Just read it here.  Talked to some of the players about it and they all seem to be pretty pissed as they 1) want another shot at him and 2) don't think he's good at all.  I, personally, thought he was very good and had very high upside.  It obviously hurts Clarkson but it also hurts the ECAC as it is tough to lose players of his ilk after just one year.

Nickerson put up some pro caliber numbers as a freshman - 277 of them.

But you're right. It's too bad the ECAC loses good (at something) players to the pros. Even more so LeNeveu and Chris Higgins of Yale a year ago.

Wonder what Ken Dryden would have done if he was a sophomore at Cornell this year?

That's one nice thing about lacrosse over hockey. They're here all four years.

[Q]"I try and play a game that is similar to Derian Hatcher's. He's a big, physical defenseman who can play both the power play and the penalty kill. He does not back down to anybody and that is exactly the style I want to play one day in the NHL."[/Q]

Does crumpling to the ice in a fetal position count as "backing down"?

Not when you're playing it smart to get the other guy the DQ....

I wouldn't be surprised to see him do well in the pros.  Nickerson was a good WHL player misplaced on a college roster.

He's going to learn to keep his stick, fists, and mouth to himself, because the genuine tough guys he'll meet from now on will not suffer his foolishness gladly.

Don't forget about Randy Jones leaving Clarkson after his soph year in 2003 as well.  Him leaving allowed Clarkson to jump on Nickerson with the freed up scholarship money.
