Anyone have any good ideas for signs in Albany? Any good Vermont goons to make fun of? Thanks for suggestions!! :-)
vermont goons...
let's see...elephant walk to start off with.
http://www.muttonbone.com/ might also be appropriate for them. this was floating around section B their first full season after the hazing, please refer to http://www.uscho.com/news/1999/12/11_000848.php for anyone who doesn't remember, or maybe just want to relive the memories.
and then of course, anything witty in regards to leaving the ecac...maybe a large "see ya!...you goons!" sign in general
"See ya Vermont! You Goon!" is a sign I've made but I'm not sure if I'm going to bring it. I'd rather bring Pro-Cornell signs like 2003.

Doh...for the record I made my sign last night :-)
Print up signs that say "Go Vermont" with a bunch of elephants walking on it. Ignorant UVM people will think it's pro-UVM, neutral people will be befuddled, but all in the know will kow what it means. But whatever it is, you have to have some "elephant walk" reference.
I'm printing out very large pictures of elephants (MS Word clip art). I'll be in Section 115... look for the sign!!! French Rage, thanks for the idea!
can you do elephants with their trunks holding on to the tail in front of them?

Gotta be come clip art of that somewhere.
well, there's "Elephant Walk Home"
also, "ecac rejects" (though they're the ones who chose to leave, so that's a bit hazy)
i was thinking about "Pussy Cats" but didn't know the level of appropriateness
i plan to have my "Lynah Middle East" sign for the weekend, and a large hyphen on a poster as well.
for the lynah east game, the girlfriend made a "we had sex in high school"/"you had your hand in high school" doublesided sign which we never ended up bringing out due to the many children around us (and the loss), and unfortunately made its way into the trash can after we left the game
'ack and that group should def. bring the "heimlich/choking" sign that they had for the harvard home game this year. definitely one of the best signs i've ever seen.

hmmm...every team cornell plays is a bunch of goons?
There was once a sign at Placid that said "Hey St. Lawrence, if you can spell 'safety school,' we might let you in." It got torn down, drawing the retaliatory destruction of an SLU sign that apparently one of the players' moms had made. Someone handed me a piece of that SLU sign after they tore it down, and I have it to this day!

ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
http://www.collegehockeystats.net/0405/confstats/ecachlm
edit: so it is clear what I am getting at
Penalty Minutes: Games PIM PIM/G
1 Clarkson 22 402 18.3
2 Yale 22 391 17.8
3 Vermont 22 371 16.9
4 Union 22 358 16.3
5 St. Lawrence 22 349 15.9
6 Harvard 22 338 15.4
7 Rensselaer 22 334 15.2
8 Dartmouth 22 328 14.9
9 Princeton 22 316 14.4
10 Brown 22 315 14.3
11 Colgate 22 307 14.0
12 Cornell 22 300 13.6
Yeah I get it so by your definition, since cornell is the least penalized team in the league (how did THAT happen....lol) every other team are goons?
Fact is that taking a lot of penalties does not automatically make you a "goon"...one needs to consider the type of penalties taken.
Maybe you should make your signs say "Undisciplined"...that's likely to be more accurate and also more befitting your "Ivy" education...lol
[Q] hmmm...every team cornell plays is a bunch of goons?[/Q]
Yes
hey wait...why would anyone going to college in the NC prefer to do so in Ithaca?
::laugh::
Rich, the fact that all other teams are Goons is simply because we are cornell fans, therefor we have a biased opinion. it is my observation that you seem to think lowly of our team, maybe because you are a clarkson fan?

Your observation is incorrect. I have a lot of respect for the team which plays hard, smart, disciplined hockey. That's how I believe the game should be played and how I coach youngsters to play. It's how Clarkson always played until a few seasons ago.
It's the attitude of many of the cornell fans I "think lowly of".
Sounds like it's an immutable law of science...err....hockey!
[Q]RichS Wrote:

I actually think this is just a case of the reference being lost in translation. Rich, the "See ya, Vermont...you goon!" is just a reference to the Lynah cheer as an opposing skater is being sent to the penalty box: "Aahhhhhh....SEE YA!! You Goon!" We'd say that if the great-grandson of Lady Bing was sent to the box.
[Q]Maybe you should make your signs say "Undisciplined"...that's likely to be more accurate and also more befitting your "Ivy" education...lol[/q]
I was under the impression that "lol" was used as a response for humor. Not to point out how clever one thinks one is being.
tasteless or not, the SLU(t) safety school sign may or may not have been my doing ::laugh::
[Q]RichS Wrote:

Are you effing kidding me? Is this a serious question?
Dude, unbunch the panties and repeat after me: it's only a game, it's only a game, it's only...
Next thing you know RichS will be informing us that many goals are actually not the opposing goaltenders fault, that a sieve is usually metallic and a goalie is not and therefore a goalie cannot be a sieve, and that we must all be biased, inconsiderate Cornell fans for implying such offensive things.
"So if she floats, she's made of wood..."
"... and therefore ...?? "
"A WITCH!"
[Q]RichS Wrote:

No, just Clarkson.
That's hilarious, really...but at odds with other answers of your brethren.
You guys need to get your "facts" straight before Albany.

