Title: OT LAX: Cornell lacrosse at Army
Post by: Hillel Hoffmann on March 12, 2005, 01:08:03 PM
It's 1-1 early in the first quarter from West Point. Greenhalgh scored on first CU possession, USMA then reciprocates. Cornell already 0 for 3 on FOs.

McMonagle makes save on Army's big gun, Walker, and Cornell clears ... then soph Clayton scores from Boulukos. Joe's second assist?! CU loses ANOTHER faceoff.

Walker scores on the extra-man opportunity. It's 2-2. Cornell finally gets FO thanks to an illegal procedure call.

Boulukos scores on a bounce shot that "overpowers" (as per Borkan) the USMA goalie. 3-2 Cornell. Cornell wins possession off FO.

And boom, Nee scores on a crank for a two-goal lead. Army calls timout.

FOs looking mighty ugly. Army wins possession after CU wing man forced OB.

Army second-line midfielder scores when matched up with short stick, 4-3 CU.

Thanks for the updates, Hillel.  Can you tell who's marking Walker?

Faceoffs killed us against Navy last year.

Possessions exchanged.

Matt Robbins, CU SSM from Illinois I think, is playing on clears.

And Wagner, Army's OTHER big gun, scores from Walker, and it's all even at 4.

A fast first quarter.

Wagner scores immediately off the FO as Cornell scrambles to settle.

Nee scores on EMO after Army flagged for 30-sec technical.

And yet another illegal procedure call on Army -- it's the only way we're winning draws.

Is this WHCU's backup announcing team? Other than being homers, they're not too bad.

Jason Weinstein did the game last week, I'm not sure if he'll be a regular once the hockey conflicts are over.

I got it from a link on the Army Lacrosse website -- sorry I didn't bring this to everyone's attention earlier!

Got the link at CSTV.  Cornell didn't bother to put it on their web site. :-(

Sounds like we needed a wake-up call sometime in the second period.  This will put a lot of pressure on the UNC, Syracuse, and Princeton games.

11-9 final.  Disappointing for sure.

Well, this is lacrosse, so as long as Army doesn't end up being a "quality" program the loss won't hurt us. ::rolleyes::

No, Barry Leonard (play by play) and Howie Borkan (color) are the top lax team -- Weinstein's gig last week was the anomaly. Leonard is great. He has been the voice of Cornell lax since the 1990s ... and a voice of Cornell hoops and other sports for more than a decade.

I didn't listen long enough to figure out who had John Walker (the son of former NY Jet wideout Wesley Walker). With Walker and Jim Wagner (four goals against CU), that's a tough group to handle. Cornell's going to have a rough time with any team that brings two good, versatile attackmen.

Cornell hasn't had a reliable FO guy since Addison Sollog graduated. Groan.
