According to the NY Post (http://www.nypost.com/sports/rangers/18028.htm), Montoya was asking for the same kind of deal that Dan Blackburn got a couple years ago, but Glen Sather is "adamant" against giving that kind of deal to Montoya.

Will the minor leagues play this season if the NHL is locked out?  I imagine that has a lot to do with the decision of whether to sign a contract.

Yes, there was an article about it on theahl.com -- I'll see if I can find it.

Okay, this isn't the article I was remembering, but it's close enough:

[Q]Whether or not there is an NHL work stoppage, the AHL will definitely play a full 2004-05 season. Furthermore, in the event of a lockout, only veteran players, predominantly those on NHL rosters, would be affected. Our player supply would remain uninterrupted and the level of play in the AHL and here in Manchester would strongly resemble what you’ve seen in the past. The Los Angeles Kings place a premium on player development and have invested heavily in that area over the last several years, stockpiling draft talent with an eye toward the future. That young talent will allow us to field another strong team next season.[/Q]

Maybe the Rangers should stop drafting goalies at the top of the 1st round if they don't want to pay them...

Maybe the Rangers should stop drafting entirely, and start signing high priced antiques exclusively.

No wait....

:-P

I think most Rangers fans are glad that that trend looks like it is stopping. I was certainly glad to see all the trades at the end of last season.

I'm certainly one of those Ranger fans.  I was definitely happy to see those trades go down, but man was it painful watch Leetch go.  Hopefully they'll get this thing straightened out and then trade Jessiman.  That's their problem...this non-Red ECAC "talent".  That must be it.

Ranger fans can now start making fun of the Nets for destroying the NJ franchise: losing Martin, giving away Kittles for a song, and making it so bad Jason Kidd is asking to be traded. There won't be nothin' left of da team by da time it gets to Brooklyn.

Kidd is going to be retired by the time they get to Brooklyn anyway.
