Scoring:
1 5:54 MSU pp Goldie (Thelen, Booth)
2 4:11 Cor Krantz 1 (Sawada 2, Cam Abbott 4)
We have our pocket picked behind the CU net twice early, but survive -- McKee a big save on the second miscue.
Another big save by McKee, followed by a penalty on Gleed. 4:46 in, MSU sounds dominant.
Then McKee another huge save right off the faceoff, helped by the pipes!
MSU scores on the pp, 0-1.
dang, that was last year! Ugh
we're getting dominated
I'm glad the 2nd game is Sunday regardless of the outcome...as long as Coach gets access to some tapes
Holding on Moulson, MSU back on pp.
Over-the-shoulder save by McKee saves a goal. Seconds to go on the 2nd MSU pp.
sounds like McKee is keeping us in this
Cornell kills it off, MSU still buzzing around the CU net. 7:25 to go in 1st.
Shots are 10-2, McKee on fire, rest of the team stone cold flat.
I'm curious, how's he posting this? Is there a hotspot in their arena?
Pokulok and Sawada save Cornell from another bad in-zone mishap. At least the Freshmen have their heads in the game...
The internet broadcast I'd assume.
Well, whatever it is, thank you Greg for keeping us up to date.
shots now 12-3
Yep, I'm posting off the internet broadcast. Krantz just had a nice clear, too. The forwards have been notably silent. CU playing more even the last 3-4 shifts.
Is it a video broadcast?
There's just radio for this one (on the internet at least)
No, just the WHCU 'cast. Final minute of the first, Cornell still just withstanding a siege.
End of first, MSU totally in control, and thank God for McKee; we're still in it. Shots were 12-3.
End of 1st. Shots 12-3 MSU.
Lucky to get out of that period 1-0
is there a good audio or video
??????
::help::
there's the college sports pass but you gotta pay

