Title: St. Cloud 1 P vs. Maine 1 OT
Post by: atb9 on December 28, 2004, 04:33:51 PM
Game is underway.

Through the first period: Maine has a majority of the shots, St. Cloud is winning most of the faceoffs, St. Cloud is 0/3 on the PP and Maine is 0/2

Through the second period:  Goals from Clafton and Ryan.  Maine is still controlling play.  Maine is 0/4 on the power play.

Through the third period: Maine finishing has been really poor.  They could have won the game on a shorty with seconds remaining but the door was shut by Boron.  Howard and Boron were big throughout the period.  We're going to Overtime!  Neither team has won an OT game this year.

Shootout: Both teams will remain winless in OT games.  St. Cloud wins 2-1 through 7 rounds to advance to the championship

the stands are pretty empty for the first game

According to Maine's Derek Damon, the legs are heavy and the ice is choppy

Mid way through the second...Maine seems to be controlling play.  Shots are 18-13 in favor of Maine.  St. Cloud's goalie is solid.  Howard is one of the best goalies in the country.  Maine has some speed but it looks like they can be stood up.  Maine's defense has size and they look comfortable with the puck.  Both teams play wide-open hockey--I haven't seen much cycling from either team.

The CSTV announcers said the Cornell players looked like basketball players compared to the other teams.

St. Cloud just had a PP goal waved off because of a crease violation

St. Cloud scores on the man advantage.  Good puck movement lead to the weak side being left wide open when the defense collapsed towards the strong side.

A great cross ice pass in the neutral zone during a 4 on 4 led to a breakaway and goal by Maine.

Cornell players are hanging out, watching the end of the game, getting some face time on TV in their sweats.

Coach was joking that Cornell might not want to win the tourney because 3 out of the last 4 losers (2nd place team) have gone on to the frozen four

A stupid cross check with 1:14 left leads to a power play for St. Cloud.

Timeout with 30 seconds left.

If it is tied, it goes to a 5 minute OT and then a five player shoot out

My lord.  Maine almost scored a shorty when two St. Cloud defenders went for the forechecker against the back boards, leaving the slot wide open.  Short side underneath was closed by Boron.

Sudden Death Overtime and 40+ seconds of powerplay carry over.

Puck got behind Howard but he reaches back with his glove to slow the puck and then falls backward in an angel to cover the puck.  Nasty.

Maine was dominated during OT but we're heading to the shootout.  Game will go down as a tie and the shootout will determine who advances.  Should be fun.
