This week's user poll on USCHO asks which is the biggest surprise of the young season, and Cornell being #8 at 4-0-0 is one of the options. With over 1600 votes, that choice is way down the list at about 5%. I think this may be a pretty good manifestation of the "institutional memory" factor that has helped us up to #8 to begin with. Cornell's been a very good team in recent years, so it's not a surprise we're at 4-0-0, and neither is it a surprise that we're #8.
Except, apparently, to us. :-)

I'm surprised that USCHO had us as a surprise; I thought we played four lesser opponents. A winless Harvard and a 2-6 Clarkson are the surprises for me...in the ECAC. But, yeah, if we're going to be picked as the suprise of the ECAC by USCHO then I'm glad visitors think we're the least surprising.
In light of this coming weekend, I also found the inclusion of "Michigan State currently out of the Top 15 altogether" to be interesting. (Although they are also garnering only 5-6% of the vote, so maybe the general college hockey public didn't forsee them doing a whole lot.) I guess something's gotta give this weekend....or maybe not, since we could always just split.
