Title: The NCAA on top of its game again
Post by: Beeeej on April 09, 2004, 01:53:52 PM
Last year, the intro video for Cornell lauded our 1969-70 perfect season "backstopped by Ken Dryden."

This year, during the second semi, after Denver had completed their comeback, a "Did You Know?" on the big screen announced that this would be the sixth year in a row that the WCHA and Hockey East would face off in the finals.

I wonder - in 1999, which was the WCHA team - Maine, or New Hampshire?

Well, you get to play four varsity seasons, right, and since Dryden broke in in the 1966-67 season, that must have been his freshman year.

It's no different than the number of people who believe Bill Buckner's, ah, miscue led to the winning run against the Sox on that very play.

It's one thing for the average fan to believe it, another for the NCAA to announce it.

Speaking of being on top of their game, the webcast link for the hobey presentation on hobeybaker.com is still "coming soon!" Like next year?

Actually, the Mets did score the game winning (although not series winning) run on that play. Earlier in the at bat, a wild pitch had scored the tying run and advanced Knight to second. He then scored on the grounder through Buckner's legs.

There are probably some western windbags on USCHO who think they both were. ::rolleyes::

Mea culpa. It was of course the game-winning on that play, not the series-winning run, that scored, and and left the Sox so disconsolate they never really had a chance in game seven. Sort of like Cornell never had a chance in game 3 against Clarkson this year after coming so close in game 2 and expending all their emotional energy then.

The Red Sox were winning Game Seven 3-0 in the 6th inning with Bruce Hurst, the presumptive series MVP, on the mound.  They most certainly had a chance.  The Mets simply beat them.  Again.

Nah, more likely that those folks say that '99 "doesn't count"...

Brian Cropper would be a wealthy man (is he?) if he had a nickel for every time that mistake is made.   I think most Clarkson rooters know who the goalie was!

Just as most Cornell rooters of that era know very well who the Clarkson goalie was in 1969-70.

Shame that Bullock, a superb goalie, ran into the one perfect team in the history of college hockey. Maybe he was atoning in advance for the alleged sins of defenseman Nickerson 34 years later.
