So this morning, I'm flipping through my December copy of Gourmet. Nicole Kidman Chanel ad? Check. Review of Port Gift sets? Check. Phaeton W12 ad? Check. Review of Hot truck? Whaaaaat?!?
That's right. The December 2004 issue has a 2 page review of hot truck. Wonders never cease.

Heh, glad you like it. The article is taped up on the window at the Truck right now. Also, towards the end of December, the Hot Truck is going to be featured on the Food Network in some fashion. In the next few days, I'll be sure to get the correct time/date info.
FABULOUS ARTICLE!!! Even though I still live in Ithaca, I've long since had to abandon all things carbs, so it's been many years since I visited the hot truck. However, the hot truck legacy still sticks firmly in my mind from my days as an undergrad and the article got my mouth watering and immediately recalled the language of the truck. I know Al Smith of Shortstop Deli fame quite well and I'm sure he will keep the "hot truck" running for many future generations of Cornellians!

Hot Truck discussed on the same page as some of NYC's most expensive restaurants. Never thought I'd see the day. ::nut::
Gotta make a run. It's only 4 hours away!B-]
Not the same since Bob retired...::rolleyes:: ::uhoh::

Club hockey hasn't been the same since they retired your number.
It's cool to see Hot Truck/Shortstop listed in the same Top 10 as Spago in Bevery Hills and the original Uno in Chicago: http://www.epicurious.com/restaurants/best_eats/pizza
Shortstop's Hot Truck sandwiches are definitely not as good as sandwiches directly from the Truck. And I agree that Hot Truck isn't the same since Bob left. But it's still pretty damn good. And comparing four years experience to 40 years just isn't fair.
I've been to five of the 10 on that list and none are as good as the Nines deep dish pizza.

With or without the special mushrooms?
I like Chicago-style Deep dish, and Zachary's Deep Dish (Berkeley/Rockridge), but frankly, I always thought the Nines deep dish was vastly overrated. It's way too much like the ghetto doughy crap we got in the elementary school cafeteria.
So what was "the usual" for you? Mine was a "Ra-Ra, liquid heat and garden".
The Big Willie. :-D
Is the epicurious article accurate in saying that they installed pizza ovens at Shortstop? Last time I was there that wasn't the case, and I felt that one reason Hot Truck subs weren't nearly as good when made there as opposed to in the truck was because they weren't cooked in anything like the ovens in the truck.
Yeah, the article got that wrong. Shortstop pretty much uses the same oven apparatus for all of their hot sandwiches, including Hot Truck. IMHO, Shortstop really can't do Hot Truck sandwiches justice down there. But still, fake Hot Truck is better than no Hot Truck anyday (i.e., during the summer, over breaks, etc.).
This obviously reflects very high standards, but the fact that you can only get Hot Truck at Shortstop over the summer is symptomatic of the way things have gone downhill since Bob retired. :-/

I remember the summer when I was living at 660 Stewart Avenue and the Hot Truck reappeared when the summer students arrived. That was fantastic.
