Title: [OT] Yann Danis
Post by: Tub(a) on October 12, 2005, 09:24:25 PM
9th goaltender in NHL history to get a shutout in his NHL debut. 30+ saves  ::twitch::

ECAC(HL) goalies are looking good in the NHL.

Geez, Rich S will never let us live that down, and he doesn't even go to Brown.

Why would I have a problem with Danis doing well?

A rising tide lifts all boats.  If you're an ECAC player in the NHL, I root for you.

Even Nickerson.

Wont happen.  That would require actual skill.

Do you pronounce danis like dan-ee or like danish with an "s" instead of an "sh"?  cause on sportscenter they did the first one, but i always thought it was the second one.

it's nice to see that you guys are in mid-season (tasteless) form.

Looks like the people who count (NHL scouts) believe Nickerson has skills.

Either that or they believe he has 240 pounds on a 6'4" frame.

Rich, what day you pick for the St. Lawrence-Ices-Over-Solid pool? Is it still a school holiday?

I think we've given you quite a number of 'compliments' in the same style you just gave to the Faithful. You just don't look at them that way. It's all in the eye of the beholder ;-)

Well, that was the joke, see.  "Danis" doens't really rhyme with "anus".

Not really, unless you count "being big" a skill.

If you read that report, you'll note that it states: "He is good in the defensive zone, especially punishing opposing forwards along the boards and in front of the net."  Any coach can tell you that that is a skill that requires more than simply size.

Also: "His second season was improvement enough to draw scouts' attention. Not only did his offensive output increase markedly..."

Clearly the scouts thought he had enough skills and upside potential to warrant being drafted.  There are plenty of guys with size and stength alone that are never drafted.

You may not ::rolleyes:: like the guy but at least acknowledge that his attractiveness to the pros go beyond merely his size.

ben, sometimes that smilie just fits.  And "sometimes" is often when it comes to many of the comments you guys make about Clarkson folks on this board.

I've finally figured it out!  Rich S is a soap opera.

Not because he's his own long-lost twin or has bad theme music, or something... but because you could stop watching him for a year or two, then go back, and he'd be delivering exactly the same old predictable storylines and scripts.

Haha, thanks, hands down the most productive thing I've done all night.  Watching the Rangers play awesome hockey was the only other thing.  Let's Go Rangers, and of course, Let's Go Red.

The nice thing about real life is that you really can't script it quite as perfectly as it sometimes turns out.

Rich, doesn't your screen scroll all the way to bottom of the Nickerson scouting report? Just in case you're still using a 14" VGA display (prices have come down on bigger replacements) or the scroll button is broken, it ends this way:

 >>> FUTURE: Nickerson needs to improve his skating and overall fitness while developing his raw offensive talents. He must also learn to rein in his temper in certain situations there. While it can be useful to be a beast on the ice, it should be done in a way that does not hurt the team.

Thanks Bill,

And you guys talk about my sarcasm?

I am very familiar with Nickerson's plusses and minuses having seen him play more times than I expect cornell folks have.

I'm also familiar with Coach Roll's assessment, having spoken with him, and that of a current NHL GM.

I agree that his on ice behavior hurt his team a number of times, I saw it myself.

I also saw that he has "skills" besides his size as the scouting report stated.

Sounds like it's some of you guys who may have needed to read the entire report.

In short, he's basically a big guy, and while that may have helped alot at the college level, there are now other bigger guys, so that alone won't cut it.
