Chabot in net for Cornell at 4:09 of the second period
1-0 Dartmouth on a PP goal. Looked like a deflection and weird bounce -> rebound goal.
1 9:49 Drt pp Glass (Przepiorka, Overlock)
Dartmouth is definitely outskating Cornell as of this moment.
Cornell to the PP.
Woo!!
BITZY BITZY BITZY on the PP!
1-1
nice puck movement on the PP
Even with the lousy video,we could see what a pretty goal that was!
Bitz off Moulson!
1 14:22 Cor pp Bitz 1 (Moulson 4, Scott 6)
I wonder if anybody else gets that.
Looks like they're still outskating us, though.
Belows(?) for D'mouth
2-1 DC
2-1 Dartmouth with 4:03 left.
Once again, McKee lets in some goals early... let's see if he tightens up like he has in the previous games.
3-1. Bleh.
3-1 DC
what the hell just happened?
3-1 Dartmouth.
Can we start questioning Dave McKee yet? Dartmouth is outplaying and outworking Cornell right now, but last year McKee pulled us through in times like these.
This is like the second period against MSU. We're watching them play.
this period can't end fast enough
we need a big locker room speech here by Schafer...
does near sellout mean 40% empty?? for a near sellout lots of empty seats.
Tough period to watch. We chased them all over the ice and occasionally crosschecked or yanked them down. Numerous D breakdowns, especially by Gleed of all people.
Gleed now skating off with a trainer.
The commentators for the video feed are idiots. What "sell out crowd"? I see half the seat empty.
were the announcers just suggesting putting Chabot in? ::uhoh::
Gleed needs assistance to skate off. That won't help matters.
[Q]upprdeck Wrote:

It's no different with Harvard: every year, there are so many empty seats begging for Cornellians who couldn't buy tickets even at a premium. Killer opportunity for ticket brokers, if only they cared...
Kyle
Haha! I can still hear them! Lol
It definitely looks like the second period from MSU. I think our defense is in for some huge problems if we cant start covering ppl in front of the net. All 3 goals so far were within 5 feet of our goal. Our defense needs to start taking the ppl out in front of the net. Dartmouth's second goal was a direct result of two of our players running into each other. The last one was just a horrible goal to give up, all 5 players on the ice were just standing around waiting for something to happen.
Hopefully Schaeffer gives them a talkin to like the MSU game else we dont have a shot comin back into this game
We usually suck in the 2nd pd.
The commentator is berating Cornell fans for supporting their team after it was scored on? Well that is certainly indicative of non-Lynah Faithful fans, to shut up when not winning.
If you take out the MSU 2nd period we've been outscored 2-1 in the 2nd period. Not a big deal and a tiny sample size.
[Q]Oat Wrote:

I think we just saw "a 2nd period". We now need a couple of 3rd periods
The color guy is killing me. I just did some research of my own, and he's a Dartmouth freshmen, so that could explain it. They're attributing Cornell's 4-1 record to the fact that they haven't been challenged. Grrr. Because Q and Princeton are the best of the best.
Now he's saying that the Cornell radio crew is giving them dirty looks. Kill, Weinstein, kill!
He wasn't berating them, and generally speaking the Dartmouth announcers have been very complimentary of the Faithful and really all things Cornell. You can't blame them for crowing for going up on nationally ranked opponent. They aren't announcing for our fans, but for theirs.
Whatever they're eating, I'm sure it tastes great.

Not berating them? May I quote? here we go:
"What could they have possibly be chanting after their team was scored on?"
and
"One would be better staying quite in their position."
start of 2nd, DC on pp
And I could give you a dozen quotes about how intense and numerous they are.
Nevermind, game on.
Game on.
Still about a minute to kill in the penalty before Cornell can take this game back.

Can anyone say "Yale"? Oh, wait, that game didn't happen. ::yark::
4 goals on 12 shots
Wow big surprise another rebound goal with no Red defender taking the player
Oh boy. 1-4. :-/
Although to be optimistic, if any team is capable of collapsing and allowing lots of goals, it is Dartmouth playing their safety sieve.
oh i did ... my ears are still bleeding ;-)
we need to score here
ok, 5x3, let's make something happen here.
5x3 coming up.
Cornell on pp 5-3
5-3 for a minute and a half. Here you go CU, you have to take this opportunity.
Quite frankly, this is embarassing.
lost the 5-3 advantage
We cant even control the puck on a 5 on 3
We can't even get set up on a 5x3. This is really tough to take.
Nice try there by Abbott. Dartmouth's flying -- we need to take the air out of their sails.
Carefoot hooking, 4x4 for 26 seconds
5-1. Time to put Chabot in.
5-1 DC
Oh my God
DC on breakaway
5-1

How about for his performance? 5 goals on less than 15 shots is not acceptable for someone who was a Hobey Baker finalist regardless of how the team in front of him is playing.
I know we have to support our team, but there is a point where we need to recognize that McKee is playing MUCH WORSE than last year.
Time to attack. Great teams find ways out of holes like this.
Dartmouth announcer "This WILL be a huge win."
Chabot must be more shocked about this than anyone else...

Not at all. Unfortunately, surrendering this game would be leaving McKee in.
Chabot right now is looking much better then McKee
Chabot playing fine so far.

Good point. A comeback would be the stuff of legend. Getting past a loss is more important and more likely goal for Cornell. No team goes unbeaten.

