Ok, my roommate has a DVR which she's used to record the World Ultimate (frisbee) Championships and the UPA College National Championships.
She wants to transfer them to DVD so she can watch them later and free up space on the DVR. She bought a tuner card, and the video came through fine but the audio was all screwed up. I have no other information about her system (new laptop, WinXP, that's all I know). I'll try to get specifics on the tuner card and her setup and post them here later.
I have a 1GHz Powerbook G4 with 512 MB RAM, but no video capture devices unless there's one built in that I didn't know about.
Does anyone have any advice on transferring and encoding the video? Windows or Mac solutions would be great (I don't have the time or energy to put linux on the old Win2k box next to the TV). Is there a relatively cheap and convenient way to capture the DVR feed on my Powerbook and put it on a DVD (or several DVDs)?
Thanks in advance.
which DVR does she have? If it is a newer model replaytv (possibly the same with tivo), you can pull directly from the replaytv to the computer.
This should be doable, even if she can't access the DVR directly from the PC. Details on the tuner card and the software used for the capture would help. Some of the tuner cards are pretty picky about drivers.
Thanks for the replies. I was going to ask her for all that information, but she found a software app to replace the software that came with the tuner card (apparently it's terrible) and everything seems to be working now.
Thanks again!
glad u got it working. i have been thinking about trying to do some of this as well. may try it wirelessly. we shall see :)
videohelp.com is a great site for all video and dvd related questions
cdfreaks.com - huge area for great information on all aspects of dvd authorization, burning, copying, etc.
there are some more, but that is what I could grab for now. just provided them in case you need more help :)
Thanks. I'll check it out - there was something wrong with the cuts out of commercial, and the audio got out of sync. It may not be worth fixing it - the announcers are amusing the first time through, but they're hardly important. :)
