Winning team....losing team, etc.
I don't subscribe to the theory that we beat the team that beat Maine at the Everblades, therefore, we could have taken Maine or Denver or Minnesota, nor do I subscribe to the theory that the best team wins the national championship, especially in single elimination tournament games.
But for argument sakes, if you play enough games in a tournament and all hockey champs now play four and all basketball champs six, we might be able to come up with the worst tournament team, the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that won the national championship. Following this theory, the worst, weakest or weakest link in this year's hockey tournament was New Hampshire. New Hampshire lost to Michigan, Michigan lost to Boston College, Boston College lost to Maine and Maine lost to Denver who won the national title.
Applying this to basketball, it's the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that won the national championship. The weakest link in the basketball tourney would be Florida. Aren't they always the weakest link? Florida lost to Manhattan. Manhattan lost to Wake Forest. Wake Forest lost to St. Joseph's. St. Joseph's lost to Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State lost to Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech lost to UConn who won the national title.
You are the weakest link. Goodbye. You're fired. Sayonara. Food for thought. ::popcorn::

you forgot "the tribe has spoken" ;-)
Reality shows suck. :-P
Cornell beat Ohio State. The Buckeyes beat somebody who probably beat Denver. So we're just as good as national champions.
You could probably follow a route so convoluted the Big Red basketball team could have been proven better than UConn, but that's one I wouldn't want to back up on a court.
Ok, here goes
Assuming you mean the men's team:
(this might not be the most direct)
-------------------------------------------------
Cornell beat Lehigh 89-76 (Jan 6)
Lehigh beat Holy Cross 63-53 (Jan 30)
Holy Cross beat BU 59-57 (Nov 22)
BU beat Michigan 61-60 (Dec 30)
Michigan beat Rutgers 62-55 (Apr 1)
Rutgers beat Providence 65-64 (Jan 10)
Providence beat UConn 66-56 (Jan 24)
So, really, we basically, essentially, are the National Champions. Jon Stewart was right.
In other news, our women's polo team (the one with the horses, not in the water) just won it's umpteenth consecutive National Championship.

Connect Cornell winning the NCAAs to Kevin Bacon in 6 steps or less.
Go.

Too bad Cornell can't have a women's hockey team as competitive as the men's team. Harvard and Dartmouth do. Women's lacrosse came close, what, two years back to the NCAA title.

Assuming you're refering to the very mythical NCAA Basketball title described above-
Step 1) Cornell wins the championship and Billy Packer interviews us after the surprising victory
Step 2) Packer and Bacon sit together at a roast for Steve Lavin, see http://uclabruins.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/lavin_steve00.html
Cornell won the NCAAs in 1967 with Ken Dryden
Ken Dryden was in Miracle with Kurt Russell
Kurt Russell was in 3000 Miles To Graceland with Christian Slater
Christian Slater was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon
:-D
::laugh:: , jkahn and jmh!
The Oracle of Bacon says that Ken Dryden has a Bacon number of 2, not three.
1) Ken Dryden was in Miracle (2004) with Sean (I) McCann
2) Sean (I) McCann was in Air Up There, The (1994) with Kevin Bacon
Christian Slater wasn't in A Few Good Men. ( http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000225/ )
hermo's thinking of a murder in the first. get your lame court movies straight, josh.
I've got one...
The Cornell Hockey team as a collective unit was in Love Story, where Tommy Lee Jones played Hank.
Tommy Lee Jones was in JFK with Kevin Bacon.
So this is what we talk about in the offseason. Wow. I'll see you folks in October. ::screwy::

Yes, and apparently Ned Harkness only allowed the Cornell Jerseys to be worn if Cornell won the game.
Cornell lost to Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech lost to UConn. At least that goes in chronological order.