6-1 on the shorty. 3:53 to go in the second period, shots 23-8.
Interesting to see what happens from here on out. Hopefully, no fights. I just want to see the guys turn in a strong finish, pot a goal, and go home. 3-1 after 4 on the road aint bad at all. and after tonight it looks like only SLU might be undefeated (and they're losing right now).
No matter what the final is tonight, they've still taken 6 out of 8 points on the road to start Conference play. Hopefully they'll just forget tonight and move on (barring the always possible miracle, of course).
The Faithful need to give them a raucous welcome home and make life miserable for Onion and the Institute next week.
anyone wonder what practice will be like this week..
You know - I think in Matt Moulson's ESPN interview - he said that the Dartmouth rink was the most hostile place he has been in except for Lynah.

Well, if Schafer's speeches are proportional to goal differential, they're about to hear an earful.
All I ask is that they come out swinging next period, turn the light on at least once and (most important) figure out a way to get McKee's confidence back. That's the most important thing.

Play by play is OK. I'm guessing you missed the conversation over their commercial break where the color guy pondered about how exciting the third period since Cornell would be playing with a goalie pulled. He was told gently that generally the losing team only pulls a goalie when down by a goal or two and in the last few minutes of the game.
Maybe his lack of hockey knowledge is why every other comment he makes is about our fans or the game atmosphere.

2 I think
let's hope we don't see this "team" for a long long time ... bring back our Big Red please;-)
Anyone who said it was 40% empty is either blind or looking through extremely rose-tinted glasses.
Seating capacity at Thompson is 3500. SRO is another 1000, giving a total capacity of 4500. The students showed up 10 minutes into the first like usual, but they eventually showed up and filled their sections pretty well. Was it as full as last night? Eh, maybe. But I'd say anything over 4000 was a fair count (it was 4215, compared to 4100+ last night), because there was no way you could fit another 500 people in there tonight under current fire codes. I admit it'd still be cool to see some of the crowds from back in the late 70's/early 80's when they let ~5000 in.
But standing room tonight was full all the way around and 2-deep in certain spots, and invariably included some people who otherwise had seats but chose to stand instead.
[Q]Dart~Ben Wrote:

Hi Ben. Congrats on the win. :`(
We were watching on the video webcast and could see the center section and one or two to either side, on the opposite side of the ice from the camera. Half full is pretty accurate for those sections. From our view, Cornell attacked to the left the first and third periods. You mention students. Perhaps those were the townie sections that were not nearly filled? Either that or half the people were wearing green, never moved, and therefore blended in perfectly with the seats ;)
I think the 40% empty figure is a little exaggerated...
The students definitely weren't there at the beginning of the game and very slowly trickled in, but were pretty solidly packed my the middle of the game - but Cornell fans probably wouldn't have been able to see them, as it sounds like they were in the corner to the right of the camera. The rest of the sections were mostly full, but with a lot of empty seats scattered around. I think we've got a skewed idea of what "full" looks like, since Lynah rarely has many empty seats.

Maybe during intermission ;-) (or when there were 5 minutes left and the townies started leaving early).
But no way were they that empty at the midpoint of the game. I was in the pressbox all night looking directly at the benches all game, same as the webcasting camera. Were they 100% filled? No. But there's no way they were only half full, either. And like I said, there's no way you could've fit another 500 people in the building last night, so 4000+ is pretty accurate. 4200 was probably a little inflated, but I'm not going to apologize for that when everyone else does it too, especially after the "tickets sold but people didn't show up" factor is taken into account.
[Q]Dart~Ben Wrote:

I'm not gonna expect you to apologize for that, I understand it completely. I'm not going to play "the Lynah card" or anything. A sellout hardly ever means every seat taken, and I understand that if all seats are sold, it's typically 90% full.
I wish I had a screen shot of the video, or it was archived, cause I wear that side looked at least 40% empty. And the video quality as quite good (could easily read the numbers on the players backs). I dunno, maybe people wearing mostly green blended in? I wouldn't think so cause it's not like the white Dartmouth players blended in to the ice. And it wasn't just during intermissions. Everytime there was a penalty or goal, they panned up to the scoreboard and back down (a nice touch, wish our paid video did that :-P ), and you saw the crowd.
I can't explain how what your eyes saw and what mine saw were so very different. We all know you're a good guy Ben, and I do not believe you to be a liar at all. I wish I had a shot from the video so we could all see it and discuss it. They don't archive it, do they?
[Q] I was in the pressbox all night[/Q]
So do you know the freshman jack-off who was the color guy? Could you tell him that there's such a thing as supporting your team even when they're behind :-P. And that since you guys have free video, there will probably be a lot of opponents fans watching. Yes, we clap and cheer "Let's Go Red" after a goal is scored against us... get over it :-P
P.S. It's unfortunate (well, for us) that it takes you a crushing of Cornell to get you back here. Hopefully this takes the sting off the Yale loss last year :). Hang around, you're a good contributor and a welcome addition to eLynah whenever you feel like joining us.

I'm on a self-imposed moratorium from most message boards for the most part since I'm now an athletic dept. employee and not just an alum. I probably shouldn't have even posted to begin with, but whatever, a few non-inflamatory issues won't hurt anything. at the beginning of the game, the rink was half empty. the dc "student sections" (20-21?) had maybe 5 fans. by the end of the game, the rink was maybe 80% full, though it was a graveyard in all the sections but the visiting one.
the video commentators made a comment to the effect of "the student section is filling up nicely" sometime either in the 3rd period or late in the 2nd

Student sections are 18-21, basically they get everything from the red line to the corner on that side of the ice. And obviously, the sections closest to the red line fill up before the ones in the corner behind the safety netting.
