New Year's resolutions:
1) I will remember not to leave the toilet seat up.
2) I will not buy more than one CD per week.
3) I will not post any more treacly, melodramatic, overlong messages about Cornell lacrosse on eLynah.
OK, so two out of three ain't bad.
It's senior night, and a last-minute change of plans is gonna keep me from going to the game. Bollocks. Although a win tonight would help solidify Cornell's chances for a home playoff game, maybe this is one time to focus on big-picture stuff intead of the specifics of tonight's game. I hope that others will turn out to send off an amazing group of seniors. (Did anyone notice how this morning's article in the Sun about Cornell's top 25 senior athletes included four guys on the lacrosse team?) Best to let the facts speak for themselves:
Cornell's seniors won three consecutive Ivy titles (first time for Cornell since 1980-83).
In their final season, they led Cornell to the first undefeated season in Ivy League play by any team since 2001.
They qualified for the NCAA tournament two consecutive years (first time for Cornell since 1987-88) and three times in four years (first time for Cornell since 1987-89).
They actually won a few NCAA playoff games (Cornell's first playoff wins since 1988) and made it to the Elite Eight twice (losing by one goal each time) -- this is a work in progress.
They broke Princeton's 10-season consecutive Ivy title streak.
They were the first Ivy team to beat Princeton in consecutive years since Yale did it in the late 1980s.
They beat Syracuse twice in four years. (Fifth-year senior Ian Rosenberger, who was red-shirted in the 2003 season, beat Syracuse three times.)
And, of course, they overcame a lot... http://media.cornellsun.com/pages/uploaded_images/cover/sportcov.pdf
Do not make 3 a recurring resolution. I appreciate the long posts about lax and I'm sure that I'm not the only one.
I wholeheartedly agree. Keep 'em coming (let's hope you get to post a few more!).

There's a live video link for the Hobart game on the Cornell athletics main page. Please don't post this on LaxPower and the like.
Anyone have any luck with the video yet? The audio has started, but the video still tells me 'an error occurred'. Gonna have another fiasco like the Princeton game?

I just get a box that pops up saying "Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server. The server name might not be correct, the server might not be available, or your proxy settings might not be correct."
Very frustrating. No audio using the streaming video connection, just the box.
Hobart opens up the scoring, almost 10 minutes in, 1-0 Hobart
Are you listening or watching?
listening, no video yet, I keep trying. I send feedback about their bull, but if they cared they wouldn't keep screwing us over repeatedly
End of the 1st, 1-0 (what is this, hockey? ;) )
Sounds like Valenti is playing out of his mind. Can't last.
2-0 Hobart
Lotta turnovers both ways, not a ton of shots, that's the feeling I'm getting...
Cornell gets the faceoff
Haswell from Nee! 4:31 into the 2nd quarter
2-1 Statesmen
then Greenhalgh into the empty cage!! 2-2!! Hobart won the faceoff, Greenhalgh stole it back and fired it from afar
Nee from Belisle on the transition! 3-2 Red! 5:17 remaining in the 1st half
Cornell wins the faceoff
This Cornell team is simply amazing at fast-break transitions.
wish I could see it for myself ;) :-P

You're not alone. It sure was fun to watch in Providence.
Redd!!! (with a rocket, naturally ;) )
4-2 Cornell
Hobart runs out of time with the ball, 4-2 Red at the half
under way in the 2nd half and Clayton drives one home just :54 in!
5-2 Cornell, and the Red win the faceoff again
Hobart responds in transition, ending Cornell's 5 goal run, 5-3 Cornell
and there's Boloukus! :) 6-3 Red, 26th of the season for Joe
Hobart takes the faceoff
McMonagle solid, a few saves there, Cornell get possession
5:00 left in the 3rd quarter
Rosenberger from Greenhalgh! 7-3 Cornell
"that was beautiful lacrosse, motion, motion, motion, score"
Greenhalgh moves to solo possession of 5th overall in career points
Cornell gets the first man-up of the game
Hobart answers, 7-4, 2:46 left in the 3rd
Boloukus! on the man up, 8-4 Red
end of the 3rd, Cornell will start the 4th with the ball
Given that the game is being played under the lights, I'm impressed by the color and fidelity of the video.
[Edit] Ignore post. Mistakenly linked to a rerun of Baywatch. Still no Cornell game on video.
bill you tease ;)
Casey Lewis! 9-4 Cornell

Sheesh. You had me reaching for the hammer and pliers. ::help::
Hobart won't go away, 9-5 now
Cornell wins the faceoff, 8:10 remaining
Expecting to see a more leisurely pace at this point.
Casey Lewis to Greenhalgh! 10-5 Cornell advantage
Cornell definitely using clock when they get possession, but Greenhalgh open on that one
Cornell gets possession on a push, 6:00 left
McMonagle with another save as we hit the 3 minute mark, timeout Cornell with 2:55 left
[Q]DeltaOne81 Wrote: bill you tease ... Casey Lewis! 9-4 Cornell[/q]But imagine how bad the opposite would be: only being able to get an audio feed of Baywatch.
2 minutes left as Hobart gets their first man-up opportunity
I was just about to write that we were playing a penalty-free game.
Miller in goal for the wrap-up.
Announcers just remarked they're doing a Webcast as well as radio and audio feed. Somebody ought to IM them, or something.

