Post by: Denison 71 on September 25, 2005, 09:38:55 PM
Where were the ticket sale lines formed in 2002 & 2003 & 2004?

As I recall...

2002 - Preline formed at Biotech.  Official line moved from the Ramin Room out down the side of Bartels next to the Alumni Fields.  Mostly organized and peaceful, I believe.

2003 - Huge preline/line formed starting at Ramin and wrapped around the fences around the Alumni Fields.  Many people are turned away, despite showing up at the "official" start time of 4:30PM (or thereabouts).

2004 - Announcement of numbers being given out in the parking lot between the Alumni Fields and Tower Road.  Mad dash to get numbers nearly results in serious injuries.

Well if WVBR does not make the announcement tonight, we're in luck! WVBR goes back to its rock n roll music format on the weekdays. That won't be so bad... :)

Unless you don't like overplayed, mass-produced crappy "rock n roll." You know, the bands like Nickelback that college radio is supposed to make fun of on a regular basis (of course those college stations don't have commercials either...God forbid).  Sorry to sound so bitter, but VBR is hardly a college station by any definition (and is regularly put to shame by the tower on South Hill)...we should just sell out to Clear Channel.

What do you mean WVBR is a college radio station?  Their web site says nothing about that, and as far as I know, Cornell has no official radio station.  Maybe that would explain why they don't fit the "college radio station mold".

I don't know if WVBR was ever officially related to Cornell, but the VBR came, I believe, from the "Voice of the Big Red" (much like WHCU was the "Home of Cornell University").  It has, for a long time, been home to CU students interested in radio.

VBR is run by Cornell students interested in radio and business, and has Cornell's college radio FM license, but it is a completely financially independent non-profit corporation (unlike a certain 100% college supported station on south hill.  The reason that the has non-college content is that it has to make money to afford its license, transmitter etc. and the largest part of its audience is townies who apparently like plain rock.

For the record:

2002:  Preline started before Friday outside Ramin Room, but we were told we couldnt be on Athletics property, so early Friday the preline that stayed formed at the Biotech building.

2003:  Preline started at Biotech building and stayed there as it was broken up and reformed, ended up wrapping all the way around alumni fields until it was next to the soccer stands.
