Just curious to see what everyone thinks. Maybe this is a topic best left until after tonight's game- I guess I'll leave that to you elynah vets.
Do people think Vart was sent by Coach? What're some of the readings on the fight?
I've heard people saying that little Nikki was slashing our guys (Esp. Vesce & Moulson) all night. Was PV sent in for some protection & retribution?
Not that Vart didn't get slashed himself, too.
Someone on one thread said that Nickerson tried to get at some fans in Sec C? Is this true? Anyone know the story?
And, what happened with McKee's mask getting torn off? I couldn't quite see it.
Ok- Cheers to all. Let's make it hell for Clarkson tonight.
:-D
Don't think he was sent by Schafer. That would be completely unacceptable, especially with the events of this week. If Varteressian initiated it right when he got onto the ice, one would think that him being sent out to do it was a possibility. But it happened like 25 seconds into his shift, a shift in which Varteressian and Nickerson were going at it pretty hard the whole way. Obviously everyone on Cornell knows Nickerson's number and Varteressian just seemed to have had enough. Make no mistake. Him not playing tonight IS a loss to the team. The last three games, he has really elevated his play and made that fourth line the most effective it has been all year, something the much more skilled Daniel Pegoraro has not been able to do.
McKee's mask was pushed off by Faulkner after McKee had covered a puck, clearly done in frustration. It drew a huge crowd and caused a big raucus (four double minors handed out). Roll specifically commented on the play affirming that it was a cheap shot and that he told his players to cool it right afterwards.
Vart probably was not sent by Schafer.
But, if Vart had managed to get the FAT SLOW GOON thrown out of tonights' game while beating the crap out of him, he would have come off looking like a genius.
It would certainly be tempting, if your the coach, to sacrifice one of your forth line wingers to try to get their guy out of the next game. I don't think it was a stupid penalty. It is definitely curious that it happened well after the point where the game was in hand, and that it was arguably one of the most expendable players dressed.
I don't think he was sent out there to fight but he was sent out there to bang. He has played the Hornby roll all season long now that Hornby is a true player. When Nickerson slashed Vart twice his head exploded.
