Title: History
Post by: jtwcornell91 on March 14, 2004, 01:36:48 AM
Last night was Cornell's first playoff loss at Lynah since 1988 vs Clarkson (either game one or the mini-game, depending on whether you think the latter counts).  The last playoff non-win at Lynah was the tie in 1997 vs Harvard.

This is the third Game Three (not counting the mini-game) that Cornell has ever played (the other two being 1991 at Michigan in the NCAA First Round and 1998 at RPI in the ECAC Quintafinals).  It's the first Game Three ever played at Lynah.

This is the second time Cornell has had the same opponent in four straight games.  They opened 1913 with 4 losses to Princeton.

A Cornell win coupled with a Colgate loss tonight would give Cornell 6 straight games against North Country opponents.

Thanks JTW and Greg for digging deeper into the stats books.  I always hoped the Game 3 if necessary would never be necessary.  98 was easier to bear despite being stuck in Troy for three days because we knew after Game 1 we had to win the next two to take the series.  Of course our reward for that comeback was the first ever play-in game at Placid with Princeton in the only year they've ever won the ECAC or made the NCAA's coming out of the stupid play-in game to win it all and making it look like the play-in game belonged, which it didn't.  Present format = much better except for the Albany part.  But glad to know at one point we beat Princeton in four straight games even if it was pre-WWI.

In his game article, Adam recapped a summary of the 'first time since....' that he mentioned between periods last night (I think missing a commercial break or the start of the period call or both).

Should I challenge you to come up with Cornell's all-time record on this 'day of rest' aka Sunday.

Read what Greg wrote most closely.  They beat us those four times, lamentably.

In fact. Tom, we won the first game at RPI in 1998, and then missed what would have been the clinching tie in the second game when a late goal was disallowed and RPI went the other way to get a second goal while we were celebrating.

What do I remember, it's not like I was there or anything :-)

My recollection for the late 90's Al, is not as good as yours is for the late 60's.  ;-)
