I won't be updating the subject line (to avoid the bug).
This is the first Game 3 in Lynah history. Let's Go Red!
No Vesce tonight.:-/
Game start 7:00?
Yes it starts at 7. Pregame on now.
... RED!!! ...
Knights SUCK!
Cornell PP. Hynes draws a penalty after nearly scoring.
Here's hoping Friday night wasn't Vesce's last game as a member of the Big Red.
Clarkson's at full strength. They still suck.
Offsetting penalties, and we are at 4x4. ~15 mins left.
And now 4x3 as one of the Abbotts gets called for holding the stick.
Blight scores early in the 4x3. Clarkson moved the puck very well. Tight triangle didn't work.
Am I nuts or are the Clarkson point guys getting much closer to the net on their power play than we are?
1 5:20 Clk pp Blight (Latulippe)
Cornell on the PP again, as one of the Abbotts gets levelled. 13:52 left.
and you are right, Al.
you're right. Our point men play way back. We were also playing the tight triangle so they could pinch in more
Clarkson killed the penalty again.
How does the crowd sound tonight, with the Guster concert, and the extra tickets?
7:10 left. Big Red starting to get physical. Icing by Clarkson.

Sounds like a morgue to me.
We look terrible so far. All over the place. Hopefully we can get organized, slow it down, relax.

A morgue with echo.
Great. You can always rely on Cornell fans to bolt a hockey game for a Guster concert, even though Guster blows...wish I got into Duke so I could be around real fans.
morgues are pretty loud then....that first goal shocked everyone but the crowd is in it

Looked pretty good for 2:05. Wish one of those early chances had gone in.
transfer
Coming out looking terrible in a do or die Game 3...Not a good indicator of how ready these guys were for tonight, maybe stayed out too late last night.
Well, we came out riding high, but have dropped off. They really miss Vesce.
agreed. we can't win a faceoff and we again look confused bringing the puck out of the zone.
Period ends. We looked better during the kill and final minute. Hopefuly Mike can regroup them.
End of one.
Wallace had the puck jump his stick when he had a golden opportunity right in front.
I think that was Glover.

Right.
UNH stepped it up last year without Gare. It's time for us to do it tonight.

Funny, my daughter's at Duke but home on spring break. We went to the Harvard -Brown game last night and she said to me "Dad, this feels like more like college than basketball at Duke". And that at half full Brown rink.
But I was dragging her to the Garden and Bright since she was 8, so I guess it's all what you're used to.
Personally I think it's better that you get the "facetimer" fans outta there. You're left with more of the true ones that'll hopefully be rewarded tonight
We've got bigger problems right now than worrying about who's a good fan. Let's get some goals!
2d period underway.
If there was ever a time for a shorty...
Faceoffs 21-9 Clarkson.
Hornby to the box. Retaliates against Nickthedick for holding his stick.
[Q]Greg Berge Wrote:

Hornby just pasted McInvon (sp?).
Vesce being out kills us on faceoffs.
yup, that sounds right...are those your tallies?
I agree with the guy that said UNH stepped it up without Gare last year in the FROZEN FOUR (of all places to step up)...No excuses for our guys tonight,if they play with enough intensity they can still defeat this Clarkson team.

And the PP, and the PK, and has also shaken up three of Friday night's lines.
The Red are s l o w l y starting to take control of the neutral zone.

ah, good reminder!
Elbowing on Edwards. Here comes another Cornell pp.
Any ECAC scores readily available?

Edwards to the box for an elbow. Cornell gets another PP.
Come on, guys!!!

None of 'em matter unless this one changes.

DC-RPI is 0-0.

0-0 in Hanover, best as I can tell.
6:17 to go.
Passing is terrible.
We've taken one shot this period.
Clarkson now has the advantage and is keeping Cornell running in its end. Bad feeling about this, so far. :-/
5:50 to go.
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE
Seems that every time we blow a power play chance, Murphy blows the whistle right back in their favor. Anyone else notice this? Its like Murphy is trying to alternate power plays for the hell of it.
We can't do a thing. This is as bad as we've looked in a while. We are getting outskated and we are getting stuck in scrums in the corner without winning them.
Colgate goes up 2-1 on a PP goal
First great skirmish in front of Traylen, and Clarkson ices it. That was nice -- keep it up.
Yup. Nickerson shaken up on the Hynes hit.
this strict man to man is scaring me
Hangin McKee out to dry there...
Holding on Clarkson -- Cornell going on pp again.
One more pp chance for the Red with 1:47 left in the period.
I believe.
[Q]Greg Berge Wrote:

