Title: 2003 NCAA Tickets
Post by: Jim Hyla on May 18, 2002, 06:08:17 PM
This may have been previously posted, but for those who are not on priority, the ticket application must be in by 5/22. Download it here http://www.ncaachampionships.com/staticfiles/2003_mhko_application.pdf .
Good luck.

Thank goodness they asked for an e-mail address on the application... since I left my job at Columbia, I've been online most weekdays all day from home, and they couldn't get through to me yesterday to let me know my credit card wasn't going through.

Thank goodness also that someone in the ticket office at HSBC Marine Whatever Arena thought to e-mail me about it instead of continuing to get busy signals.  (Is there a "whew" emoticon?)

I haven't seen a charge on my credit card yet, but I expect they'll get around to it soon.  Unfortunately, the charge doesn't mean you get tickets.  The NCAA charges every single applicant, keeps all the money for a month or so, holds the lottery and then reimburses those who aren't selected.   Pretty slick scam.  I'd love to see what they pick up in interest for that one month.

Not that I care as long as I get tickets.  :-)

That practice is illegal in a couple of states, too - but none of the states that will ever host the Frozen Four.

Actually, the "let's charge everyone, then run the lottery months later" thing isn't happening this year, apparently.  My family sent in 3 ticket requests, each under a different family member's name (we live at 3 different addresses), each recieved cards a week later saying that the lottery would take place in June and we would find out by late June the results.  I believe the lottery occured late last week.  My Dad had his credit card charged last Friday.  My Brother and I still have not been charged as of Tuesday.  Therefore, I don't think they charge you anything unless you get the tickets.

Well I got my rejection letter and returned check today :`(   The arena claims they received twice as many applications for tickets than are available.  It's great to see that there's such an interest in college hockey, but I just wish I could be one of the lucky ones to get tickets.  My application will apparently be kept in the order it was selected in the random selection process and I could be contacted in the event that any additional tickets become available.  If the "1964" typed in the upper right-hand corner  equals my selection number, I'm not holding my breath.  It is so frustrating living so close to the tournament and not being able to go!  If any of you were lucky enough to get tickets and won't be able to use them, please please please let me know!  I have always dreamed of going to an NCAA tournament game.  I missed my only chance back in '97, when I could've gone with the band.  I was a freshman and it was a fight just to get my parents to let me skip part of spring break to go to Placid.  They said I was only allowed to be away for one weekend and since I don't like to take risks, I took the sure thing and went to Placid.  I wouldn't have traded that for anything, but I'm still trying to realize my dream of going to the NCAAs.

There will likely be plenty of tickets available come March, esp. if we get lucky and some of the usual suspects have bad seasons or get upset in the first round.  Check eBay, or look here and at USCHO.

The HOCKEY-L mailing list is also a good place to buy/sell Frozen Four(TM) tickets.

Somebody is already selling tickets on ebay.  I don't have the link handy and can't visit ebay from work, but it should be easy enough to search for it.  I think the seller wants something like 3 times the ticket price.:-(

Speaking as someone who lost money on selling his FF tickets a couple years ago, just wait til near the tourney and you'll find more than you can shake a hockey stick at.

The seller of http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1361215372 has not only violated eBay policy and NY state law by asking for $1,199.99 as a "Buy It Now" price, which is way more than 20% over the $485 face value of four tickets (NY state law says 20% is the limit), but he's also lied to eBay about the face value to begin with, claiming that $955 is the highest allowable bid, when it's actually $582 ($485 + 20%).

So I've reported him.  We'll see what happens.

Flat out lying about facec value is commonplace on eBay.

And as per my last report of someone, they do nothing about it.  I rececived a response that eBay is not responsible for what people report as the face value.

I pointed them to the PDF of the original application, though.  In theory that's evidence enough.  If it's not I'll contact the proper authorities.

Kristen,

I got my reject letter Saturday around noon in the mail.  Only consolation is I was number  "1024" in the corner.... some chance!?!  -- guess I ''wait"  til at least late Feb. to start looking for tickets...
