially declare a tourney winner, but for the purpose of RPI and PWR, it was a tie.
Mine would be: Moulson, Pegs, Cam, Krantz, Carefoot
the refs want to zamboni the ice
dumbasses
you've got to be kidding me...
Yes, if its a 5 minute OT and still tied, it is officially scored as a tie
I know they Zamboni the center stripe in the minors prior to the shootout. What do they do in the NHL?
I know they Zamboni the center stripe in the minors prior to the shootout. What do they do in the NHL?
I think they brush it, but don't put water down
Ya know, tUMD really needs the win rather than a tie, too. Maybe we'll see dual goalie pulls? (Yeah, I know, never happen...)
3:51 in the o.t...
3:30 left.
tUMD got a flury on Mckee...
3:10...
Two great saves by McKee
Thank you Jesus H. Krantz... nice clear.
time for a Cornell hero...
ahhhh
1:12...
Sounds like McKee is standing on his head in OT.
CU timeout... faceoff will be in tUMD zone... :54
Less than one minute left, sounds like McC missed a great opportunity.
it bounced over his stick bad ice (since they didnt zamboni LOL)
OT ends in a tie... shootout time...
Tie game. Heading to a meaningless shootout (unless you care about being the official winner of the tournament).
well, I'd rather win the shootout than loose it, but yeah. it's meaningless.
C'mon, this is a lot more important than the coveted "Niagara Cup":-D
1-0 CU on the shootout... moulson
2-1 CU... carefoot put it in...
stop it - youre too fast lol
More NCFS!
2-2 in the shootout...
Cam Abbott puts it in... 3-2 final in the shootout...
We Win
Shootout Cornell! McKee makes 3 saves and Abbott gets the game winner.
I know it's meaningless, but I do feel slightly better now.
Scha-weet!
SHOOTOUT:
tUMD v. McKee:
0 Gergen
1 Raymond
0 Stapleton
1 Carroll
0 McKnight
Cornell v. Reichmuth:
1 Moulson
1 Carefoot
0 O'Byrne
0 Pegoraro
1 Cam Abbott
lol - the UMD goalie almost whacked the living sheeeet out of the official after the last goal went in
Well so much for meaningless. Did anyone watching not yell when Cam scored? :-)
Breaking the stick on the crossbar would get a game DQ in my league. :)
Cheers,
Kyle
And coach putting O'Byrne in on the shootout puts to rest what he thinks of him.
Nice! McKee gets the MVP of the tournament.
Nice! McKee gets the MVP of the tournament.
... but not all-tournament goaltender, which went to Reichmuth. Weird.

Nice! McKee gets the MVP of the tournament.
... but not all-tournament goaltender, which went to Reichmuth. Weird.
That's spreading the wealth -- common in tournies. Still dumb, though.
I really would have liked Scott in on the shootout, instead of O'byrne or carefoot. I like all three a lot, but I think Scott's the best on shootouts.
Then again, Carefoot scored, so who knows.
So in the thread title, does "SO" stand for "shootout" or "sort of"? ;)
Not to mention, how do you decide which team you like least when you can't stand any New York professional teams?
The UMD fight song makes me think, "the new Oldsmobiles are in early this year..."
Who knows what fight song they picked given that they insist on playing NCFS for us. I could have sworn "In Heaven There is No Beer" was tUMD's goal song.
I know its blasphemy and I probably already said it last year, but I prefer the New Cornell Fight Song over Davy. [ducking for cover]
Moved to the post-game thread. Sorry, didn't see it before.
