Title: BC Will Be Without Schneider
Post by: Everblades on December 09, 2004, 10:12:36 AM
Boston College will be without Goalie Corey Schneider for the Everblades tournament since he was selected to play for the US National Junior Team for the World Junior Hockey Championships.

So far they've been strictly alternating Katiainen and Schneider.  Had this rotation continued, since they've got one game left before the Everblades, we would have gotten Schneider, but Kaltianinen is an extremely solid goalie also.  I'm sure he, and the rest of the BC squad, will be wanting to prove something after having been beaten by us in the NCAA's in '03.

I think we did ok without Lenny a couple of years ago.

Todd Marr was definitely not the reason we lost to Maine in the first round, I agree.

Good for Schneider, but I had really wanted to see him play (but lose to Cornell, of course) since he's a Vancouver prospect... not that the NHL really matters now anyway, I guess.

Maine was also without their #1 goalie, Jimmy Howard, who was also as the WJC two years ago when they played.

Marr should've been all-tournament goalie that year.

That's right. I'd forgotten that. Marr still played very well.

An extremely solid goalie?  The finnish five hole?  I'd have to disagree.  He's an average goaltender...at best.  In his three years at BC the highest SV% he's had to end a season is .907 last year.  He's got good size...but he always seems to let in the big goal and doesn't play well in big games.

So far this year, all of BC's losses have come with Kaltianen in net (he is 3-3-0 on the year, Schneider is 3-0-3).  Not that that necessarily means anything..just an interesting statistic.

That said, BC has a solid team and we all know that there are some nights when Cornell can make the most average goaltender look like Ken Dryden.

Should be a good tourney.

I was about to make a point about how they're probably playing Kaltiainen against the more difficult teams, but then I realized his three losses were to Harvard, BU, and Notre Dame.  ::nut::

Kaltiainen played just fine against us in the NCAAs two years back. This is going to be tough game regardless of who is in net for BC.

We just have to aim short-side, top-shelf. :-D

Ahhh, the memories...

And to commemorate it (and because I'd sort of forgotten and this is as good a time as any), the SportsCenter play of the week clip of the goal is back online.

Can anyone think of why it doesnt' play for me. when i opened the link, i got a message along the line of saying that that the program was already installed, no need for installation. Then i just get a window that is blank other than the "Cornell University - Boston College 3/30/2003
Game winning goal is SportsCenter's #5 play of the week" caption.

There are two possibilities why the highlight doesn't play:

- You are incompetent

- Your PC is incompetent. Some player software is missing. As you probably know, to do real things online, if you're using a Windows PC, you're going to need to add RealPlayer and Adobe Acrobat and Java environments and QuickTime (what you need here) and so forth until the task tray in the lower right corner needs to be on two rows. Stuff the PC maker should have installed and didn't, because the more stuff on your PC, the more stuff the maker has to support. Then when you install it and your machine doesn't work, the first thing tech support asks is, "Have you modified the machine since you got it? QuickTime, you say? Well, have you called Apple? ..."

I'm kind of liking the second possibility.

BTW if you do need player software (for anything, not just this) and it doesn't work, before you seek help, just do the installation a second time. Ditto for apps not applets, for instance anything from ScanSoft.

It's worth the hassle. The goal is a thing of beauty and every time you play the clip, the puck goes in. "And the twenty-three year wait is over [return to Final Four]" isn't quite as memorable as "Do you believe in miracles?" but for a Cornell fan, it's darn close.

Once again, BC will be without Schneider, but it is more significant this time.

BC's Schneider signs with Canucks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2925365)

It was nothing. I searched for "Schneider" to see if anyone else had posted the story.

That's not fair!  You can't retroactively attach a punchline to a post that was made 2.5 years prior to the joke.  Foul.  Flag on the play.  2 minute minor.  Yellow card.

I didn't even look at the date.  I just kept hitting next message and this came right after the last post.

I'm glad I didn't look at the date.  The original joke is probably as good as anything I have seen on here.
