I read the FAQ, and I tried e-mailing Reynolds, but I didn't get a response. So, has this information changed? Please, tell me how to get a jersey, I'm desperate.
[Q]I'm desperate.[/q]
::rolleyes::
Dude, calm down: they will come along. I spent a combined total of 3 years waiting for availability before getting the two I have. If Bill doesn't respond, that probably means he doesn't have any at the moment.
In the meantime, you can always get one of the better replicas; it's not like it will go to waste after you get a real jersey: just stick it in a window or something.
Cheers,
Kyle
Your best bet, if you're in town, is to go down to Teagle and talk to Bill in person. I didn't have much luck with e-mail either last year.

I concur.
I did not get a response either, and I am looking for a real Jersey also. I want to fram it and put it in my sports room.
Maybe my experience with Bill over email is an outlier: he's generally responded quickly when he has some, but whenever I had to badger him, it meant there was nothing available.
But I concur with Pete and FR: it can't hurt to go see him if you're on campus. If I were on campus at the time I was looking, that's what I would have done anyway, despite the rather brisk walk at this time of year. :)
Cheers,
Kyle
Seeing as I live halfway across the country there's little chance for me to get to Teagle. I'd gladly pay $20 (plus direct expenses of course) to someone if they would be willing to pick up a jersey and mail it to me. If anyone can/will help, please email or elynah-private-message me.

Babies are expensive. How much are you offering?
I received this email this morning:
[q]To Whom It May Concern:,
The jerseys are now available from last year. The cost is $125.00.
White #'s available 1,3,5,7,9,12,16,17,18,19,20,23,26,27,30
Red #'s available 1,2,3,5,6,7,9,10,11,12,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,23,24,26,27,28,29,30
You get them from me in person at the Teagle Hall issue room or we can send it to you by mail. Cash or Checks made out to Cornell University.
Include your phone number. Let me know as soon as possible if you are still interested and what number you would be interested in.
Thanks,
Bill

And I reserved #26 in red. Little Killer is going to just die come Christmas morning (hope she's not reading this ;-) )
I got #1 in red, so I have a goalie jersey to fit over my pads. Just painted my white helmet red this weekend, too. Too bad I can't play half as well as Chabot or anyone else that has worn the number for real. :-)

I feel like a real lame-o playing hockey in my Cornell jerseys, because I could play 8 hours per day, every day for the next 40 years and not be as good as those guys are... but that's doesn't stop me. :)
Anyway, glad Bill got back to you. Not surprised to see the price has gone up, given the increase in demand over the past couple of years.
To those of you who buy them, or have bought them in the past: treasure the jersey, by which I mean "wear it often." Think of it as actually useful facetime, because I imagine lots of tiny impressions raise overall awareness of Cornell's hockey program, which certainly can't hurt recruiting.
Cheers,
Kyle
So here's a silly question....
Scott is 5'6" (on skates, including hair)....I'm about 6'3" with long arms. I know jerseys are big, but would the sleeves on a short guy's jersey be ridiculously short on me?
No, all the jerseys are the same size

edit: kyle beat me to it
He did that last year too, if memory serves.
1,3,5,9,12,19,20,30 in white remaining....
i just took #1. I couldnt even find most of those players on the roster?? who are they?
I got 24 Red. Woot.
oh haha, i thought you were correcting how to spell his name. I took Chabot's....I would look silly wearing them anyways since I'm barely larger than topher scott, so hopefully I can get players to sign it and then have it framed. graduation present to myself! :)
...and the 2nd stampede of this hockey season is on. ::rolleyes::

Do you all know if there is usually something after the season ends where all the players will be around and they would be willing to autograph the jerseys?
His father said everyone in Texas expects them to donate his jerseys for auctions and stuff, so I don't think they're just hoarding all of them or anything. =]
Your best opportunity is probably at the Skate With the Big Red this weekend if you're in town.

i've found that years where we win the home playoff series, the team stays on the ice and is happy to sign jerseys. years where we don't, they get off the ice. then again, i have had no problem in the past getting some players to sign on their own time, if you ask nicely.
I thought about the playoff win thing, but, uhh, the Skate might be a better option this year. ::uhoh::

Yeah, since Schafer took over, all the non-goalie jerseys have been size 56, for those of you that pay attention to sizes. I have a Holowatiuk jersey from 1995 that's a size 48.
Thanks...since I'm in town now, I think I'll goto the skate with the red thing that was mentioned by cowbellguy (oops!) and have them sign it then. I'll stop by on Friday to pick-up/pay for the jersey.
Does anyone know why they have jerseys for people who arent even on the roster? Do they just order 1 home/away in each #1-31 or whatever and just store away the extras?

