I really think after last nights game something needs to be done. However, Shafer's tongue is basically tied after what he did last time he said something. Joel Dupree, and Scott Hansen came into their games knowing that first, they wanted us to lose, and second, that it would not matter if they let our players get injured. If this kind of refereeing keeps going on, Andy Noel has to do something like issue a threat to the ECAC. I think that we the fans should start a petition to the ECAC asking for better, non-bias, fair referees. This would show them how angry we are, but in a mature, respectable way. Any thoughts?
How do you propose to have such a petition without making it seem like sour grapes? The team is in a big slump and now we are asking for "non-bias, fair referees"? I'm not sure it is possible to make a petition come off in a mature, respectable way. Also, do you really think Hansen wanted us to lose? That's going to be difficult to prove. It's not like we didn't have our chances on the power play. The best solution is for the team to go up to Hamilton tonight and win.
This is in my opinion ridiculous. Last night's game was well-refereed. We did not lose because of the refereeing. If anything, the penalties against Colgate were the ones that weren't deserved. I didn't hear what Moulson said to get ejected, so I dont know about that one, but O'Byrne's penalty to put us down 5 on 3 had to be called, Carefoot's pick was a penalty, the call on Glover may have been a bit iffy, Bitz butt-ended the guy after the play which was pretty stupid... We were like 0/7 on the power play, including a 5 on 3, we were outplayed, outshot, and outscored. These are the reasons why we lost, and i think it is silly to blame the refereeing. Mckee, who played awesome, was the only reason it wasn't 5-0.
And how about our pplay/pkilling lines? I dont understand why we have Wallace and Pegoraro out there on the power play. Our best line (after Moulson and Bitz were ejected) were Hornby, Chris Abbott, and their linemate (Hynes played with them a few times and was great). Who else would you want in front of the net or in the corner on a pplay besides Hornby and Abbott? Why not put Gleed or Downs out there instead of Wallace since they can actually pass and shoot? And Pegoraro's passing and skating is just atrocious! He is like a pinball. We had about 6 good players out there last night, and that is why we lost.
The refereeing was good, and if we didnt do stupid stuff - exactly what Schafer was complaining about not being called - then we wouldnt have to kill 8 power plays, including 2 majors, and we wouldnt have lost 2 of our best players after already starting sans Cam Abbott and Charlie Cook.
Hey all - I agree w/ Beav - I sit in N and agree with the Bitz call and the Carefoot obstruction as obvious calls in fornt of official - - We didn't play well last night for whatever reason - I didn't agree with all of Hansen's calls but a fan in one seating location is never going to agree with all of the referee's calls! Hansen is one of the best refs we will see and he called a fair game. (I respect anyone who refs at this level - it is a thankless almost impossible job and my hat's off to those guys and gals)
Unfortunately we didn't keep our cool and counted on the physical strength and hard hits to carry us instead of moving our feet as a team and playing hockey. We did take some very poor penalties.
Here's hoping tonight we have the feet moving as a team and we come out and play well together and give Gate "heck" ! :-)