Is it possible there are so many people tuned in from the dorms that there's no room for the rest of us?
Hobart can't convert on the man-up, 1 minute left as Cornell gets the ball back

Anyone in the dorms is sleeping off slope day. No way I believe it.
And that's the game! 10-5
Cornell finishes the season with a convincing with over Hobart and an 8 game win streak
I don't believe that there are many people even in the dorms as today
was springfest.
Fred, you beat me about springfest.
Hobart announcers: "Cornell the most complete package we've seen this year--looking at both offense and defense."
Some early finals of note:
Albany 16, Stony Brook 7
Ohio State 8, Army 7 ::uhoh::
Princeton 13, Brown 4

I thought it was gonna be in between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m.
If someone finds out, please post the bracket. At the moment in my household, ABC programming has me "Desperate Housewhipped."
it's on CSTV right now
That's the women's and DII and DIII, I believe.
Div I just came on ESPN News
CSTV was definitely the Men's D-I too
What are the pairings? Can anyone post them? ::help:: ::help::
So far two brackets in:
Marist at Johns Hopkins
Syracuse at Massachusetts
Albany at Virginia
Delaware at Navy
VERY interesting...looking like Army for us?
We will be coming up in a moment ... my guess is that Maryland gets the 6 seed, Cornell gets #7.
By the way, I'm getting this info from the ESPN News online live feed -- a link is available here: http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/index?mode=news
Whoa! Curveball:
The next bracket announced was...
Penn State at Maryland
Army at Georgetown
We play @ #7 Towson.
And here is Cornell's bracket. Oh my god.
Fairfield at Duke
Cornell AT Towson
Yes, Cornell AT Towson. Did I hear that right?
Well, I forgot the #3 seed was left ... and we are UNSEEDED and have to travel to TOWNSON!!!! What a crock!
And we thought getting sent to Minnesota was a hose job; this is pathetic.
I can't believe Dartmouth didn't get an at-large bid.
Does that mean we play AT duke in the 2ndround?
It's upsetting that Cornell has to travel.
But it could be worse. I'd rather play at Towson than host Syracuse.
no that means we play duke at princeton in the qf's if we beat towson
[Q]JT Wrote:

2nd round is neutral site, no?
I think we were headed to Princeton if we win.
[Q]JT Wrote:

No, the quarterfinals are played at two neutral sites: Princeton and Johns Hopkins. The audio feed didn't reveal where CU's bracket would be sending its winners, but I'd guess Princeton.

Yeah, we'd go to Princeton. The video showed that.
What it shows is they followed the criteria--flawed though it may be--just as they laid it out. Dartmouth's RPI and strength-of-schedule were just too low.
Okay, but what about the quality wins? Which is either the *only* criteria, or the primary criteria? How did they match up there, how did we?
[Q]Al DeFlorio Wrote:

Yeah. Although those two criteria (RPI and SOS) are allegedly tertiary and secondary, right? I figured that Dartmouth's wins against Maryland, Notre Dame, etc. would get them in the tourney, and the latter stuff would keep 'em unseeded.
... to be a Towson player. Imagine getting a #7 seed and having to face the #3 team in the country. That's gotta hurt! I wonder if they'll drive up watch us play Duke in round 2.
As an side, I was watching us beat Harvard in the ECAC title game at a sports bar in Chapel Hill, NC and Coach Tambroni was there enjoying the game aa few tables away. How funny seeing him there, but nice to see him supporting the icers.
I'm confused. Towson doesn't even have any quality wins. They have LOSSES to three teams in the top 5 RPI (Hopkins, UVA, UMD) and one in the top 15 (Delaware). I'm genuinely expecting to hear that this was a typo or something.

Neither of these "rankings" are part of the NCAA's criteria. Check RPI and strength-of-schedule rankings--which are part of the NCAA criteria--here:

It does not appear that Towson has any top 15 quality wins. Very interesting seeding.
http://216.50.65.17/RPI_Quality_Wins.htm
Towson beat #15 and #16 as far as I can see (Delaware and Hofstra), but it doesn't seem those would overcome #6 and #14 (Syracuse and N.D.), now does it?
*This*, ladies and gentlemen, is why a system like PWR, flawed as it may be, beats back room smoke and mirror hands down, any day. I really think, as a friend of mine has said, the "Princeton was no good this year, so the Ivies must suck" factor explains this.
You can say they went on RPI, but then how do you explain Dartmouth's royal screw job? #13 in RPI, clearly #13 or better in quality wins, and no bid. It's the good old boys in the backroom giving it to their friends Syracuse and the southern crowd. You can use whatever logic you want, they do what they want.
To be fair, we maybe didn't deserve a home game last year, so we could say that it evens out, but doing things wrong twice don't make it fair.
Rich and I have come to the conclusion that our bracket is winnable, and therefore we shouldn't worry about it. :-D
Glad I finally got online and got the real results of the game. I picked up the Globe on Saturday morning, anxiously looked for the lax scores, and there it was:
Hobart 5 - Cornell 1 (with no write-up)
I couldn't believe it. How could our boys have been so outplayed that they scored only 1 goal?
Whew. What relief to come here and get the real story.
But still, we're unseeded and have to go to Towson? Maybe the committee saw the 5-1 score and believed it as well. Then again, maybe #7 is in for a little comeuppance.
LGR!!