Hope they can get a few on net.
2 19:03 Clk sh Faulkner (unassisted)
FUCK.
Clarkson shorthanded.
This is so fucking embarrassing.
Is it me, or has Moulson totally disappeared this weekend?
Why is Sommel...or w/e his name is playing on the PP. I mean they don't have anyone else even a lil more experienced??
oh my god...
Shots 12-6 Clarkson in 2nd period.
And the pp looked good for about 20 seconds. I can't believe how inept the guys look tonight. Clarkson looks faster and more aggressive. Their passing is crisp and creative, while we seem to just fling the puck around at random.
"They've been outplayed all game. They deserve to be down two-nothin'. Fuckin' brutal."
You said it, brutha. (And I forgive you. :P)
Even after the LAZYASS 1ST PERIOD WE PLAYED, WE COME OUT AND GET OUTPLAYED, OUTHUSTLED OUTSHOT OUTEVERYTHING in the 2nd period...Schafer has lost control of his team.

The PP was awful last night with Pegoraro. Mike put Salmela in as a seventh d-man just for the PP. That, unfortunately, means he doesn't have four full lines playing.
WE'RE GONNA NEED A MIRACLE!!! ::nut::

[/Q]Salmela has a heavy shot from the point. Not that we ever get the puck to the point. Or that he bothers to shoot when he gets it. Or that anyone is in position for rebounds.
This is an old school ass-kicking and we have 20 minutes to turn it around.
BRA, I agree wholeheartedly with you and Adam. It's too bad we're down 2-0, but Cornell has just played like crap the last 5 periods, and indeed deserves to be losing at this point, no matter how much we might not like it.
I *knew* this weekend wasn't going to be a cakewalk: during my time on the Hill (94-98), Clarkson was our *real* rival, being the one team that could consistently give us a hard time without it being some kind of karmic retribution (e.g., with Union). I must admit, even with the loss last night and them losing right now, I am enjoying this weekend much more than some I've watched over the past year. Maybe it's just nostalgia. :P
Cheers,
Kyle
It's not that he has disappeared, it's that Clarkson has keyed in on him.
Clarkson's on a mission -- we need to have the same jump, and I'm afraid we're also going to need to get the breaks. But it can certainly be done. 2 goals leads aren't unassailable -- just ask Yale.
my audio and video cut out just as the clarkson guy fell (and stayed) down...anyone know what happened??
We're all thinking that, Adam W. I hope the FCC doesn't fine you a half million! :-P
The scoreboard isn't showing the Too Many Men penalty on Clarkson at 20:00. Can anyone confirm there was a call?

Thought they were complaining about a no-call on Cornell.
He was hit pretty hard by the point shot.
Think of it this way. If they come back and win, it will be one of the great efforts of all time.
Wallace is pinching a lot...this could get ugly if it doesn't turn out well... ;-)
Just got here. How much time left?
start of the third...radio guys can't find Nickerson
It wasn't on the radio, only the webcast during a radio commercial. No FCC worries. (I think.)
One time accidental utterances don't get fines anyway.
How much time left now??
Cornell is trying to throw it at the net more. I think it is time to throw caution to the wind, Red.
LET'S GO RED!!!
[Q]Dan '81 Wrote:

Haven't scored in 65+ minutes.
Hey guys, the boards are not our friends. Stop sending around the boards onto Clarkson sticks!
Clarkson kicked one in, ruled unintentional. 3-0.
OMG THIS IS EMBARASSING
12:34 to go. Cornell's problem is they have no system for this -- so it'll all be freelance from here on out.
Mixed blessing. Cornell goes on the power play.
Cornell pp coming up. I'd think about pulling McKee when we have it in the O zone to get a 5x3.
Good idea.
CAM ABBOTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FINALLY! Cornell with a PP goal (Cam from Chris and Wallace). 3-1
So much for that. Freak goal by Clarkson. 4-1.
:`(
Gotta keep at them. We aint gonna get 3 goals without taking 3 shots.
Forlorn cowbell. 8:12 left.
Too little, too late
6:27 left. Another Cornell pp. Penalty against Faulkner.
Cornell pp. A quick one would give us hope.
Not having seen a majority of the games....has Vesce been worth thi much to cornell offense? I'm surprised that moulsen and hynes aren't involved more
Vesce keys it because he wins the face offs and gives us puck control.
Unfortunately, it will soon be "Vesce keyed it ..." :-/
I worry about the impact that this may have on recruiting.

[Q]Greg Berge Wrote:

What time is left?
Ok, we just need one goal a minute.
::worry::
Now we need . . . yeah, it's over.
Faulkner pots the empty netter.
Someone in the crowd gets stupid and tosses a water bottle. Way to go out with class.