o crud
Schafer was apparently Not Happy At All with the team's play in the first, based on his body (and other) language behind the bench. Announcers speculating that the team may wake up between periods. I hope so -- this aint the opponent to sleep through.
:41 of 2nd, O'Byrne delay of game. MSU pp #3.
Delay of game on O'Byrne. :41. Took the net off its moorings, but may have been pushed into it.
LGR!!!
God dammit!
Was that a "Let's Go Red" chant? :-)
sounded like it
That time a nice, effective kill. Back to even strength.
So penalties 3-1 so far?
GOAL!!!!
Moulson a good rush but muffs the drop to Scott. We still haven't had a dangerous scoring op -- MSU has had about 8.
KRANTZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
GOOAL!!!!
KRANTZ!
First goal for Krantz!!! LGR!!!!
YEAH!!!!!!!!! LGR LGR!!!! LGR!!!!!
one we want more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Cam Abbott and Sawada with the assists
yeehaw!
is there an IRC chat somewhere?
Cornell now getting some shots on net. The bear stirs...
irc://irc.warped.net/lynah
Hynes stopped on a breakaway; then Cook breaks up an MSU breakaway. Whew.
hmm...not letting me connect...
End to end action, now; good plays by both teams.
SOG: 20-5 MSU
penalty on MSU, tripping, Howles?
Cornell goes on pp.
killed
pp killed, but some good chances. SOG: 24-8.
the announcers were trying to say 24-8 is better than 20-5. Huh?
maybe they meant 4-3 is better than 20-5?
Hey, it's better by ratio... ::laugh::
MSU back on pp now.
24 - 8 (3:1) is better than 20-5 (4:1)...
Pegs goes off, 5x3 pp. ::help::
...but they both look damn ugly :-P
:2 and :41 / with faceoff outside the zone.
Now :35 with one man back.
YES
Cornell kills it off! :-) :-) :-)
Cornell kills it, back to full strength
Another loud LGR? I couldn't tell...it sounded like "red"
And back on the pk
Moulson trips up Skinner to prevent breakaway, good penalty but we're back on the kill again. 6 pps - 1 pp.
Knoepfli bid for shg foiled.
Are we using two PK units? I know we practice with three. Could our PK be getting tired?
back to full strength again
End of the 2nd
respect us Internet people on a delay
opps! Sorry about that...stupid delay
Did anybody else lose the feed and have to restart the RP app?
SOG through 2: 27-8.
no, mine has been working fine so far, although others appear to be having problems with the feed cutting out.
Aren't we all internet people on delay?
Nope...
nope, people in Ithaca are listening to it over the radio
Oh, right. Brain fart on my part. Carry on...
:-) No worries! LGR!
Bitz being interviewed; compared to Topher he has a basso profundo. ;-)
Sounds like he's very disappointed to be sidelined; but he may be back next week.
Just lulling Vicari to sleep...
Anyone know if the interview was done in Ithaca? I would like to know if Ari actually was Bitz last night :-D
It was clearly at MSU, they talked about the first two periods of the game..
He might have been. Because Bitz mentioned something about being Ari Baum yesterday....
Game on...
McKee HUGE save on Goldie breakaway!
Topher draws the call; Cornell pp.
Killed off without a good chance. About 12 mins to go in reg.
Cornell trouble clearing and then almost a bad line change. A little sloppy in the last few mins. 11 mins in reg.
Cam Abbott huge open ice hit; SOG 31-13. Halfway through the 3rd.
Since you've had 6 posts in a row I thought I'd let you know I'm still reading them :)
That's all, LGR
:-) Me too!
Yes. Thanks for the running commentary.
Did Cam get hit, or do the hitting?
Not even close to a record. :-)
Krantz with some nice checking to break up a chance and then a good push to Sawada. The frosh really sound good (Pokulok too). Hynes, Cook also in on a lot of action. McKee continues to amaze.
Cam did the hitting.
PP!!!!! LGR!
McCutcheon misses barely on a screen. Cornell going back on pp, 6:09 to go.
4:03 to go, back at even strength. Cornell controlled the puck for that pp but didn't get a good shot off.
SOGs now within 2:1, 32-18. ;-) CU actually outshooting MSU 10-5 in the third and we sound like we are getting the better of the play now.
We survive a brief instant with McKee sans stick. MSU draws a call and goes on pp #7, 2:37 left.
oh no...
Cam Abbott just misses a backhand shorty! 1:15 to go in pp.
Cam just missed a SHG on the backhand
Pegs threatens shorthanded, :30 to go in pp. Cam Abbott another shorty shot!
LGR! Another short op by Cam!
If I had a nickel for evertime he just-missed a shorthanded attempt, i'd have....well...probably around $1, anyway.
Sorry Greg, I'm getting excited!!!!
Even strength again, Cornell flailing to clear. Big battle for puck, MSU still has it, McKee finally freezes it with 13 seconds to go in reg.
Timeout MSU.
Moulson clears; Chris Abbott and Moulson try to coordinate but time runs out. 1-1, going to o.t. SOG: 33-20.
1-1 into OT
Lots of action in neutral zone, Hynes works the boards hard.
Pokulok springs Scott but Vitari save, now McKee has to make a couple quick saves.
Cam sends in Pegs but Vitari save. End to end now and MSU offsides, 2:31 to go.
Greg, you're basically translating the play-by-play of the radio guys into an Internet form. It's like livestats, only a little more descriptive.
Sawada with the carry into MSU end, Cook with a great shot but blocked, now McKee with a shakey save on the other end, faceoff in CU end, 1:48.
MSU wins faceoff, has control in CU end.
How long is O.T.?
5:00 min
Now Cook takes it out, Pokulok turns it over at center ice, MSU with a couple good chances in CU end. CU fighting to clear it... delayed penalty on Cornell and on the touch-up MSU will go on pp #8, :47.
Sasha goes to locker room. MSU wins draw...
Gleed clears, Cam and Iggy try to set up a shorty...
a major penalty?
McKee a save at the buzzer! 1-1, tie.
Phew! Wow! Go McKee!
For how the game started, I'm pretty happy with a tie

