Beautiful. Not much question that CC and Denver are the top two teams in college hockey after this weekend. Although Cornell is hardly under the radar at this point, them being at 3 or 4 is fine.

You're probably right. I just hate to see Cornell go down in both polls after winning out the season.

I'm not the least bit surprised. Cornell's jump in the polls last week was largely possible because of ColCol's week off (and Denver's split with SCSU).
If Cornell sweeps the ECAC's I suspect they'll be #1 or #2 in the final poll, depending on the WCHA tournament results. If they lose once in Albany (or this weekend) they'll probably jump down to #5-7. If they lose the series this weekend they'll drop to about #10.
Regardless, the polls are just for fun. Cornell has pretty much secured at least a #3 seed in the NCAA's. What's important right now (and for the rest of the season) is winning the next game.
What a joke. Have any of you guys noticed for the past month CC and denver have been splitting the series. They will always win one loose one. And you have a team who hasnt lost in 14 games as a #2 or #3 team in the nation. Rediculous. And cornell has secured alot higher than a #3 seed in the ncaa tournament. They have secured atleast a #2 and are very likely to receive a #1 with success in the ECAC's.

Well, to be fair, we didn't beat Anybody this past weekend. ;-)
Sorry Mike, I've gotta agree with everybody else. Cornell has been on a great run, but the only team that is currently in the NCAA's (according to bracketology on USCHO.com) is Dartmouth. Both CC and Denver have played and beaten much better teams than Cornell in that stretch. And I also have to agree with only securing a 3 or 4 seed so far (even if they lose this weekend). A trip to Albany would secure them as the last 2 or a 3 seed, a trip to the finals gets them a definite 2 seed, maybe a 1 seed, and a win just about guarantees a 1 seed as 3 of the top 5 teams in the country all play in the WCHA and not all of them can win that tournament.

CC and Denver have played much tougher schedules than Cornell and quite frankly are more worthy of higher standing in the useless poll than Cornell is. Cornell hasn't proven nearly as much as they have simply because they haven't played the schedule they have. What does it mean for the ultimate outcome of the NCAA's? It means nothing.
your right minnasota state is real good. Denver lost to them and CC tied. Not too impressive. CC also lost to st. cloud state at home. I dont care how easy your schedule is. To go out there and win 14 games straight is very hard to do. Especially going through teams like colgate dartmoth and vermont. Look at the INCH rankings they actually know what there talken about.
Playing decent and better teams every game and they are expected to win every time out? What Cornell has done being unbeaten in 14 is very impressive. But if they had played the same schedule in their last 14 that Denver or CC has, they wouldn't be unbeaten in that time, even if they are as good as we hope they are.

Hehe. Very true. Then again, we didn't lose to anybody either. I have much to learn from you and your "don't sweat the small stuff" approach to college hockey. :)
To that end... As Ken and many others have said, the polls are just for fun anyway. As such, I'm now pleasantly indifferent to this latest development.

Well, Cornell lost to Michigan St., and Michigan St. isn't exactly tearing it up this year. You can't take the results of one or two games to define a team's season. 14 games unbeaten is impressive. Is it better than going 10-4 against better teams? That's why there's a tournament at the end of the year.

it's interesting to note the USCHO/CSTV voters seem to split along #1/#5 (aka vote the PWR) while the USA Today seems to vote #1/#3 much more in keeping of polls predicting success rather than past performance (or western bias ;-)). that said knowing full well polls are useless toys for the uninformed fan ... and we're right were we should be not too high, not too low, but juuuust right.
On one hand, you shouldn't drop if you are idle and the teams around you lose. OTOH, Cornell probably shouldn't have been 1(t) last week. On the third hand, it just doesn't matter. T(itle) minus 8 wins and counting.

Didn't Anybody beat Brom and split with Aquafresh?
We're 5th in the PWR and that's all that really matters, even though it's fun to tell people (those few who know that college hockey exists) that your alma mater is #1 or 2 in the polls.
If Schafer were asked about it, I'll bet he would say we're a top 10 or maybe top 5 team and exactly how high we should be will be decided on NCAA playoff ice.