You go after goon and not the elephants? Geez.
Rich, it's a CHEER that we do at Lynah. You've been around a lot longer than me...
Anyways, the stat is not number of penalties, it is penalty in minutes.
Here's another stat for ya:
Clarkson 170 penalties 402 minutes 2.364 minutes/penalty
Princeton 136 316 2.324
Dartmouth 142 328 2.310
Union 160 358 2.238
SLU 158 349 2.209
Vermont 165 361 2.187
RPI 154 334 2.169
Cornell 139 300 2.158
Harvard 157 338 2.153
Yale 186 391 2.102
Brown 152 315 2.072
Colgate 152 307 2.020
Infer what you will.
A lot of penalties doesn't always mean "undisciplined"...it also can mean "unable to defend"...
Bottom Line: Is Vermont a bunch of John Chaney's Goons? No. But it works well for a sign, meshes with a cheer, points out Vermont takes a lot of penalties, and makes me smile.
Rich, I like having you around here. Are you entertained yet? ;-)

Bored tonight, RichS? Maybe Goldie Knight took a night off from saying how wonderfully-iddily-iffic and noble absolutely everything and everyone associated with Clarkson University is and how horribly wretched and evil all other institutions are?
have at it … infer whatever you like it … good luck with your signs

Nah...even you guys know that much. But you lost me with "we much all be ...."
Its called a typo, Rich, and its only two letters off... "we must all be..."
it's alright fred, he's got a great view from his glass house::rolleyes::
Yup, taking me to task for my typo in the post where he screws up the formatting of the quoting. If that's not a perfect analogy for what RichS brings to this board, I don't know what is.
Is there any button I can press to make RichS' posts not show up? ::screwy::
Regular Season Champs ... Not Done Yet!
What about that quote coach Schaffer had shortly after the announcement of the move, something along the lines of them automatically moving up 2 places, from 12th to 10th (though they've actually had a good season).
Bend it like Becker
Becker is a pecker (eh, cheer material)
Driver drives the bus (maybe a better cheer than sign)
Fallon = Beaver reject (he's from Bemidji)
Fallon's GAA > his GPA
FEMenella
We're spending four years on the Hill, your Hill is spending four years on the bench
Cornell = 4 years on THE hill
UVM's Hill = 4 years on the bench
Don't worry Hill, lots of people have no talent
(always fun to pick on the 3rd strings)
Lutz is a klutz (again, probably a better cheer than sign)
For Macaulay either a Home Alone reference or a "Findlay club team > Vermont DI" sign
Save a tree, PLANT a Catamount
Go Red, PLANT the Catamounts
Wicked Smaht
Wicked Smart
Smart at UVM, oh the irony
Myers, who's your daddy? (he's from south boston)
Also, perhaps the pep band can learn the Meow Mix tune. I like chicken, I like liver...
Or to the tune of Hit the Road, Jack: "Hit the road 'Cats, and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more".

i didn't see the sign, but that's pretty amusing
i remember a harvard sign incident with a small harvard contingent with nike "go harvard" signs. cornell people took them and added "home" to say "go home harvard." moderate violent confrontation ensued.

I second the motion for an "Ignore RichS" feature :-D
We had a similar incident with Providence in '81.
The Providence fans were directly opposite us at the Gahden. They had a big sign running along the upper deck that said "Go Friars, Beat Cornell". I took a piece of cardboard I had for impromptu signs, wrote "Off" on it in big block letters, and went up there and hung it over the word Cornell.
It didn't last long, but the cheer from the Faithful was priceless.
I've always been fond of a "Mount the Cats" sign myself.
That's in the hunting-trophy sense, right Jeff?? ::laugh::
He are some cheer and sign ideas from 2004

edit: pretty bare...best idea was:
"Vermont Catmounts to Nothing" from Mike, I believe
How about... An Elephant Never Forgets
(http://www.cartoonstock.com/lowres/ato0061l.jpg)
With plenty of feline references, how about more 'mount-ing references? Perhaps elephants?
Yeah, yeah...that's what I meant ::rolleyes::
I mean, what else could I possibly be referring to? ::nut::
RichS,
Thank you for your posts. eLF hasn't been this animated since Facetimer received the blah blah blah treatment last year. :-}:-}
You guys don't like a little rebuttal, eh?
Tsk tsk...it's the real world.
But really, I'm flattered. :-D
Yeah, no kidding, I make plenty myself. And I'm not at all touchy when some one razzes me about it. You on the other hand....???

Oh really now Delta, you're being a tad touchy, eh?
I screwed up the formatting. Ouch you hurt me. ::laugh:: I'm not trying to be perfect here and I think you guys goit the gist of it.
I think I bring a fair amount of knowledge of the game to this forum, and definitely sans the Carnellian colored glasses a lot of you wear. That's some view you have from the "Ivy tower".
we are searching for the heimlich signs as i speak...though i won't make it to albany i would be honored if my friends could take the signs in my place :-D
oceans, good work
[Q]Andy Wrote:

how about we save this for whichever regional Harvard makes it to...if by the heimllich sign, that's who you're thinking of. they do a good job of choking there...not so much in the ecacs of my recent memory.
thought of another one
weekend update: fallon sucks.
[Q]A-19 Wrote:

That's accurate in so many ways :-D
"uvm seniors like beer-battered hot dogs!"
"keep your hands to your own trunk!"
"holding the stick on uvm!"
"uvm, watch out for the hockey east hazing"
a little bit of off the wall references to the hazing incident...

You should bring that cleverly made comma with you as well. That seemed to draw a lot of attention.
Also, what about the "Donato how to coach" sign?
jimmy Fallon, SNL grew up in Saugerties, New York. Roughly an hours drive south.
Jumping the gun to possible Hahvad taunts:
You lost to teenagers.
They may not be able to buy porn, but they can score on you.
But you may have to explain it to them :)
A pro-Cornell, pro-CNY sign that I'm not going to use...
Cornell...Moulson
Syracuse...Warrick
Vermont...No Chance!

Maybe something about "Time to shave the beards" .....?
"Go get the clubs. Go get the clubs"
