Title: (not so) burning questions
Post by: Jacob '06 on December 08, 2005, 02:39:32 AM
In honor of the burning questions we see at the end of Ari's column every week, I have come up with the idea of filling our void of cornell hockey for the next few weeks with some not so burning questions. Feel free to add yours to the list or answer any that are asked. I'll start us off:

1. Why did Dave mix and match his costumes when he wore them? I mean what is up with a white tux, red wig, and carrying a sherrif's badge as an accessory?

2. What is up with the ice at Lynah this year? Pucks are skipping over peoples sticks everywhere.

3. Doesn't anybody else think the Niagara Purple Eagles are offensive to America? Our national bird is not purple!

Knock yourselves out.

4. Does Coach's lasik surgery affect his "vision" for the team's defense, and thus our GAA?

5. When will Bill Howard hit his 2,000th post?

6. When will Krantz commit his 1000th turnover of the season?

7. Could Princeton beat the Chapter House team in the Ithaca Adult Hockey Association?

8.  Does Bill Howard care as much about his post count as his word count? ;-)

9.  Is there a way to track post count here?

10.  Will we ever see a return of the late 60's scoring?

Just click on the poster's name and it will bring you to their profile page, which shows post count.

11. Will the Lynah expansion cause Cornell to become a perennial powerhouse? [/uscho]
(does this logic work for expansions or only new arenas? :-P)

12. Was Cornell really kicked out of the Ivy League in 1968 or was this a "May Fool's Joke"?
(from the Cornell Sun Digital archives, May 3, 1968, page 1, "Red Stars May Leave")

13. Should Bill Howard care what any of you think? ;-)

14. (Begging the pardon of the woofing gods, in advance.)  If the system suddenly "clicks" and we roar through the second half of the season, will our less-than-stellar performance in the 1st half of the season result in our getting sent to a western regional?

15. Will I be standing outside the fieldhouse freezing my ass off at 5:00 on 1/21?  Or will I manage to find tickets in advance?  ::help::

16. Will CSTV fix the low bitrate stream before the next home game? ::bang::

I'm confused... was April Fools Day previously May 3rd? (contradiction in terms intentional)

17. And can he tell us whether he does in less than 2000 words? ;-)

It's not a woof because you said "if" and not "when".

Huh...

[Q]Murray, who needs to complete one course to earn his degree from Cornell's school of hotel administration, made business connections there as well. He and two friends developed the Uber Tap, a device that uses a foot pump to draw beer from a keg more efficiently.[/Q]

Guess I can't blame him. And nice to see the Uber Tap mentioned again ;)

Maybe I didn't understand, but are you confused about what I wrote or about the article itself (ie date, etc)?

I'm not so sure... I think the woofing gods also look unkindly upon far-too-ridiculous speculation even when it's clear that it's speculation, e.g., Princeton fans even thinking about the possibility of going to the Frozen Four this year.  It's not clear to me where the line is drawn.

Cheers,
Kyle

I agree it might be worrisome if you were serious and really expected it to come to pass, even though you used "if".  The Woofing Gods are all knowing.  In the same way that they are not fooled by anti-woofing, they know that you are "asking" about something that you consider "far-too-ridiculuous".

from a Cornell Sun point of view, yes.  If I remember correctly, The Sun used to do two "joke" issues a year, on the Fridays before Fall Weekend (maybe not in all years as I couldn't find the Fall '67 one in the archives) and Spring Weekend, which were the big party weekends on campus for the fraternities.

My favorite was Spring of '67 with an article entitled something like "Dryden to leave school and play for Canadiens."  Back then, there were almost no college hockey players in the pros.  The article included a petition urging Dryden to stay in school, with signatures including Rogatien Vachon, who Dryden would actually win the goalie job from several years later.

BIG KID DESERTS CORNELL,
SIGNS PACT WITH CANUCKS

That means the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver didn't have a team yet.

The front page was:

COPS NAB TOPS
  IN POT PLOT

They had a picture of Perkins and VP's "leaving city jail" for pot crimes. Oh, those were the days.
