:27 seconds into the game, Mercyhurst scores on first shot of the game on a 2-1.
Mercyhurst pressuring, nice pad save by Schneider
Two good opportunites by Mercyhurst top player Champagne
Completely blown play by the BC defender! Mercyhurst forward knocked the puck off of the board around the defender causing a 2 on 1....the lone BC defender got caught in no mans land and the BC goalie was stuck playing the shot and not the pass and one time shot.
The place looks empty
1-1
Pat Gannon (freshman for BC) ties it up at 1-1
BC weathers some pressure and cherry picks the break out. The [sarcasm]thousand fans[/sarcasm] attending go crazy
keep the updates coming! 45 minutes til i leave work for the airport!
Wow, Mercyhurst is a small school in Erie, PA. They don't have a pep band so they called up Holy Cross asking them where they could hire a pep band...Holy Cross gave them a name of a high school and the HS pep band (sorry, can't recall their name--edit: Shrewsbury) is there playing in Mercyhurst uniforms (apparently Mercyhurst doesn't have a fight song either)...cool!
Mercyhurst is keeping the pressure...but looks absolutely confused in the defensive end.
BC takes an interference penalty on what I thought was contact to the head on Mercyhurst....
And now 5x3 for Mercyhurst on a slashing/tripping call!!! Wow.
2-1 now, MC... on the 5x3
Wide open in the slot on the 5x3!!!!
:-O
I'm at work, so I can't listen to the game. Does anyone know which of BC's injured players have been cleared to play?
Keep the updates coming! I really appreciate it!!
Hooking on Mercyhurst on a breakaway....BC took the puck right off of the defenders stick on the 5 on 4...no penalty shot...
Mercyhurst gets a shorty opp but it doesn't develop
4 on 4 then BC will go on powerplay
Eaves is playing, not sure about the rest
BC can't get anything going on the PP...8:40 left in the 1st...Mercyhurst is offside on the 2 on 1 created when the penalty ends and the Mercyhurst player exited the box
penalty against mercyhurst
Holding on Mercyhurst when a BC player is pinned up against the boards away from the puck...good call but a very tight call
beautiful one two play on the powerplay through the slot...Boyle makes it 2-2
Score BC ...... andrew alberts to joe rooney to brian boyle who scores
Time on that goal?
Great goal by Boyle, this guy has been playing awesome since the Everblades.
Don't expect an upset here...Mercyhurst is playing inspired hockey but the skill gap is incredible. BC came out very, very flat.
7:12 left to go in the first period so I'm guessing around the end of the 12th minute.
I'm switching over to the CC/Colgate game...sorry!
4 on 4 for two minutes...didn't see what happened...2:45 left in the first
Mercyhurst takes a slashing penalty with 2:15 left in the period making it a 4 on 3 for BC
34 seconds left and BC scores five hole on the 4x3
Another penalty with 8 seconds left!!!
This time on BC...here's to hoping they call it tight in Minneapolis!!
BC kills the PP at the start of the second...
BC takes a hooking penalty trying to control the Mercyhurst forechecker chasing after the dump.
16:16 left in the second, 3-2 BC, Mercyhurst on the 5x4
3-3 PPG
Mercyhurst misses a wide open upper right corner from the slot when the shot goes flying over the bar and then the rebound is circled around to the slot and Mercyhurst deflects it in.
Holy crap! That's more than we scored against BC.
MC pp sounds great.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ESPNU will carry Atlantic Hockey coverage next year. Hmm.

Where can I sign up?! :-P ESPN really didn't want to buy CSTV after they bought Classic from the same people
we're half way in and Mercyhurst is still putting up a fight!
Mercyhurst has some stick handlers and their hearts are huge but their skating is something to be desired...
4-3 BC
BC scores with a few seconds left in their PP on a delayed call...ugly, ugly rebound left by the Mercyhurst goalies leg pad right in front of a wide open goal...
9:20 left in the second
BC now on a 2 minute power play after the goal finished the first PP...too bad
Mercyhurst goalie is slow getting over and BC misses a wide open net...nice glove save on a shot from the point...a minute left on the BC PP
Mercyhurst comes up on the luck side when the Mercyhurst goalie gives up all sorts of rebounds. The play is topped off by the Mercyhurst goalie falling on his stomach and a BC player shooting the puck into his helmet or shoulder. Mercyhurst is fortunate to keep the score at 4-3 as the penalty expires
BC scored at some point but I missed it...2nd period is about to end and BC is dominating

I swear, no anti-woofing...Mercyhurst brings the puck up on a 3 on 2, looked offsides, put the puck on net, Schneider gave up a nasty rebound as players crashed the net, and the puck slipped in. a minute left in the 2nd
and Mercy scores.. 5-4.. maybe 1 minute of possesion time for the period
Mercyhurst scores with :58 seconds left 2nd period - Now 5-4 BC
I think Mercyhurst deserves a

Where can they rent one? :-P ;-)
Shots are 39-13 BC.
The Laker announcers are far less objectionable than a lot of broadcasters I've heard. Good game so far. I'd love to see Mercyhurst somehow pull this off.
And we're back
game on tv here on adelphia. hurst on the PP for a slashing penalty. go hurst!
Mercyhurst off the post on a shorthanded breakaway!
Mercyhurst starting goalie out due to injury. A little less than 4 minutes to go. 5-4 B.C.
How many times is BC going to forget about the guy coming out of the box? ::screwy::
At least one more, hopefully...
Mercyhurst starting goalie back in.
Late B.C. penalty - B.C. radio guys don't like the call, but they rarely do...
PP Mercyhurst
Penalty killed - 1:35 to go. 5-4 B.C.
Mercyhurst has really been in this all the way. Granted, the shots are 58-20 (!), but the Lakers have had plenty of good chances turned away, too.
5 BC players in their own goal trying to keep the puck out...what a fun game!
What a fight by Mercyhurst! 58-22 shots in favor of BC
Game. 5-4 B.C.
Final, 5-4. Lakers had a half dozen great chances in the last minute, spurred by Champagne (the kid who won their tourny, IIRC), but couldn't quite net the tying goal.
Mercyhurst is the only team to score 4 goals on BC this year.
Great Job by Mercyhurst though
Boo. While I didn't expect Mercyhurst to win, I would have laughed my ass off on USCHO if they had. This just goes to show that you can't underestimate any team come tournament time.
Cheers,
Kyle
Everyone's right... Mercyhurst is a joke and doesn't deserve to be there...
In honor of RichS: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes:: ::rolleyes::

Lowell did it on 2/19 at home, 4-1.

Damn straight I did.
(Gotta stick that joke in every once in a while.)
Announcers made reference to the Colorado College - Colgate game and one point noted how Colgate may well have the best goalie in the nation.
At another point they noted how Colgate has a lot to prove because they won the ECAC championship last year but didn't get to the NCAAs. That must be the Clarkson-favorite championship: regular season.

To be fair, the regular season winner does in fact now get a cup; at the time Clarkson fans were bitching, winning the regular season meant approximately dick.
FWIW, what happened to that rivalry while I was comatose in grad school? I recall the Clarkson rivalry being the most intense during my years ('94-98) and I developed a lot of respect for their program. Recently, however, it seems they are mediocre, and overly physical in comparison to their skill level. Maybe this deserves its own thread. ::uptosomething::

From the number of penalties in the first two games, is this any indication that the refs will be calling a lot on us because we're rough around the boards?
