Title: Cornell's greatest decade in sports
Post by: billhoward on September 20, 2004, 03:52:28 PM
Pickup up from the football thread: What was Cornell's greatest decade (say 1961-1970) or greatest ten years (say 1965-1974) in sports? And fess up and say if the decade was when you were at Cornell. I bet a lot of us think the greatest decade was when we were there.

I would cheat and say it was 11 years, 1967-1977, the highlights being hockey (2 titles and 6 (7?) final fours), lacrosse (3 titles), 1 Ivy football title, a final four soccer appearance (circa 1972 I believe), Dryden, Marinaro, McEneneaney-to-French, Harkness, Moran. In the annals of college sports, they were just about the best there ever was, with the exception of Marinaro, who was just about the best there ever was in Ivy football post-Korean War. There probably were some polo titles in there, too.
