Title: "Important Message Tonight's Hockey Game"
Post by: redhair34 on November 18, 2005, 04:55:47 PM
Just got this email from athletics...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To:       Men's ice hockey student season ticket holders

From:   Cornell Athletics

Subject:  Important Lynah Rink reminders

New York State law and the Cornell Campus Code require you exit the rink in
an orderly manner when an alarm sounds.
Please note the policy of zero tolerance for:

Throwing objects on the ice.  If you are caught throwing anything, you will
be ejected from the game, lose your season tickets and be responsible for
Cornell's team being penalized for delay of game.

Profane or threatening language, signs or gestures.  If you are identified,
you will be ejected from the game, lose your season tickets and be referred
to the judicial administrator.

Thank you for your positive support of Big Red Hockey.

Does anyone else question how they can hold you responsible for Cornell being penalized?

Does someone expect an alarm? What's that all about?

Public humiliation might work … they could parade them out onto the ice before the next game to endure the ridicule from their fellow Faithful. Possibly make them read some sort of apology? Then escort them from the rink making sure they know this is last time they’ll set foot inside Lynah for the remainder of the year. ::worry::

If its formatted exactly like the above, its kinda cute how Cornell would seeminly have you believe that New York State law has zero tolerance for profanity. ;-)

Personally, I didn't even realize it was a fire alarm that was going off.  I thought the Zamboni or something was broken and making a weird noise.  If I had known for sure it was an alarm, of course I would have left in an orderly fashion.

I realized it was an alarm (eventually), and was about to leave, but no one was leaving.  Even the ushers were just standing there.

Title: Clearing Lynah in an emergency
Post by: Mike Nevin on November 19, 2005, 01:44:05 PM
It seems silly that anyone would expect Lynah to be cleared out based on an alarm. -- If it were a real emergency, it would seem like Arthur Mintz would take care of us, and suggest we clear the building.

On a side note, Lynah has got to be about the easiest place on earth to get out of in an emergency.  From almost any section, you would just have to climb up the section, under the rail, and out the door.  For a venue of its size, it could not be easier to clear if there were a real emergency.