Thanks, dshaw, for starting the post in desperation, and for KenP for posting the info this morning. Dshaw...did the desperation to get a jersey keep you in the know? Anyone that wasn't on the ball this morning seems destined for a Red jersey. Glad I signed on this morning!

I picked up a #6 Red...no Douggie in White.
[Q]Is there something evil about Red jerseys that I don't know about?[/q]
They're cursed. ::scream::
I don't know, honestly: I prefer the red to the white as a thing to wear because it's more noticeable, and more generally because a sea of red is more impressive than a sea of white... but I guess I prefer the look of white on the players, most of that probably being due to watching them so many more times in white than in red.
Cheers,
Kyle
I wanted a red #24 but alas was not quick enough this morning. I'd love to know your secret Jared. :-P
I got red #10. I think they are pretty much down to numbers that people didn't wear last year. There were only like 8 left on the rack when I was there.
As of about 1, they had the following left:
in white 3,5,16,20
in red 3,9,16,17,20,21,29,30
Unfortunately, I wanted the #10 that Jacob '06 purchased!
ARG!!! that's exactly the one I wanted. damn me deciding to go into work today instead of sitting at home wasting time on elynah. i'm trying to decide if i should just plain be jealous of you or complain that you need to be on campus to get the jerseys instead of just calling in the reservations. i still want priority. :-)
Man, we've reached a whole new level of whining this year... :)
In a few years, there'll be a announcement from the issue room that the time and location of the following year's jersey sale will be simultaneously announced on the radio and on the internet immediately prior to the sale itself, so as to avoid the problems inherent in lining up days in advance for such a hot commodity. Or something.
Cheers,
Kyle
what can we say? fans will be fans.
How can Baby's Red 21 still be sitting there?! Seems like fate tempting me to switch my order. If only red weren't cursed.
How soon they forget. Poor McLeod.
FYI, if you're looking to get a nameplate, PSP Unlimited told me the price for "name plates with 3" tackle-twill letters" is $5 for the name plate and $4 for each letter.
Their number is 607-272-0099.
If you're out of town, call your local hockey team (or high school athletics dept) and ask them who they use. Getting a red name plate with white 3-inch tackle-twill letters (or vice versa on the colors) should be generic enough that any reputable place can do it for you.
grabbed white #16
Hornby, right?
Matt McKeown
I know...I meant before that...
Lots of players wore 16 before that. The jersey you're getting, however, is McKeown's.
lol...yes, i did realize that... B-]
Well, Age makes a good point. If you buy last year's #9 and slap a "Svoboda" on the back and then walk around telling everyone you've got Dan's jersey (!), is it fair to the person who actually owns the jersey that Svoboda actually played in? Dude, that's Paul Varteressian's jersey.
are most of you all planning on wearing the jerseys? Dont all start throwing rocks at me at once, but I plan on getting the team to sign the front of it and then having it framed, or just hung up in my room. I probably wont get the name plate for Chabot, since i'd rather have the front displayed showing Cornell instead of the back with the # and name.

Since I've already given my opinion (read: spoken out of my ass) on several issues today, I figure, why stop now?
Personally? Boo. I think you should wear it, and as much as possible. It's too valuable a commodity to hang on a wall all year, and as I indicated above it's a nice bit for consciousness-raising. Even if it's signed, you can still wear it: several people in fact do this.
You can always put it back on the wall (aside: I prefer to hang it in a window, but then again, I don't have a homeowner's association in my neighborhood) when you get home after wearing it, but you'd probably need to display it in something more accessible than a frame to make this practical.
Certainly, once you buy it, you are entitled to do whatever you'd like with it, whether that's wearing it, framing it, or using it as a diaper; but I think the greatest utility to the Cornell hockey community comes by virtue of the first option.
The only caveat I'd add is that when you do wear it, you should, if at all possible, avoid acting like a jackass. I'm not accusing you or anyone else here (moi?) of that, but we want to project a positive view of the program, right? :) This is why I have mixed feelings about wearing it while playing hockey (given my skill/lack thereof, sort of the sanitary equivalent of using it as a diaper), but I just can't bring myself to stop.
Cheers,
Kyle

I feel like it would be a slap in the face to Bell to put Ratushny's name on the back, so I'm not getting a nameplate at all.

