Title: McKee going pro?
Post by: pfibiger on July 14, 2005, 02:58:14 PM
I don't want to stir up a hornet's nest, and I have no idea where this information came from, but there's discussion on an RPI thread on uscho about Mckee & Jessiman leaving for the pros. I can believe Jessiman would make that move, but I find it hard to believe that McKee would. Perhaps wishful thinking on an RPI fan's part?

since an unknown Cornell fan on Elynah clearly has more credibility than a random RPI fan on USCHO, i'll call this rumor squashed :)

Now that the NHL is close to settling their little argument, anyone care to comment/speculate on any effect this will have on college players leaving?  I'd guess that NHL GMs will have their hands full dealing with restocking their rosters and figuring out cap limits, so they won't spend much time trying to woo college players for a while.  I don't expect any further defections this summer, even for kids who get drafted this August (if that's when the draft happens).

[Reminder: McKee is NOT eligible for this year's draft, unless they change the rules significantly.]

Also, the thing that woos college players is money.  Will the money be less with the cap limit?  Will the teams be allowed to throw big sigining bonus money to circumvent the cap?

•A team-by-team salary cap and payroll of range of $21 million to $39 million for the first year.

•Total expenditure on player costs (salaries, bonuses, benefits and insurance) not exceeding 54 percent of defined hockey-related revenue. The payroll range will move up or down as revenues increase or decrease each year of the deal.

I don't think that it is based on more than a conversation with someone else of a similar ilk. Then again, if he had posted a similar rumor about an RPI player leaving, I would be concerned also. :)

Probably started with an 'article' (= their ranking) of most likely to now leave NCAA ranks on INCH.  http://insidecollegehockey.com/7Archives/Features/flightrisks_0343.htm  since NHL was back in business dated  July 13th.
