Title: Lynah East Tickets....
Post by: Chris \'03 on October 05, 2005, 12:07:39 AM
... are on sale now at the harvard athletics site. Why wait until the ticket office opens in the morning when you can buy online right now?

Well, that was sort of tongue-in-cheek, but I'm sure you could probably gravitate towards the Cornell/band sections.  You will be among many friends....

well,

looks like i made a mistake and somehow ordered 2 sets of 6.  I also ordered section 9, row D, 6 seats.  I emailed them to try and cancel it and will call in tomorrow...but if anyone wants these tickets instead of me trying to explain how the hell I ordered 2 sets of 6 on accident, let me know and I will just sell them to you for 6x$15.

EDIT: which section is the cornell band expected to be in?  I guess now I have seats in 20 and 9, so I'll take whichever is the more Cornell-friendly area and either try to cancel the rest of sell them to lynah faithful who are actually studying instead of wasting time online

I am also planning my first pilgrimage to Lynah East. Really glad that I get to do it before I graduate. I want some advice before I buy the tickets. I see people saying that we can easily change places, and that's good. However, I might as well buy tickets in the right spot straight off. Is there a specific section (probably sections) where Cornell fans usually sit? Where does our band sit? Which way are we attacking 1st and 3rd?

i would suggest you just purchase tickets and worry about that later.  it seems they only have sets of 2 available now....no sets of 3-6 next to each other.  maybe they will have more when the ticket office opens in the morning...who knows.

EDIT:  from what I saw last year, we pretty much take up most of the general admission seats + the designated cornell section.  i cant remember off the top of my head where that is though....but i think its safe to say any seats you get through general ticketing, you will be surrounded by a good deal of Cornell fans.

I second your suggestion.  I called the ticket office and they said they "only have a few hundred tickets for the Cornell game for sale and they will likely sell out in under an hour."

wow, only a free hundred?  Where are they all going???  anyways, i guess i wont cancel my second set of 6 since they seem to be in such short supply.  whoever wants them, just email me and we can work it out..preferably all 6 at once.

wow, only a few hundred?  thats crazy, would of expected much more for general admission.  probably some way to limit the number of tickets purchased by cornell fans and have much more going to harvard fans.

i guess i wont cancel my second set of 6 (unless Harvard limits 6 tickets per person)...whoever wants them, email me.  face value of course, but you may have to prove your lynah faithfulness if there is a huge demand.

If there are other people in your seats it will be an issue, but over half the rink is cornell fans anyway.

Harvard Sucks![/q]

Cornell fans usually sit everywhere.  The visitors section that is sold through the CU ticket office is usually Sections 14-16.  Add in the Cornell Club of Boston's seating, and most of that side (Sections 14-20) is usually CU dense.  The band has been put in section 15 most of the recent years.  Cornell's team attacks the net near Section 23 in the 1st and 3rd.  Harvard's band is in Section 10, and the Harvard students (both the weirdos in costumes and the football players looking for fights) are in Sections 11-12.

Bright does have ushers, but they generally want to avoid confrontations and interactions with us boorish types from the hinterlands.  Ticket checks usually aren't made, but if their bosses tell them to get us under control and make us sit down, they will, and usually in a rude manner.  You can always find a place to stand behind any section you please.

Edit: I just realized that this game takes place on the 10-year anniversary of Schafer's first coaching win vs. Harvard.

Looks like going to bed early for once didn't help me out, so I was only able to purchase two tickets together.  I'm hoping if I get more friends who want to come later, I'll be able to buy extras off people (or perhaps just go for the SROs that usually go on sale the week of the game).

Adult         SEC 13     J         14         $15.00
Adult       SEC 13       J       15       $15.00

I got 6 extra together in section 9 as long as they dont have a ticket limit (ordered a extra set of 6 on accident)

EDIT: looks like my 6 extra are spoken for...as long as harvard does not cancel it.

Am I a retard or did they take the tickets off their website?  I went here (http://gocrimson.collegesports.com/ot/tixmhock.html) and then clicked on the yellow ticket that says "Crimson Tickets Online," but could only saw 3 Harvard football games and the Harvard/Dartmouth hockey game on the list of available tickets.

haha...oops.  guess they are only going to have like 12 tickets to sell when they open the ticket office @ 10am.  you dont think they're going to cancel orders that were already placed right?  Somehow I could see Harvard doing that since most of these tickets seem to have gone to Cornell fans.
Title: Re: Lynah East Tickets....
Post by: DeltaOne81 on October 05, 2005, 08:52:15 AM
I don't think they will... they do have their endowment to look after ;) I'd call that a remote chance. A lowish but more possible chance is knocking off any tickets that people ordered over 6. If they have the capability to do that without tons of manual labor.

Might pay to keep an extra close eye on your email and eLF for the next few days.
Title: Re: Lynah East Tickets....
Post by: jaybert on October 05, 2005, 08:55:42 AM
yea...hopefully they would use common sense and just cancel any # over 6, and not do like ticketmaster and canceling all your orders.

that said, i looked around and did not see it mentioned anywhere there was a ticket limit of 6...only that you could only get blocks of 6.  now I'm leaning towards just keeping all 12 tickets, and selling the extra to the lynah faithful as i'm sure many were not checking the website past midnight yesterday.

Yes, I could easily see it.  After the stunt they pulled two years ago with the ticket "package," nothing would surprise me.  And they did tell the world that tickets wouldn't go on sale until 10am today.  There's already a "temporary authorization" of $30 on my credit card account, but that could easily be backed out.

Title: Re: Lynah East Tickets....
Post by: DeltaOne81 on October 05, 2005, 09:33:41 AM
I could see it, I just don't think it's all that likely. Think of it from their perspective. the were expecting to be answering phones all day today, now they come into work and half the job (the non-stuffing-envelopes part) is almost done for them.

