Title: Scores 3/5 (Sat.)
Post by: ganderson on March 05, 2005, 06:35:44 PM
So there's no Gametracker for any of the WCHA games, or for half the Hockey East, so if anyone happens to be trolling USCHO score threads, I'd love the updates.

And we're "routing" for Onion tonight right?  (preferably in the 22nd OT :)

(trolling?  Who talks like that?)

With Quinnipiac's 5-1 score over AIC, (only 7 min left) they are close to tying up the#1 seed in their tournament.  Good to see our soon to be ECAC bretheren tearing  up their old conference.  :)

Copying my post from USCHO:

Damn it, French. Why'd you have to go and pull up the audio?

I got on the audio and last night and the game ended a minute later. You do the same tonight and it ends. If Cornell fans could just keep their damn computers off the Clarkson feed, the games would never end and the teams would be too worn down to make it to Ithaca next week.

IAYF, IAYF ;)

Meanwhile, we could still end up playing Yale, though I hope not for Dartmouth's sake.

Delta, I don't know why you want Dartmouth to win.  Who would you rather play next series Yale or (Union-Clarkson).  I krnow I would definitely want Yale.  The only reason why you would want Dartmouth to win is on the hope 3 Ivies will make the tourney, which they still have to get by Vermont and maybe more to make it.

BTW, not that this prediction was a good thing, but since you all have been ripping off my posts anyway... :-D  B-]

[q]
Prediction time:
OT will end in 5 minutes. Dartmouth will control the play. It's just a matter of whether or not they'll get one by Gardner before Yale gets to 3 SOG for the period.[/q]

So of course, Yale scored on their 3rd SOG of OT, and while play was probably a little more even for those 2:30 minutes than I expected, it's probably fair to say that Dartmouth still controlled the play - the GWG was a half dump-in as both teams were changing lines. Yacey had a pretty bad night. From the 4 goals I saw that he let in, it was as weak as I've seen him play all year.

Last time, and repeat after me.  You can no longer hurt your RPI by beating a poor team in the playoffs.  If we lose, we deserve the hit in RPI anyway.

negative RPI is removed in the playoffs so no, it is all dependent on how others teams do.

Right now, we have dropped down to number 6 in the PWR.  Michigan's win jumped them over Minnesota and us into 4.  Even thought the rest of the games are not in yet, I am pretty confident that we are going to stay in this position.  We are still in the #2 band, and at 6 we are more likely to be out east then 5.  For a number one seed, we will need to win out, and get lucky.  So number 2 seed is what I am rooting for, and hopefully then we get a good draw.

Edit:  This was done with 3-2-1 bonus, else we are 5, since Miami(OH) is right on the bubble of being a TUC.
Title: Re: Scores 3/5 (Sat.)
Post by: DeltaOne81 on March 05, 2005, 10:57:14 PM
It works out pretty the same with bonsuses of 0/0/0, 3/2/1, or 5/3/1

The best new is that Minn trails Mich by 2 comparisons - mainly Minn vs. Mich and Minn vs. BU - both of which Minn loses. So Minn would have to take both those comparisons back to be a #1. And even if they did, which with their sucky play is less than like, we would still have to take the Mich (or another) one back to get stuck in Minnesota.

So we're in fairly good position now to end up east, but lets give it another week before I/we start trying to rattle off all the possibilities :)

Also cool news: with 0/0/0 and 3/2/1 bonus, we end up in a likely regional of BC/Cornell/BU/NMU in Worcester (not sure if swaps for other regions would change this at all, just did our regions)

And while playing Yale couldn't hurt our RPI, it would keep it the same, while beating another team would raise it.

However, I'm more concerned at this point about Dartmouth - I'd love to see 3 ECAC teams there - and they are twelfth at the moment. Sure, I'd take Yale, but if they can beat Dartmouth, they're on a role. I'm not too much more thrilled about a hot Yale vs. a tired Union/Clarkson. We better be able to beat any of them if all this caring about NCAA seeding means anything.

Agreed. Absolutely rooting for Yale. I'd like to get a crappy team come here off a tough weekend. I'd like our guys to have as easy a time as possible and save their energy for the semis. Plus another shutout or two would be nice.

If I could choose any team, it would be Clarkson for sure.  I'm tired of easy opponents and I don't think they're helping the team.  Clarkson would battle hard and Cornell obviously has huge incentive to bring their very best against them.  It would be far more beneficial in the long run for Cornell to play a Clarkson or Union than a Yale.
Title: Re: Scores 3/5 (Sat.)

The team also has a bone to pick with Clarkson.

But one thing about Yale coming would be that then Vermont would get an easier opponent as well in their QF.  So which would you rather have?:

Cornell v Yale
Harvard v SLU
Colgate v Brown
Vermont v Clunion

or

Cornell v Clunion
Harvard v SLU
Colgate v Brown
Vermont v Dartmouth

Since there are positive/negative points for each, this is a case of reaching into the Coach's Bag O' Cliches: "we don't care who we play.  All of our league opponents are dangerous, well-coached teams.  We need to take care of our own business and not worry about watching the scoreboard, and the good Lord willing, things will work out."

I believe the two most dangerous teams for us are Harvard and Dartmouth, in that order.  Anything that puts them out of the tournament is a good thing, IMHO.  If it affects their NCAA bid chances, I don't care a whit.  Winning in Albany is important.  Seeing Dartmouth in the NCAAs pales in comparison.

Maybe a team that knocks out Dartmouth is by definition more dangerous than Dartmouth, in the short term (hot goalie, team coming together at the right time, sold their souls to Satan, blah blah blah...).

Maybe, but certainly not "by definition."

In any case, I'd be happy to take that chance.  Little doubt in my mind that Dartmouth's "more dangerous" than Yale.

Even if Yale beats Dartmouth tonight, I would still rather face them next weekend than keep Dartmouth hanging around as a potential opponent in Albany.

Ari - the team practices at Lynah. They play to win. Once we are in the playoffs I want cupcake city for as long as possible. Go Yale.*

But one thing about Yale coming would be that then Vermont would get an easier opponent as well in their QF.  So which would you rather have?:

Cornell v Yale
Harvard v SLU
Colgate v Brown
Vermont v Clunion

or

Cornell v Clunion
Harvard v SLU
Colgate v Brown
Vermont v Dartmouth

[/q]

Actually, should Yale win, all teams would have different-than-expected opponents.  Vermont gets the highest seed to emerge from this weekend:

Yale win:
Cornell vs. Yale
Harvard vs. Clunion
Colgate vs. SLU
Vermont vs. Brown

Dartmouth win:
Cornell vs. Clunion
Harvard vs. SLU
Colgate vs. Brown
Vermont vs. Dartmouth

Harvard has always had trouble with Clarkson.  I believe that I read that this was the first year the Crimson have swept the Knights since the 1980s.  On the other hand, I really believe that SLU has its game together.  They made Cornell dig deep last weekend, rolled Colgate, and just laid 104 shots on Princeton this weekend.  The Saints could be poised to do what Clarkson did in 2004.

You're right of course.  Brain fart.[/q]

SLU is really coming on and I think they have a decent shot at beating Harvard and an even better shot if they play Colgate.
