To everyone in NYC and nearby,
I'm a member of the Cornell BAR Committee (and a big Cornell hockey fan) who is in charge or organizing the monthly Cornell NYC Alumni happy hours.
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that there will be a Cornell BAR Committee Happy Hour/Party centered around the viewing of the Cornell vs. Clarkson televised game on Friday night, 1/28.
"Good Evening Hockey Fans!!!" - Come join fellow Cornell Alumni and host Jason Demby '99 at the Park Avenue Country Club to watch the Cornell Big Red Hockey team defend their #9 national ranking (as of 1/3) against league rival Clarkson in their only remaining televised game of the regular season. We have reserved the Lounge area for the showing of the game so bring your spirit and all of your friends to the first Alumni Happy Hour of the year! Cornell prizes will be given to those showing up in Cornell apparel.
Date: Friday, January 28th
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Park Avenue Country Club, 381 Park Ave South (at 27th Street), (212) 685-3636.

Jason
Ship of Fools has been good to us, right? Why change?
Do you guys usually have a good crowd that gathers there? How many people?
I had no idea that was where people went to watch...
There were about ten or so people there for the CU-BC Everblades game last week. We took the back room, which had lots of flat screen TVs (albeit with distorted pictures -- what the hell) and a pool table. If the venue isn't already chosen for the happy hour, Ship of Fools is a very good spot.
That back room could probably hold, what, fifty people? It would be sweet to have a good crowd cheering on the Red...
I was over at Blondie's and we also had about 10 people watching the CU/BC game.
Thanks for the suggestions...I've been to Ship of Fools and agree that its a good place.
I decided that it might be a better idea and get more people if we held this a little more towards the middle of the city so we're holding the event at Park Avenue Country Club.
I'm sure that everyone here in NYC has their favorite place to watch a game, but if you guys could all spread the word and show up at Park Avenue Country Club to support this event that would be great. I think we all agree that its a lot more fun to watch a game with other fans.
Here is the scoop which you'll see in the Cornell NY Net News:

Pick your poison....Park Avenue or Ship of Fools.......I am sure I can get three or four Clarkson alum to show.
OK...Now if more Clarkson fans show up to this than Cornellians...that would be BAD!
LET'S PACK THIS PLACE!!!
::moon:: CLARKSON
............::stupid::
jason_demby@hotmail.com Why the hostility?
The Clarkson alumni and fans SHOULD be gathering at one of the chosen sites for this game. The CSTV production replaces our annual "satellite broadcast" which is traditionally one of the Tech-RPI games.
Sites are listed at www.clarkson.edu. Click on "Alumni". cornell fans are welcome, there's no admin charge as there was in the past because Clarkson has no production costs to cover thanks to CSTV. :-D
Hey...I live in NYC...and wanted to meet up with some fellow Lynah faithful ...I'll be bringing some friends to the Park Avenue Country Club...Hope its a good crowd....Who else here is planning on going???
Park Avenue Country Club is nice, large (but segmented) so there's lots to do if you show up early. If you take the Lexington Ave. local, get off at 28th Street.
I've made a posting for the Park Avenue Country Club event to the NYC Cornell Alumni Yahoo bulletin board. For those of you that are in the area but are not on it, its a good way to find out about Cornell related events going on in the city. It also proves useful for job postings, apartments, etc. I recommend that you subscribe:
big_red_bulletin@yahoogroups.com
I hope to see you all on Friday, 1/28 and Park Avenue Country Club!
Who from here will be coming?
I'm there. Thanks very much for putting this together. Hope there's a big, rowdy crowd cheering for the Red.
Just a little more information. To subscribe to the Cornell NYC Alumni yahoo group/bulletin send an email to:
big_red_bulletin-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
I've gotten some positive response from my posting to the bulletin so far so hopefully we will have a pretty good crowd at Park Avenue Country Club. Hope you all can make it! (Feel free to post something on this thread if you are going to be coming :))
Cool...see you there Gabe...we're also trying to get a few little Cornell things to give away (stickers, etc) to people who are wearing their Cornell gear but no promises.
Just bumping this up so people will still see it on the first page. I hope I'm not committing too much of a message board faux pas. ;-)
Jason
I hope to be there with my (*gasp!*) BU alum girlfriend. At least one of us will be in Cornell gear.
Beeeej
OK...I've just confirmed that I'll have some Cornell goodies to give away to people in Cornell gear at Park Avenue Country Club! (shot glasses, stickers, socks, calendars)
Sorry Beeeeej...your girlfriend will have to miss out!
Who's coming? I'm curious to put some faces to the names I see on here...
Jason
I'll probably be able to make it as well.
Believe me, Jess'll be able to live without extra Cornell stuff. :-{)} By the way, are we sure that 8pm is the game start time?
Beeeej
Yeah...I thought it was a little odd too. Leave it to me to think that I could rely on the official Cornell athletics site for the game time. ::nut::
CORRECTION: HAPPY HOUR WILL BE STARTING AT 8:00 PM (see other posts)
Thanks Beeeeej! (for NOTHING! j/k :-)...ahhh...how long ago those irc days were)
I believe the game does start at 8pm EST. CSTV's Friday games have uniformly started at that time. Also, see
http://cornellbigred.collegesports.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/100504aaa.html
which says the game has been moved to 8pm to accommodate the television broadcast.
That's no reason that we can't start our hours of happiness at 7pm, though. :-D
Beeeej
Lol! This is pretty funny!
CSTV has 2 different schedules on their site.
One of them shows it at 8:00 PM:
http://cstv.collegesports.com/tvschedule.htm?sportSel=ICE+HOCKEY+-+MEN%27S&seriesSel=no&schoolSel=CORNELL&conferenceSel=no&gameSel=no
One of them shows the game at 7:00 PM:
http://www.collegesports.com/teams/corn/cs-media-corn.html
USCHO shows 7:00:
http://www.uscho.com/schedules/index.php?date=20050123
Elynah (which is great but obviously not an "official" schedule) shows 7:00:
http://db.elynah.com/season.php?year=2005
So I just spoke to the Cornell athletics office and they've confirmed 8:00
Obviously feel free to go earlier (I'll probably be there by 7:30) but I'm keeping everything for 8:00.
I'm in for Park Avenue Country Club. It's two blocks away from the office. LGR. - Bill Howard
It's this Friday!!! (bump)
Roll Call...who else is coming? (bump :-D)
Looks like I'll be in NYC this weekend so I'll try my best to get there
I'll be there and probably my brother too, he's class of '02
See you all there! LGR!
I'll be there with my Dad...
Great. I should be at a table signing people in for part of the event so introduce yourselves!
Jason
Also...because I was asked...
The Cornell BAR Comittee is the group throwing this event...I'm a member of the committee.
BAR stands for Big Apple Red (I didn't make it up! :)) and is the committee that is in charge of throwing monthly Cornell NYC Alumni happy hours. They are usually held the third Thursday of every month at different bars around the city.
I'm in. See y'all there.
- Elliot '98
Still got your jersey? :-{)}
Beeeej
TONIGHT! (bump :))
Gonna start pregaming in a few hours then head over to the bar around 730.

