moving up despite unimpressive performances... and Princeton?
Dammit. Alone in the top 15 again. EZAC, say the voters. We have three others in the top 20, though. *sigh*

Do we still have the best interleague record? If so, we really shouldn't be punished too much for losing to each other (see WCHA teams that lose and lose and still maintain top 15 status for their potential and strength of schedule).
I'd be happier if we had more teams in the poll. I'll accept dominating the "Also receiving votes."
It's funny that QU cracks the "top 20" by beating two teams not in the "top 20" ::help:: Go SLU and 'Gate! (except against us)
We have the best inter-conference record (.643) to the CCHA's .588 and HEA's .529 (others under .500).
However, we have the second best record against the Big-4 (.517) to the CCHA's .571 (all under's under .500).
So a decent amount of our best interconference record comes at the expense of the AHA and CHA, but even without that we still top HEA and the WCHA, interconference wise. It'll be interesting to see how those extra wins end up affecting the later season KRACH/RPI. A good Christmas tournament season for the ECAC (and a good Beanpawt... ha! just kidding!) would go a long ways towards solidifying that.

oh wait, vermont is the evil stepchild, i forgot
now what coach/writer would give princeton a top 20 spot??
any guesses?
[Q]now what coach/writer would give princeton a top 20 spot??
any guesses?[/q]Keep in mind that 20th best team in D1 translates to somewhere around a .500 record. In other words, you don't have to be very good to rank that high. That said, I don't think Princeton will be even that good, but who knows?
well top 27 count towards pwr (maybe more now that RIT is herE??)
also - does anyone know when they start the RPI and PWR again?
And the USCHO poll...

That said, I don't think Princeton will be even that good, but who knows?[/q]Among ~ 58 D1 hockey teams, the most likely to be at .500 would be #29, I would think. It's possible those ranked 20 to 40 could all be around .500, but the likeliest to be in the middle is the team in the middle.
[q]does anyone know when they start the RPI and PWR again?[/q]Who do you mean by "they"? If you mean USCHO, then they start showing PWR sometime in January. It doesn't really mean very much before then. But I wouldn't be surprised if some of the usual hockey geeks start compiling it earlier, for what it's worth. (NO, Whelan doesn't have it posted yet...)

It takes into account perceptions of schedule strength, etc. The polls track PWR pretty well later in the season and I'd bet that the team ranked #20 in PWR is not too far from a .500 win pct., esp. since they started using RPI > ,5000 as the cutoff for TUC instead of Pct. > .500.
Besides, I never defined what "around .500" meant. :-P
what about the second accident duplicate post (see post #1 in this thread)
That wasn't an accident, that was formatted. :-P
There were 3 or four teams last year that were TUC with less than a 0.500 record, all of whom were in the WCHA, CCHA (and HEA?). Because the criterion is RPI, not W/L, the mediocre teams that play a lot of games against the top teams (i.e. the conferences with good teams, but few teams) tend to get a bit of TUC favoritism by the current method.

Post #1 was the USAToday poll. jmh30's post was the USCHO poll.

Hmmmm, while nice of them to attempt it, they need to fix one thing in their script (not sure how much of a difference it'll make): a record of 0-0-0 counts as 0.0000. For instance, in the TUC category. So our TUC record, in the comparison with MSU (since they're the only TUC we faced) is 0.0000 and they win the point. Now, they win the comparision 2-1 without it anyway, but it could be screwing stuff up in other places.

And here
http://www.rpihockey.net/misc.rank1.shtml
Having seen last Friday's Princeton shutout of Dartmouth (3-0) and Sklapsky's 41 saves, I'd say Princeton will make a competitive game with pretty much anyone this year (except Cornell, of course). But for coming up a goal short against Harvard last Saturday (with a different netminder -- Leroux), they'd be 3-1. Overall, though, they look much more competitive. Quite a positive change from recent years. Perhaps it's their new hockey jerseys juicing them up -- with their big PU shield emblazened front and center on their chests.
I understand the Harvard game was SRO -- very unusual for their quiet barn. Can't wait for the annual PU vs. CU "home-game-away-from-home" this January. Already have my block of seats paying the extra $3 per seat "Cornell Premium" and will duly outfit my block with red clothing for Christmas.

Bryan Vernon Sterling Sklapsky actually plays this year?
Fantastic. I can't wait to play Princeton now.