What does it matter what "most of you" are doing? You paid for it, right? If you want to frame it and display it, by all means, do it. Kyle wears his gamer to play hockey in. A lot of people wear them in the stands. Some have them signed by one or more players. Hell, you can cut yours up into little swatches, if you want.
But I swear, if anyone seriously asks "how do I wash all these stick and puck marks off?" like they did last year, I'm going to shove that person in a crate and ship them to Koronis's headquarters.

is this really an issue for which we need to establish fairness rules? i guess if you sold the jersey and lied about its details (such as who donned it) then you're being unfair to the purchaser. otherwise, who cares? others who view you in the jersey will take it as homage to a particular player (or team). and the wearer might cherish it beyond that, perhaps as an artifact, but he or she will know its authenticity.
I'm leaving the name off of mine so I can honor numerous players. Underhill is the obvious recent owner, and I really respect Chabot for sticking with the program and playing well, even though he is almost never called upon. From TBRW I found that Darren Eliot, JM Pelletier, and Paris Duffus (my time), all have worn this number as well. Best of all, there is a picture of Dryden in which I can see #1 on his back. :-)
My Koronis has puck marks from playing in it. Now that I am getting a game worn, can I get the puck marks out of the Koronis? ::laugh::
When did this year's team start wearing the swoosh sweaters? I know that the team wore the Nike jerseys at Harvard. Did the players wear them or last year's CCM sweaters at Yale and Brown?

Or unless you're female. According to the last sidebar, "there's nothing sexier than a sports jersey. On a woman, that is." I have a free pass :-P
On a more slightly more pertinent note, while I think wearing jerseys to sporting events where you're a fan is generally okay, those that wear sleeveless jerseys (i.e. basketball jerseys) should seriously consider what they're wearing underneath, because I will point and laugh if it looks bad. (See the top picture.) Luckily, hockey jerseys don't have that problem :)
On a much less pertinent note, I heard last week on the radio that Japanese baseball was going to require those that led cheers in the stands to have permits. When googles, this is the article I came up with: http://www.japantoday.com/e/?content=kuchikomi&id=364 Imagine having to investigate every person that started a cheer in Lynah...

Yeah, yeah, I know. I kept on reading that sidebar. My "unless you're female" point may stand, though, as I would assume most girls wearing jerseys are doing it because they're ardent fans and thus have a very good reason to overrule their innate fashion sense. While guys are given the same courtesy in my mind if they're at a game (especially if I know the jersey is hard to get, ahem, CORNELL), I'm far more likely to completely dismiss them outside of that context.

I think an important sign of self-respect for guys is the willingness not to do whatever it takes to get some chick in the sack. When a guy starts down that road, he'll inevitably end up getting married to someone who'll nag him into his grave.

Yep
Last year the patches said "ECAC" with "Hockey" underneath. This year's ECACHL logo on the website has "Hockey League" underneath. I haven't taken notice of this year's patch, but perhaps it too is updated, such that last year's patches couldn't be recycled.

Well if you got Connors then you missed someone else. But we went through and accounted for each one. The only one we're not pretty darn sure about is Chris Abbott. So if that's Connos, then you wouldn't have Chris. I dunno, your call :)
i dont think i have chris's...he was going around the ice and i had a hard time catching him in my shoes :)
I thought I heard that Chris Fontas was there, wearing Connors' jersey...which, if true, begs the question of where Connors was.

Yes you are correct. I'm guessing Connors and Mugford (who all weren't there) had exams tonight. The exam schedule is all screwed up this year; I have a regularly scheduled exam at night next Thursday.
Well if you don't think you got Chris's, and Connors wasn't there, then I'm back to having no idea who the hell that is above Barlow :)

Bitz? He was there.

Can somebody tell me what the signatures on Jason L's jersey are? I think I can discern most of them, but I'm having trouble figuring out two or three of them (including the one above Barlow).

I think it's Bitz
oh yeah..i am a moron btw.
i had chabot sign my jersey on both the front and the back, since its his, and he personalized it on the back to me.
of course I'm an idiot and asked him to sign it where the name patch is goign to go. so now i'm not sure if I'm going to get the name patch, since it will cover up the sig. on the back.
Sweet! Got my #1 Red in the mail today. I was going to leave the name off because so many good goaltenders have worn this number. I think I will put Chabot's name back on it in respect to him, however. He certainly deserves it after sticking with the program and playing well when he was called upon this year despite being a backup throughout his career. Besides, in a few years we can see how many people know who it is when I go to games. That would definitely be a sign of a good fan. :-)
There are only a few puck marks which would be cool anyway, but there is a rust or burn line across the top of the letters from the "R" to the 1st "L". Not sure what that is or how it got there.

