Healing a gaping wound in the Ithaca restaurant scene:

Toasted ravioli, arrabiata, and breadsticks, oh my!

I'm a Lansing boy, so it was kind of my hometown Italian restaurant:  never liked the Coddington or Lucatelli's too much; Rosetti's was pretty good, but it closed; Franco's was good but a more recent development.  So, in the land of limited-but-not-bad-choices, Joe's was always my favorite.

Woo hoo!!

There's better places - but for the money, when we were in school, it was perfect.  bottomless salad bowls, breadsticks ... great stuff.

Yeahhh!  I couldn' t believe when I was in Ithaca a few years ago and it was closed.  I used to eat at both Big and Little Joes all of the time.  Awesome ravioli and seafood linguini.  I had my graduation dinner there in '95.  Looking forward to checking it out if I can get down to see a home game.  LGR!!  :-D

Well at least he's not the "xerox copy boy please make me coffee gopher" at a certain law firm like uh who was that again, oh yeah.  But I guess maybe you lost that gem of a job Facelesstimer.

Nice to see you checking in Adam.

Cheap and filling -- definitely two words dear to any students' ears. Glad it's back.

I hope that the food is of the same quality that we knew and loved.  Joe's had always been run by a single family.  Joe and his descendents were dedicated to their business.  Here's hoping the new Joe's is every bit as good.

So what's the verdict?  Is Joe's open - how is the food?

I went there last night.  I'm a food snob after working in a ton of restaurants in a big city and catering for years.  i wanna say, Joe's rocks!  There were lots of people there.  And everything was great for my table (and the table behind us).  Go to Joe's.  (You gotta ask for croutons for yer salad if you want them, but they got croutons)- my only comment other than, "perfect".

If this was a paid marketing move, its genius ;)

I have no idea about the quality of the new Joes, nor have much to compare it against because I'd only been to the original once and that was in its declining years.

But just the claim of a "food snob" rating it perfect, when a previous non-snob's review was so-so... makes me wonder :)

I'd say you hit the nail on the head, DeltaOne.  It was no where near perfect.

Will we try again?  Yes.  Will we visit a third time under this ownership?  That's up to them!::wtf::

My review after the first meal at the new (reopened, whatever) restaurant.

Meh.  Nice atmosphere.  Very, very slow service.  Food was nothing to write home about, but I started very safe (spaghetti, meat sauce, meat balls, a few appetizer tastes).

But,

(1) beats the hell out of anything else on offer
(2) quiet atmosphere
(3) they will, indeed, serve you beer in a wine carafe

B+, but I'd go back.

They have all the stuff I remember going to Joe's for: bottomless salad, breadsticks, and kick-ass chicken marsala.  Now if only Billy Bob Jack's would re-open...

BBJ's closed? The one by the Pyramid Mall? Aw hell no!

Both of them are closed.  I was crushed when I found out walking down Dryden in January.  I have a lot of fond memories of both restaurants.

So with the demise of BBJBBQS and BistroQ/Buffalo St. BBQ, what 'Que options does that leave Ithaca?  Dinosaur in Syracuse/Rochester?  The "awsome blossom" at Chilis?  Applebee's riblets??  ::panic::  ::cry::

Oh wait...I forgot about Ralph's Ribs.  Please tell me that Ralph's Ribs is still open.

Now what Collegetown *really* needs is some sort of asian restaurant.

Kyle[/quote]Me too.  Well, the one by Pyramid anyway - the one in C-town wasn't as good.  It didn't have the 49er anyway.  Man, that means my listings on the toilet seat are gone forever! How sad.

Edit: I like obscure references, but this one I think I'd better clarify.  I mean the toilet seat on the wall in the lobby, next to the plaque.

What was your time for the 49er? I seem to remember something about a ridiculous time, but my brain can't seem to recall whether that was yours or someone else's (Dan?) or maybe someone we don't even know...

So who's actually been there? How's the food and service? We thought of Joe's for the pre-Saturday-Clarkson dinner but the small sampling of opininons we got was: service can be slow ... food's okay to good, not good to great. So we wound up at Nines.

I was there this weekend, it was late so it was not busy at all.

service was decent, and food arrived quickly.  I enjoyed my shrimp scampi but my gf's lasagna wasnt the best.

The breadsticks were really good.  the unlimited salad was pretty good, but the dressing was a little sweet, but still good.

overall, I enjoyed it, and will probably return when I get a chance.