Mike changed three of his four lines in response to the injury (and the Varteressian DQ last night). Looks to me like it just disrupted everything. Also shows, as Yogi said, how much of this or any game is mental. We went from the best I've seen us play all season (Friday) to the worst, literally overnight.
The last-minute SHG really killed us--psychologically as much as anything--and the fluke goal was simply the last straw. I hope the effect of this collapse doesn't carryover into next year's psyche. Vesce's now gone forever.
Losing is part of sports. When you have to face it, keep your dignity.
Clarkson earned this win -- more power to them.
Finishing in second place in a down year was a tremendous achievement. Thank you seniors.
That's it, guys. Season's over. After Lenny and our seniors left last year, I suspected this season would not be nearly as exciting, but they exceeded my expectations in nearly every way, *especially* McKee. Nonetheless, these last two games have been extremely disappointing even in light of Vesce's injury, and I hope Schafer and the underclassmen learn from this experience.

J.P. '96 [/Q]A little paranoid, I think. It's just a loss.
Hate to say it, but Vesce unintentionally abandons us after Friday night.
?????????????????? HOW THE HELL????????????????
If you hate to say it, then don't.

Great series by Clarkson. An amazing comeback after the Friday night game. George Roll does good work.
Based on what we have seen from Vesce for the past four years, it is safe to say if there was any way for him to be on the ice, he would have been. I think we all need to read some of the posts from early this year. The team played very well, far beyond expectations aftrer the graduating class last year. The sophomore and freehman classes are going to be tremendous in years to come. Sad to see it end this way, but this is just the beginning for the new group...

Hopefully the boys will be able to build off of the experience. Ya gotta deal with the loses to help prepare for the glory

haha....well I have to pay for being a Yankee fan somehow.
Thanks again Cornell for letting us watch. Wouldn't wanna be anywhere else
I know! Let's blame everything on the fans who jingled their keys with 4 minutes left on Friday night! ::screwy::
Win or lose I'll always be a diehard Lynah Faithful. This team gave us more excitement than we expected for a rebuilding year, and I'm confident in our chances next season. GO RED!!
Cornell doesn't rebuild, they just reload.
/got nothin'
Here's to an exciting season, with a great late season run to finish in 2nd. Plenty for the team to build on

And wrestling. NCAAs next week. Turn the tables on Penn. Hopefully another title for Lee, this time at 133.
Well.............
What can I say? I haven't looked at all the threads yet to recap, but I was listening to the RPI game (they lost to Dartmouth 1-0 to lose that series), so I didn't know it came down to 5-1. Yes, I agree... VERY disappointing ! (at least it wasn't a shutout)
Weird series: each team got a 5-1 game, so it all came down to the one extra goal on Sat. night in that 5-4 loss....... I don't care who wins in Albany now, as long as its not Harvard.
Just very wierd......we finally score 9 goals in two games, but still lose the series? Where the hell was the "D" when we needed it?............... :-(

I was thinking something similar tonight. I was almost about to say to the very cordial Clarkson fans (in other words, not like the assholes in section O) sitting in front of me in section G, "Whatever you do, just beat Harvard."
[Q]Mike put Salmela in as a seventh d-man just for the PP. That, unfortunately, means he doesn't have four full lines playing. [/Q]
Just reading through the game thread for the hell of it.........Actually, Salmela played a little non PP time as a forward. I noticed this because I saw Salmela deep in the offensive zone and looked back to the blue line, where Downs and O'Byrne were standing.

If I heard Adam right, Salmela took a third period faceoff, too.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but are you sure that didn't happen right after the end of a PP?
In any case, it was weird to see Salmela playing instead of Pegs or even McLeod. Don't get me wrong, I think Salmela is a fine player, but only as a defenseman.
[Q]I'm not saying you're wrong, but are you sure that didn't happen right after the end of a PP?[/Q]
I am 100% positive that Salmela was used as a forward for one or two non-PP-related shifts. And I think both times, this happened in the 3rd period. They had to try something for God's sake!
how do you come out that flat 2 games in a row in the playoffs?
maybe mckee had a bet on the game
[Q]maybe mckee had a bet on the game[/Q]
Maybe you're an idiot.

Assuming those two shifts were towards the end of the game, I guess you're right. At that point, anything would have worked.
maybe i'm an idiot? #2 goalie in the nation plays like shit 2 games in a row, against a shitty ass team -- the most important 2 games of the season. that was a gross display of hockey. yea, vesce wasnt there and we definitly missed him. but, no one stepped up to fill the void. what a terrible way to end a season, especially after showing how much better we are than clarkson on friday. sorry, but i'm friggen pissed.
