Title: 3/6 (Sunday) ECAC playoffs
Post by: jtwcornell91 on March 06, 2005, 12:57:29 PM
So I presume we'll all be found on #lynah tonight following the Union-Clarkson and Dartmouth-Yale rubber games.

Clarkson Audio: http://streamingmedia.clarkson.edu/ http://streamingmedia.clarkson.edu:8000/

Dartmouth Video: http://www.dartmouth.edu/%7Emhockey/webcast/ http://quicktime.dartmouth.edu/hockey_stream.mov

Yes, Dartmouth video is free.

Don't get too happy. Unless you have a monster connection the video sucks. I'm under the impression that it streams around 3 to 4 MEGAbits per second. Maxing out my 1.5 Mbps DSL connection game me less than a frame per second.

I agree that the video sucks. But for me it worked as a nice supplement to the audio that I was getting at the same time when I watched them play Harvard, while simultaneously listening to us come from behind to beat Saint Lawrence. I am not as familiar with the names of the 40 players that play for Dartmouth and whoever they are playing. I expect others here may be in a similar boat. So, even at one frame per second, or less, having that visual image helped me have more of a clue than I would have if I had to only listen to the audio.

For the Harvard @ Dartmouth game last weekend, it was poor...typically about 2-3 frames/sec.  This weekend, the video has been superb, probably on the order of 10-20 fps.  Of course, with our Ivy hopes on the line, many more people were probably watching the H-D game than the Y-D games of this weekend, and therefore choking the bandwidth.

So yes...you should all give up on the video tonight and use audio.  :-D

OTOH, there might be differences amng us in rooting interest tonight.  Hard to believe it would be bad for Cornell for Yale to win, but in the other series, there are pro-Cornell arguments for either antagonist.

My rooting interest: Yale and Clarkson
My prediction: Dartmouth 6-1, Clarkson 2-1 (ot)

I think we're better off facing Union than Clarkson.  While it would be great to complete our revenge for last year, I worry than Clarkson might goon it up, and we'll lose a player either to injury or DQ.  Also, I think they have a better chance of pulling off an upset than Union, who would be playing in the QFs for the first time if I'm not mistaken.

I agree with your predictions.

I'm less worried by Clarkson this year because the syphilis-carrying baby- eater can't come to Lynah regardless of tonight's outcome.  That said, GO UNION.

Anyone else want to drive all- out with me from I-town to Schenectady right now and chant 'end of season' at Clarkson should they loose?

Yup, it had sound.

And my problem wasn't the other server being overloaded. My connection routinely benchmarks at pretty much exactly 1.5 mbps, and the Quicktime stream said the data was actively streaming at 1400 to 1500 kbps. So it was my connection that was the limit - even though its over 4 times fast enough to handle XMI, MTB.TV, etc . I may try again today, but I don't expect any difference.

To be fair, I believe its their Spring break. But yeah, that's still pretty bad.

And yes, we'll definitely post scores when there are any to report. Both games scoreless at the moment. Dartmouth had a great up-close 2 on 1 attempt but missed a pretty open net. Hard to see the details since you definitely can't see the puck on this feed.

Is it safe to say that another loss to Yale would blow Dartmouth's NCAA chances?  Or could they still back in with favorable results elsewhere?

Title: Re: 3/6 (Sunday) ECAC playoffs
Post by: A-19 on March 06, 2005, 08:33:01 PM
i wouldn't mind playing yale at all. then again, DC losing make it much more probable that #4 vermont will make the ECAC semis in albany, having to play much easier competition. if we win, as #1 we would play the lowest remaining seed in albany. and if we assume that harvard or colgate take care of business also, we're stuck playing vermont. on the other hand, if DC wins, they may also beat vermont, and we'd be playing DC instead (an inconsistent team which just had problems with yale).

so more is riding on this game than just our next weekend opponent. i'm not sure whether i'd rather see us play dartmouth or vermont down the road.

jy3 I will keep it simple, dartmouth will be better losing this series then the next series.  If they lose the series to Vermont, they are basically done in for a NCAA bid.  If they lose this game which does not look like they will they could still be in the NCAAs since they have a good record vs. TUCs.

It's not even finals, which are late this year and take place next weekend. To be fair, the student section is on the near (camera side), and from what I've heard they actually showed up all weekend (albeit 30 minutes after each game started).

It was the townies who never showed up this weekend.

I saw both the first games of the Clarkson-Union series and I can safely say that Clarkson is the better team.  They don't work nearly as hard as Union and are far more undisciplined but have a lot more talent.  But really I don't care about any of that.  I just want revenge on Clarkson.

Shawn Weller with the GWG, his first goal since his debut game with the Knights.

I was on Weller a bunch last week for him being overrated but I thought he had a very good first two games (I wasn't there tonight but I'm guessing he did well considering he scored the GWG).  VERY EXCITED ABOUT CLARKSON COMING!

Hopefully Weller will play really WELL and score a few more at Lynah for you.

Wish I could make the trip up but it's highly unlikely.

Another chapter in this rivalry will be written.  Let's hope it's exciting and entertaining hockey....and of course I hope the underdog can pull off another upset..
