If you were offered a scholarship and had to choose between Cornell University and Harvard University, which would you pick?
It's not that easy is it? But either way, they're both prestigious schools.
One can only imagine what's going through the mind of Alberni Valley Bulldogs defenceman, Doug Krantz, who has to make that choice.
But no matter what school Krantz chooses, he's already a winner.
"They're both really great universities," said Krantz. "I can't go wrong either way."
The 20-year-old defenceman is having a banner season with 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 goals in 48 games. He was the only Bulldog to be named to the BCHL all-star this season. And obviously it has caught the interest of the recruiters. As well, Krantz's academic marks were also key in attracting the ivy league schools. He is a straight A student.
Krantz had the opportunity to visit Cornell University in New York last week where he met officials including former Nanaimo Clippers he played against last season.
On Sunday, Krantz left for Cambridge, Massachussetts to visit Harvard University. And when he returns he will make up his mind.
Krantz said he intends to take a course in business when he goes to university. He is fully aware that an education would be valuable as he realizes the odds of him making the NHL are not that good.
"That's really what I've been working towards is having that education if things don't work out in hockey," said Krantz.
"When you're a kid that's always something you dream about, playing in the NHL. For me this is kind of the next step because I am a late bloomer as far as hockey is concerned."
Coach Rick Hillier says Krantz has really worked hard to reach this point.
"He came back in great shape and started taking control of his game," said Hillier. "He has emerged as one of the top defencemen in the league.
"A kid as intelligent as Doug is, he's going to have those opportunities. Right now those two schools are both fighting for his services which is something that's great to see."
