Title: NCAA tournament
Post by: Yum, Hot Truck on February 24, 2004, 01:33:28 PM
I know, one step at a time, but....

What's are the chances of us getting into the real tourney?

Only with an ECAC championship?  or do we get in the back door with a strong showing and based on recent strong performance in the Tournament.

At-large bid is gone.  We're too low to even be a bubble team.  Being in the underperforming ECAC, we can't get enough "quality" wins with our remaining ECAC-only schedule to move up and earn an at-large bid.

Our only chance is to win the tourney and get the autobid.

"Recent strong performance in the Tournament" is irrelevant to selection.

The only chance is to win it all in Albany.  Odds of that as of now are about 6:1 or 7:1 (assuming about 50/50 for the SF and F and a decent favorite status in the QF round, and again a decent chance of getting a bye).

I'd bump our chances by at least 5% each for getting Vesce and or Cook back healthy for the playoffs.

The reason it would take a miracle for Cornell to receive an at large bid is that we are 21st in the PairWise Rankings.  We would have to finish in the top 13, and it's all based on this year's performance.

See www.uscho.com/rankings  and hit the link to the PairWise Rankings on the left