A lot of goalie jerseys have a faded red spot across the back of the jersey from leaning against the crossbar. But I have a hunch that if you watch Louis during the next home game, you might find that he has a habit of leaning forward against the top of the boards, which is painted red.
I have red all over my white practice jersey from the crossbar like you said. You have a good idea about the bench, but this is a rust or burned color and less than 1/2" wide. It looks a little like some of the spots on my T-shirts that I throw on a metal staircase to dry after I play. The difference is that it is a line, so I thought maybe he left it hanging on something metal when it was wet. I guess without asking Louis I will never know for sure.
On a side note, I was psyched to wear it last night. The jersey must have a good vibe, because I played one of the best games of my life, getting a tie game despite facing about 70 shots compared to about 20 for the other goalie. Somehow I was doing things like kicking rebounds out of the air with my leg pad while lying on my back from the initial save. I hope that keeps up. :-D
wow....
Had I known the jerseys came with "magical powers" I would have gotten one much early, like back when i was playing hockey in ithaca......
unfortunately, no place to play here and see if cam's #14 has extra special "hustle power". Well I guess i *could* wear it on the local skating circle (yes, skating circle) and see how many toddlers i can skate through ;-)

Now that you mention it, that's what it looks like. Probably a good call.
OK sorry to rehash an old topic that was adequately answered already, but what font should the name on the jersey be in, and did someone say the place to get it done was down by Wegmanns?

Font? Not sure, but it should be sans serif.
Place to get it done: PSP. Take a right onto the road immediately before Wegman's and Mcguire's Nissan/Ford(?) dealership (so that Wegman's will be on your left), follow to the T-stop. Turn left onto Cherry St, follow to the end of the road. PSP will be on your left (245 Cherry St).

I'd suggest finding and printing out a picture of your player that shows his name on the back of the jersey and telling PSP that you want it to look exactly like that.
Randomly came across this thread and definitely would like to get one as a late Xmas present for someone. Has anyone called up and been informed that there are none left? Maybe I'll make a quick call tomorrow.

I'm sure there are SOME jerseys left, but the likelihood of getting the one you want is slim, assuming you're going to want one of the jerseys that most everyone else wanted (i.e., those of the popular players like McKee, Moulson, etc.). One thing to keep in mind is that today is supposedly the last day the university will be open until January 3 (at least that's the way it is for most staff members), so if the Teagle issue room is even open today, it likely won't be open tomorrow.
I just received my jersey back from PSP last night via UPS Ground. I had them put a nameplate with a seven-letter name, and a single-digit number on the jersey, and they charged me $48 (before tax but including shipping) for it. It was somewhat more than I thought it would be. Is that about the same amount that other people have paid for PSP's services, or did I get horked?

wait a sec ... you had them put a number on? first, did you have it put on the back and arms? if this is the case, then you got a decent deal if that includes the nameplate. if you just paid for a nameplate then they ripped you off. or PSP are possibly ripping everyone off now? my nameplate was $5 and letters were $3, totaling $20. FWIW, this was in 2000.
I had them put a number on the back. No arms. And this wasn't a game-worn jersey, if that helps any (there wasn't already a number on there).
I have no idea how much of the $48 was for shipping. I'll have to find out.
honestly i dont think there are any jerseys left...when I went to pick mine up they said they were all spoken for.
of course there is a chance that maybe some people who reserved one did not pay for them, so they are back up for sale. would be worth a shot calling up to see if they had any left.

Y'know, if my scarf is able to crawl over to the computer and post to the eLF, I'm thinking it's time to break out the Woolite. ::uhoh::
Hey guys, on game night have you had trouble deciding whether to wear your Red or White Cornell game worn jersey?
If you are looking to attract the ladies, this article says you should wear your RED (http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/08/06/red.romance.study/index.html?hpt=Sbin).**]

Damn! I bought a tasteful gray sweatshirt with just a small, red Cornell "C" my freshman year and wore it on every road trip during all my years on the hill. Now you tell me this. No wonder I never got laid. ::doh::
Just wondering if the process of obtaining a jersey is the same as stated in the FAQ:
"Acquiring a jersey from the Teagle issue room is actually quite a straight forward process with the proper information in hand. You need to contact William Reynolds (wlr5 at cornell.edu) via email to let him know you are interested. You then simply need to stop by the issue room during the week between 10am and 4pm to pick up your jersey. The jerseys are $100 apiece and have had the name plates and captain's letters removed."
I would guess there are different times during the year that jerseys are available. Would this be correct and if so when are jerseys typically available?
Thanks.

Jerseys are $125 a piece. Email Bill now, they are generally available right before the season starts. Last year, they didn't sell them out immediately. Players don't change jerseys throughout the season so this is the only time they are guaranteed to be available.
Edit: I think the Jerseys are $125 each. I spent $250 for two, but cannot recall. Phone Bill and he'll let you know.
My sense is that early December is typically when the previous year's are released, but it worth inquiring at the source.
Thanks for the update. Glad to hear $250 was for two. I sent my request in today.
You won't be able to reserve a jersey by e-mail. It will just get you on Bill's list. He'll send out an e-mail around 7am the day they're available and it's first come, first served. I think you can call to get them if you're not local, but not until the magic e-mail goes out. In the past, they've been available any time from late October through December. The $125 price is correct. I'll try to remember to update the FAQ.
Wearing my jersey at the office party today as a stand in for a Santa costume. Close enough.