5 for hitting from behing + a DQ so he's out Sunday.
Mckee plays great... steals the tie for CU! LGR
sasha-what happened there?
I don't follow. Who's out?
Gee, we're having some trouble lately it seems with hitting opponents from the front.
Final SOG 37-21. "Dave-Mc-Kee!"
Union 5, RPI 4 F
Dartmouth 1, Clarkson 4 F
Vermont 4, SLU 3 fOT
Princeton 5, Brown 1
Yale, Harvard, late start
Maine 2, Northeastern 4 F
Maine falls to 6-6!
See ya all Sunday!
Where the different between T/L and T/W looms awful large.
gate lost to lowell
Harvard 3 Yale 1 Final
(East Lansing report) Simply put, Mcee was awesome. It could have easily been 6-0 after one period. Great position, great reaction, never rattled, quick glove. I don't think I've seen a better game by a Cornell goalie, and I was there for all three Dryden years. I spoke with David at the reception after the game and he said "it was a lot of fun out there" but added that "it's a lot of fun just watching also." I saw on some website that there are currently 11 Mich. St. alums in the NHL, so that speaks for the talent level. We were forced into taking a lot of penalties by their dominating play, but each period we got stronger (or they got weaker), so that by the third period it finally looked like a battle of equals. Cam Abbott did some great work on the last two penalty kills. Charlie Cook made an unbelievable play coming from nowhere to break up a 2 on 1 that had turned into a man going in alone vs. McKee. Krantz had some turnovers in the first period, but played solidly thereafter. Pokulok showed great poise and skill for a freshman. Since I don't want to post much relating to injury info, I'll just add that Carefoot will be out on Sunday and there's a good chance Bitz will play in his place.
I think these games are great experience for the kids. Despite Michigan State's relatively slow start this season, they were a top ten team last year, didn't lose much to graduation and have a very strong sophomore class and real good freshman. Playing games like this, win or lose, will make you better.
It was good to meet some of the frequent posters out there, and I got some time to talk hockey with Keith, Christine and Robb after the game.
So if anyone who was at the game gets online later, would love to hear your thoughts... from a MSU fan posting on USCHO.com
"Ya, he stole a tie. MSU dominated the game except for 5 min in the 2nd and again for 5 in the 3rd. Overall Cornell was a slow non-athletic team. They could not gain control of the puck for long stretches and when they did they got out worked in the corners. Offensivly MSU ran the corners and cycled the puck well. If it were not for outstanding goaltending the game could have been easily 5-1. Overall Cornell had one forward 14 (Moulson) that definitly had skills. He was generating all of Cornell's offense in the latter part of the game. On the other hand MSU played a balanced high tempo game but could not score (getting to be an old story). The officiating was by far the loosest that I have seen this season. Alot of holding in the corners and stick work was allowed compared to previous games. If the balance of the season were called like this i would be happy. I am looking forward to Sunday's game. I wish it were Saturday. Go State."
italics added by me ;-) , looking forward to this slow non-athletic team winning on Sunday. LGR!!!

CSTV Gametracker has it as a game misconduct, not a DQ, implying that he will be available Sunday.
Whoever writes the hockey stories for the Cornell athletic department sounds as though he (or she) agrees with the assessment that McKee stole the game. http://cornellbigred.collegesports.com/sports/m-hockey/recaps/111204aab.html
The shots on goal tell that story, too.
Based on the play-by-play on the radio, it sure sounded as if Michigan State was the superior team tonight, although Cornell got better as the game progressed. But listening to the first period, I thought it could be a blowout.
I think Michigan State is underrated, but I think and sure hope Cornell can play better than they did tonight.
Regarding Bitz playing on Sunday to replace Carefoot, I think they should wait until next weekend. There is no point in rushing Bitz back to the lineup for Sunday's game, so dress seven D or give McLeod a shot.

Some of the forum (seems like all of the forum sometimes) disses the Sun and Ithaca Journal for their hockey coverage. But the athletics department game story is an electronic press release. In a Cornell sports information game recap, the opponent plays well in victory, Cornell does not play poorly in defeat or tie. Sometimes (as appears actually to be the case with McKee), one Cornell player is heroic in holding on to a tie or keeping it close. The harshest words may be that "the offense had trouble getting untracked." That kind of wording got a lot of use last football season coming out of cornellbigred.com. No one is saying Cornell officialdom should go out of its way to make Cornell look bad, but you've got to take the game recap from Cornell's ministry of sports information with a grain of salt.
How about this nugget of incomplete information in the MSU recap: "In over time [sic], MSU outshot the Big Red 4-1 and nearly put the puck in the net on a scrum right in front of the crease as time wound down. Cornell was a man down at the time, as a penalty had been assessed with just 47 seconds remaining. McKee maintained his composure until one of his defensemen was able to clear it and held on for the tie." It wasn't just a penalty assessed, it was a five major for hitting from behind by a freshman, Pokoluk, that Cornell had and has high hopes for. (The defenseman who cleared was probably unnamed only because in the confusion no one was sure who cleared.)
And speaking of which, is Pokoluk gone for Sunday or back playing on Sunday?
USCHO has an excellent recap of the game: http://www.uscho.com/recaps/20042005/m/11/12/cor-msu.php
Clearly, Mike will make the paint peel off the walls today in encouraging the team to start the next game emotionally-prepared. The tie makes the Sunday game very important in terms of PWR.
Still, this is the kind of game Cornell would have lost a few years ago, like all those "almosts" at the Everblades. It's heartening to see the Red get something out of the game, even if it's treading water. MSU has been getting better and they'll probably rise through the year and be a solid top 10 team by March.
The gametracker implied at first last night that he had a DQ, but now checking:
http://www.collegehockeystats.com/0405/boxes/mcormsu1.n12
says it's just a misconduct. (He can play on Sunday therefore)

Some of the box scores warn that the official box score may change after theirs was posted. Thus the confusion as to whether Pokoluk plays Sunday.
If the ref was thinking ahead, or maybe it was just serendipity, calling a game misconduct (but a next-game DQ) with 45 seconds left in the game sends a strong message and Cornell has a pretty good history of killing off 45 seconds worth of scoring chances.
You think Pokoluk is a marked man on Sunday now?
