That is to say, who else is making the trip down?

I was waiting for someone to start a thread saying "Who wants to get a group together to watch the Everblades in Florida?  Oh wait."

By the way, apparently it's not actually the Everblades College Classic anymore, but the Florida College Classic.  I'm trying to remember where I read this and I'm coming up short.

That it was changed from Everblades Classic, kind of a cool name, to the generic Florida College Classic, has been mentioned on Cornell's site and on USCHO. As to why, that part I've missed. Perhaps the Everblades hockey team that plays in Germain Arena, didn't want the competition, or maybe the college tournament didn't want to give free publicity to the Everblades. The arena itself changed its name from TECO (big Florida power company) to Germain (auto firm in Fla and Ohio) Arena in June.

Those of you making it down there, enjoy. It's a very nice event, the arena people are polite, the arena is the perfect size (7500) for a mid-market team, and if your spouse or girlfriend is bored to tears by all this hockey stuff, there's a nice mall in the same parking lot.

I'm guessing they changed the name to avoid confusion.  Since the Everblades is the pro team's name, people may not have realized that this was, in fact, a college tournament.  I believe the team is owned (co-owned?) by a Big Red hockey player, Craig Brush '72, so I doubt the reason has anything to so with pushback from the team.

I would have thought "Everblades College Classic" made that sort of obvious.

Yes, I'm going.

I have also heard from my relatives who bought our tickets (Ft. Myers residents) that our little college classic is included in the Everblades team's season ticket package, though I have no idea why that would be.

Josh, I'm pretty sure I saw you on TV tonight...it was during one of the 5x3's that BC had and it looked like you were standing with three other guys in Cornell jersey's...check out the tape, if you get a chance!  B-]

Yeah, that group (JTW, jmh, among others) were on the TV at least twice, near the end of each of the first 2 periods.  Very briefly...one of those "look at these fans" shots each time.

I saw Ari too, I believe in the same group.

[OT and completely lookist / ageist [not AGEist] remark] Secretly every university PR person yearns for TV sideline shots of gorgeous coeds and manly men sitting in the stands looking happy and eating popcorn, not showing off tattoos or probing for earwax or chugging smuggled beers or berating their kids. There were a couple pictures of handsome Cornell-jersey wearers early on and before the game, but then it seemed as if the cameras found retired and not-been-to-gym-lately Cornellians.

Cornell needs to recruit more good looking Cornellians. One more reason I'm glad I got into Cornell then because if that were in effect, I'd never get in now.

I wasn't doing a good job of keeping track of the camera, but Jeff Kahn, I, Josh, and Judy were standing left-to-right in the back row, and Ari was in front of us.  Unfortunately, Ari left the bell in his hotel room, but we convinced him to bring it today.

Well, now we know who to blame.  ;-)
