Wow, opposite the co-National-Championship game.
what website did you find that the gold medal game is on ESPN.
According to ESPN's TV listings:
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/index
the game is not on ESPN at 8pm, but USA elimination games were on while contradicting the listing. The game could be shown instead of classic boxing--a wise choice, IMO! ;-)
I found the WJC ESPN site:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/feature/featureStory?page=2005wjc
But that also doesn't mention the game being on ESPN at 8pm.
I'm not sure what Ari was quoting.
When I was watching the USA-Russia semifinal, I got the impression from the announcers that they were showing the Gold Medal game only if the US was in it. Not sure if it's much help here, as I have no proof, but it could explain contradicting listings.
From a post on USCHO:
"ESPN.com on the "What to look for" ticker is now showing Canada vs Russia at 8 PM ET on ESPN. The listings aren't showing it that way, but it could be right. I hope so, we'll be back from practice by then and I can turn one TV on it anyway. "
On Sunday they were saying it would only be on if the U.S. was in the championshio game.
I sent them an email urging them to broadcast the game. I explained that if people were watching, it was because they were avid hockey fans and not because they were U.S. nationalists, and that the average U.S. hockey fan watching the tournament probably knew more about Crosby than they did about Kessel. Maybe that helped and they probably got a few others like it. Let's hope it's on.

That is what I saw, but it is no longer there now. Cross your fingers and tune in at 8.
so as of 8:10pm EST there is no hockey on ESPN ... instead we get a preview of the TV series Tilt.
:-(
disappointing to say the least
