Heard about this tonight on NPR. http://www.freestanley.com/

A boy can dream can't he?

I'm pretty sure US college teams couldn't play in a tournament with professional teams due to NCAA amateurism rules.  But I'd love to see a playoff among the champions of the various North American Leagues.  Not sure if the Memorial Cup and Canadian college champions belong there.

Unfortunately, this will never happen.  The NHL may not be able to hold games, but they will be able to protect the trademark they must now own on the phrase "Stanley Cup".

Free Stanley alleges that the assumption of the rights to the Cup by the NHL was a violation of trust law, but on the time-honored jurisprudential theory of "I can afford a more expensive lawyer than you," even if they were 100% correct they would never win.

Maybe a petition drive would work better.  Convince the NHL that this is what the fans want.

Since when does the NHL care about what the fans want?
