I feel for the kid & I hope he gets his life together. I don't find anything funny about this.

Exactly right. Psychological ailments can be as crippling as so-called "physical" ones--and in fact have "physical" causes.

poor form on this thread.
Age, can we delete this one?

Woah, woah... Age doesn't delete the porn bot spam. I think you guys are taking this way too seriously. Sure, it's serious for him, and no one's wishing him any ill-will... but still, it was pretty funny :-}

Sorry, I don't see anything funny in the struggles of Hirsch (it's not like he got drunk and got caught taking a leak on the ice at Mariucci...this doesn't appear to be something he brought on himself), nor did I see anything funny in the message itself...did I miss a joke?
I'm not big on censoring anyone, but seriously what's funny?
That and I thought we had this whole conversation last March.
When I made the first post (ahem, I screwed up by putting the subject of the post in the 'your name' field. apparently i wasnt logged in.
Nothing was meant to be funny. I just wanted to post the link because I knew we had talked about it before. Cmon guys

Going with what I said when we did discuss this last March... if he's on the ice playing against us, he's fair game. But, if this is serious enough to be keeping him out of action for a whole year, we're at the point where it stops being a laughing matter.
This is a tragedy:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/ncaa/10/23/goalpost.death.ap/index.html?cnn=yes
On the other hand, a guy who has to sit out of sports for a year to get some counseling (but is well enough to still go to school, in my understanding), isn't exactly like he has cancer or his mother died or something. It'd be cruel and wrong to say anything to his face or even his friends, but calling him a nut on a message board and finding his previous antics amusing - well, maybe I have a dark sense of humor, but I don't see it as a crime against humanity or anyone being hurt by it.
Ther's nothing funny about eating children, either. So I ask those who would delete this thread: why do you hate children!!!!?
I don't get it. The OP never said anything was funny. He linked an article and labeled the situation a "saga," which is a fair word. Why did everyone all of a sudden start an argument about whether this is "funny" or not?

Using the thread title "nut" may have something to do with it.
I think some people can see humor in the situation and some can't... that's each individual's right. Nobody would dare say anything to anybody directly tied to the situation though.
I think the whole thing is bizarre... not necessarily funny. But... if at the end of a game last year, Hugh Jessiman did the same thing at Lynah, which one of you would not be laughing your butt off!!??
Maybe his overall situation isnt proper to laugh at, but that little display he did after the WCHAs last year was his choice to do, and was a tad bit comical.

At this point we should have nothing to hope other than to hope he improves. It's really too bad that mental illness still carries the "funny/nut" to it. Anyone who has had someone close have to go through it, can attest as to how painful it is to all, friends, relatives, and the patient. It's terrible to have to stand by and realize that you can't do that much to help, other than to be there when it's needed.
If we could get rid of the funny, nutcase, and maybes, we would all do alot better.

Extremely well said.
And I'll add that mental illness is indeed tragic, there is no more appropriate word.
(added) umm, the username I use is suddenly not so good.
Then again, as Mel Brooks said, "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die."
There's something more than a little crazy about adults who care about some kids sliding around on ice beating a puck with sticks. If he had just said it was performance art and commentary on the human condition a lot of people would have thought what he did was brilliant and gotten him an NEA grant.

That is after all, if it is mental illness at all. Everyone has their moments. Im not his doctor, they dont tell us what his problem actually is. So - time will tell.

I would have given him a standing ovation for doing it on one ankle and from Hanover given his injury at the time.
The point is taken, but I disagree that it's one's individual right to laugh at another's psychological problems. While it's their "right" in the strictest sense, it's deplorable and goes against any sense of decency, even Lynah's compromised decency.
I have the right to laugh at anyone I damn well please, no matter how much this d0isplays my poor taste. You have a right to demonstrate your disapproval and to shun me if I do not.
We hashed this out in March. Nothing more to see here. Next topic.
(You have a right to ignore my recommendation or even to flame me for this post.)

It's OK, we know you're only called that because your prices are soooo low, we're merely supposed to think you're crazy.
Thank you, Jim!

Sorry. I was sick for a few days. I did finally get the porn bot spam, but a) I'm really not into censorship and b) I think people need to be accountable for what they post.
So unless it's privileged information that shouldn't be out there (or spam), I'm not going to delete it.