I like that euphemism..."pregaming." :-D
OK, I think I am coming, but I need some reassurance. It has been so long since I've been to a game that I no longer remember how long televised games last.
I have a show to do (http://www.rickblaine.com/index/gigs/calendar/)* in Cobble Hill at 11:30 and I need to be sure that I'll get there in time.
So, seriously, am I going to screw myself if I go to PACC?
*Gratuitous plug. Apologies.
This game starts at 8, and with the TV timeouts it should last until 11, so you couldn't really stay until the end (though you could make it if you took a taxi and the bridges aren't too bad).
~Josh
Damn.
If anyone in Brooklyn feels like watching it at my place (and going to Cobble Hill for the show if they feel like it) drop me a private message.
Considering that you haven't seen a game in so long...why is it such a big deal for you to leave early and miss the end of the game!!! Come on...come to Park Ave Country Club...it'll be fun! See you there in an hour and a half or so!
"So long" should be interpreted as "since last year," not "since graduation." Missing the end of the game would be more painful than finding out the next day that the game was on TV.
I want to thank everyone here for showing up tonight!!! We had a great crowd of at least 100-150 people (maybe more) at the bar to watch the game... Cornell cheers and all!!!
If/when we make it to television again I am going to pull together another similar event...
Great meeting a bunch of you...and...LETS GO RED!!!
Jason
That was a great time. Thanks for organizing, Jason! :-)
What an amazing turnout in New York City. Nice job, Jason.
Excellent time was had by all. Thank you Jason!!
Robin '98
Oh what a time, and it was nice to meet Jason, Gabe "98, 04" Heafitz ;-) and Bill Howard and to see familiar faces from road trips! Gabe, great job with the cheers! Jason, great job with the event!
Is there any way for me to post a few pictures from the night up here?
Some pictures!
More pics!
By the way, when I took off the pin-bedecked sweatshirt that night, I scratched the hell out of my forehead. ::rolleyes::
Beeeej
I'm not seeing the attachments. Just the word "Attachments." Is it a firefox thing?
I'm trying to figure it out. I had some quirky responses from the site when I was posting them last night. I'd see them listed one time...then the next time they would disappear.
One more try on some pics!
More pics...
Still nothing. Is it just me?
I could see the pictures fine...both times...Beeej has a lot of pins
i attached 3 different pictures to each posting...there should be 6 different pictures...do you see 6 different ones?

I did! B-]
How is it that you can see them yet I can't see them myself?
i don't know if this really "solves" your problem, bigggreddd77, but i was able to see the attachments while using the threaded view, but not while using the flat view.

That solved it for me. Thanks.