Not exactly a great result, but to go through the effort of canceling all orders only to make their job tougher... well, it's definitely possible, which is why I said keep a close eye, but if I worked there, I'd probably rather say, 'lesson learned for next year.'

Again, anything's possible, but I wouldn't go nearly as far as to anticipate it.

Edit - I actually got through a little while ago - maybe around 10:25.

I just got through, and all they have left over the phone is scattered singles and standing room.  Sounds like the singles are going fast, though.  I got two in section 20 and one in 24 - that was as close together as I could get.

If this happenes to other people, we might want to start a "scattered singles exchange" thread so we can at least try to get people in the same sections as the rest of their group...

I purchased at the ticket window at Sucks.  They opened the window right at 10 am.  I asked the kid if I could get seats in Section 16 or 15 or so and he said.  "I have a few in section 20, or I could get you a pair in section 16".  I asked if there was anything else and he said not really.  So I took 6 in Section 20, row C.

Anyway, I said "Hey, I thought tickets went on sale just now at 10.  May I ask how the rest of the tickets are almost all sold?"  He said that it had to do with player comps, student seats, and season ticket holders.  I'm kind of surprised that they would sell that many season tickets in the visitor sections of the rink, but whatever.  ::screwy::

Every year it's something new... and I was even up until about 1:30  this morning, but stuck working and didn't get a chance to check out eLynah.  Drats.

Anyway, managed to get tickets at least.  For those of you who are wondering, I got there at 9:33 and was first in line.  There were about maybe 10 or 12 people behind me, nearly all buying for the CU game, and mostly CU fans.

Since the game is Friday this year, there is no women's game beforehand, that always afforded a good opportunity to just walk into the rink and stay for the men's game.

Well, getting Yale tickets (not quite in the same breath as Harvard) was simple: I sent Gene Nighman an email and 10 days later a ticket office-staffing student called, verified my credit card, and that was that. No pushing, no shoving. Maybe they thought I was donating more money than I'm donating.

The ticket office does say tickets for Princeton (at Princeton) are hard to come by. That is nonsense of the first order. Actually, the tickets may be sold out, but SRO seats aplenty are available. Last year we sat one row behind the Cornell bench. Try that in Ithaca.

Hillel Hoffman, I'm counting on you to show for the Princeton game. You just have to take SEPTA a few stops until you hit NJ Transit and then the Dinky Shuttle.

I live right outside of princeton and was planning on getting a bunch of friends together over break to see the game. Would it be easier for me to go through the athletics dept here or just call in to princeton itself? Went to my first hockey game there, but haven't been there since. Can't wait to see the game this year :-D

Either from Cornell or from Princeton will be fine. It's possible Princeton is sold out already or says "sold out." It's all relative: Unless Bono starts in goal ahead of whatsisname with the red kercheif, you'll find plenty of good seats. And Cornell and Harvard are the only two games where it's much more than half full. If it weren't for the occasional crack of puck hitting plexiglas, it'd be a nice place to study during the, say, Union game.

The only downside to buying through Princeton is you end up on their mailing list and get all sorts of mailings on football, squeakball, etc.  Other than that, no difference.

Last year I just showed up and bought SRO.  Nobody in the CU section cares about seat location anyway.

??? Isn't that like twice the price of a bus? You looking to make a profit or do you drive a Hummer? (or are offering them ;-)  )

bus?  there are no buses to boston (regularly like there are to NYC)....hell, if there was, I would take it.

But anyways, when there is a bus, its over $100 roundtrip.  and no, I dont drive  ahummer, but my car gets < 20mpg and takes premium

EDIT:

oh yeah, if anyone else is planning on leaving thusday, coming back sunday, I will chip in for gas + tolls and get a ride with you instead of me driving

^--- i'd actually prefer not driving

[q]But anyways, when there is a bus, its over $100 roundtrip. and no, I dont drive ahummer, but my car gets < 20mpg and takes premium[/q]Then wouldn't it make more sense to find someone who can drive you to Boston than looking for folks to ride with you?

There's a great picture in the current Car and Driver of what must be a Buckeye (or maybe Michigan State) alum's license plate.  Michigan offers a University of Michigan "theme" plate that has the state name across the top and a large, block blue "M" on a square yellow background to the left of where the plate number goes.  The number on this plate--immediately to the right of the block "M"--reads "ORONS."

Wonder if Massachusetts has "theme" plates for Harvard. ;-)

Turns out the photo of the Mini Cooper and its plates is fabricated - see http://www.cqql.net/msu-morons.htm - but the plates do actually exist.

Cornell is a team full of Canadians. The plates would say: H-OSERS.

It's a nonissue, anyway. Massachusetts doesn't have any special Harvard plates available. http://www.mass.gov/rmv/express/plates.htm Sucks probably wanted too much money for use of the letter "H."

For those of you have been to Lynah East before, how difficult is it to scalp (I'm buying, not selling) tickets outside the rink?

Probably more difficult for any other game in the league, save for Clarkson/SLU.  Walking to the rink from Harvard Square, I'm usually accosted by a steady stream of CU fans desperate for tickets who just show up hoping for a way in.

I don't suppose anybody's got tickets to this game that they suddenly realize they can't attend and are looking to sell?  Wishful thinking?

Rather than sift through 90+ messages, I'll ask here: are there probly anymore tickets left?  It turns out I might have a job interview outside of Boston that weekend and be able to wing a trip to the game.  Is there likely to still be anything left in the next week or so?

In response to FR: The game is sold out as far as buying tickets through any official channels.

Therefore, in response to SF:  I think this is now a "Ticket Exchange" matter.
