Title: Beanpot SPOILER thread
Post by: jtwcornell91 on February 02, 2004, 08:22:26 PM
Cavanaugh scores an own goal, buring a nice feed from Patrick Eaves past Dov.   ::help::

1-0 Boys Club in the 1st.

Oh, and Dov kicks another one in after a puck tossed over the net hits him in the back.  ::uhoh::

2-0 Eagles.

Is there a webcast of this game available?

This really is odd "pulling" for Sucks...

4-1 BC with 1:06 to go...

BC finishes off the Cantabs with a PPG with a minute to play.  4-1 BC.

So it'll be another BU-BC Beanpot final.  Yawn.

looks like another bu/bc beanpot final...

so...bu gonna win it (again)?

Would have been nice (for us) had Sucks beat BC...  ah well.

The score should have been a lot closer than it was.  Between the two BC fluke goals in the first period, the soft third goal, and the fourth goal coming after an undisciplined cross-checking penalty, Harvard could have had a much better fate in this game.

On the positive side, Northeastern might actually suck enough that Harvard can beat them in the consolation game next week.

Once Harvard recovers from its annual post-finals fog and stops shooting itself in the foot, Harvard will be a team to be reckoned with.  I assure you that no team in the ECAC wants to face the Crimson (or the Big Red) in the playoffs.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but this isn't a post-final fog, it's a post Labor Day whiteout.  These guys are 8-11-2.  35th in RPI and 34th in KRACH.  We swept them.

They just aren't good.

That depends on whether Harvard is a team or just a bunch of talented players who happen to be wearing the same uniform.  I don't think we have to worry about the team thing with Cornell.

Harvard's D looked okay, but they only had about 7 shots halfway through the game - I think the score turned out about right, actually.

Although Harvard couldn't put anything together offensively besides the Charlie Johnson goal and BC had an overwhelming terirtorial advantage, BC didn't get any grade A scoring chances until the power play late in the game.  This could easily have been a 1-0 or 2-1 game.  Quite a contrast from the opening minutes of the BU-Northeastern game, during which the defenses forgot to show up.

Harvard announcers discussing "breeding."

It's not what you think.

Gee, Northeastern scored...and you could tell that something happened before the announcers said it.  Lots of Northeastern fans cheering, whereas on the one Harvard goal there was very little.

8:05 left
Northeastern 2 Harvard 1

Title: Pairawise Sinking
Post by: Rich Gourley on February 09, 2004, 08:37:10 PM
The loss by Harvard dropped CU to 26 in the pairawise rankings.  Brown dropped to 17 and Colgate dropped to 15.  Way to go Harvard you just screwed the rest of the league with your pitiful performance!!!!!!!

BC beat BU 2-1 in overtime in the Beanpot championship game.  BC had a huge territorial edge, but Sean Fields played great.  Fields made 50 saves and nearly won BU the game.  Ryan Murphy scored the game-winning goal after a David van der Gulik turnover.

I like BC's chances to win it all.  The Eagles play great defensively, and they have enough offensive talent to advance far in the NCAA tournament.

He also won the Beanpot MVP in a losing effort.

Which reminds me... from what I heard, this afternoon's Who Wants To Be a Millionaire featured college students, including one from Cornell and one from Harvard.

Again, this is purely based on what someone told me, but the Harvard student apparently made it safely to the $1000 mark, then proceeded to emphatically state that a popular breakfast meal at Denny's is the "Slam Dunk."

For comparison, the Cornell person won $16,000.
