Does anyone know if he is still alive. If so, what is he up to?
heh. Yes, he's alive and retired in Florida, as far as I know. In fact they often parade him out there for the Ned Harkness Cup at the Everblades Tourney.
That reminds me, I really should get a scan made of the great photo we had taken of him and us the first year of the tourney... he actually looks a little like a wax museum figure in the photo, but it's a great shot.
Edit: Or maybe some Newman or other already has it in electronic format somewhere?

Ned was interviewed last year during the Florida tourney....they asked the requisite 1970 undefeated question.....he replied that they had quite a special goalie that year ::looking::.... and I don't think he was referring to Brian Cropper....
So who was he referring to?
Well most who don't remember that year think that Ken Dryden was in goal. He graduated in '69.
I disagree.
It's a rookie mistake to "think" that Dryden was in goal in '70. It also shows Cropper no respect.

I don't necessarily disagree that it could be considered "rookie", but when the NCAA and apparently NED HARKNESS, make the mistake, it's pretty common.
We don't have any proof that Harkness did in fact make this mistake. Marty was just drawing his own conclusion about the comment he heard. Ned may have been talking about Cropper or may even have been making a reference to the fact that people always think Dryden played in 1970.
my guess is that it's the latter. Imagine how many times Harkness has heard Dryden referred to as the goalie on that team.
If Cropper had a nickle for every time he was "overlooked", he'd be rich! For all I know, he is anyway!

Well he was "the little guy." ;-)
Somewhere here I have the "program" from the game at Clarkson Arena on 2/2/71. One of the best played college games I have ever seen; surely the most exciting. I think Bullock, Clarkson's 2 time AA goalie, was listed as 5' 8" and Cropper was listed as an inch shorter.
Or it may have been 5' 7" and 5' 6", not sure. Either way, that game, like their playoff meetings in '70, was a battle of "little guys" who played huge!

This should be cut-and-pasted into one of those "Offense R00LZ" threads over on USCHO. "Best played" and "most exciting" used to describe a game in which the final score was 2-1 in OT!
