Is the Hockey Cam functional yet?  I'm hoping to get it up here at work.  I've had serious firewall issues before, but those are supposedly fixed....I'm not able to connect yet.

Man, that was a great period!

It would have been nice to get a third on the quick whistle, the cover up over the line, or the solid post, but what we have we'll take!

Harvard's a good team and Mazzolini is a good coach -- they'll regroup.  I hope we can maintain that pressure next period -- we'll need it.

is anyone else having the same problem with the video? very strange (like it is streaming slowly) with clicking for the audio?
audio on yahoo or the link mark gave is great.

We've heard good responses on video quality tonight. Audio clicking could just be that it's a sucky AM signal that's hard to get clearly almost anywhere in the county.

The game was the last Friday of classes in December for years, and yes, we used to get fairly "lubricated."  (Of course, as freshmen we could still legally drink at 18, and the 20 and then 21 age never really caught on with our generation, if you know what I mean...)

There used to be a lot of alcohol-related incidents on Frdiay nights (imagine C-town with about twice the number of bars as it has now and you get the picture circa 1982), so the games were then moved to Sunday p.m. (which didn't seem to adversely affect anyone's imbibing).  After a while, the date rotated Winter/Spring, and then it started to float in the schedule, where we are now.

Title: Re: video
Post by: marty\'74 on February 01, 2002, 08:07:55 PM
Mark,

There is a Quicktime vs Windows problem with the audio side of the Hockeycam.  I do think this is a Windows problem because of the following.  Note that the hard to listen audio occurs in both the streaming and the archive version of the program.

All of the following were present on Road Runner connections.

The one time I did not get a problem with the audio was when I tried to listen at my brothers house.  He did not have the current Quicktime installed on his Windows XP OS so no video was seen but the audio was perfect.

On my three computers there is the audio problem  All three are slightly different.  My main computer is a Windows XP machine with a Creative Sound Blaster Live audio card.  My son's computer is a Windows 98 machine with the same Sound Blaster card and my daughter's machine is a Windows 98 with an AMD processor and a different Sound Blaster card.

So I am interested in whether anyone has a Win98 machine or Win XP machine in which the audio and video are perfect.  Preferably the machine should be connected to a broadband connection like cable or DSL.

My solution is to listed to the yahoo broadcast on one machine and to watch the video on the Hockeycam.  Tonight Yahoo is lagging the Hockeycam.

Also I haven't seen any posts from people watching the Hockeycam over a modem connection.  Age thought that this would not work once the bandwidth was improved and I have been wondering if he is right or if the Apple software is smarter than he thought.

Thanks for all your efforts.

Have you checked to see if the built in firewall is active in Win XP?  It is turned on by default if you try to do the networking utility to set up a local network between your machines.

If you can't find the firewall on off switch I will look for it and post how to find it.

Title: Re: Harvard v. Cornell
Post by: Jodi on February 01, 2002, 10:23:12 PM
and the Oscar goes to Palahicky for the best piece of acting I've ever seen in a hockey game.  About 4 minutes into the game, Underhill and one of the defensemen were both stickless.  The puck got knocked into the air near Palahicky.  In a nice piece of quick thinking, he gloved it behind his back, hid the puck, and started "frantically" looking around his feet for the puck.  Absolutely hilarious.  And it got a whistle that the Red desperately needed at that point in time.

Best visual from the game:  one of the linesmen pushing one of the Harvard players across the ice to the bench.  Worst:  those damn fish that kept flying.  I believe that the third Harvard goal was caused by a fish thrown during play right in the middle of the Cornell zone.  Dumb!  I can't believe how many times fish got thrown at absolutely stupid moments (...any time after the initial toss is a stupid moment).

The players were *really* up for this game.  It was fun to watch and fast-paced.

First game I've been to where I wasn't in a red and white striped shirt with either a trombone or a tuba.  But I still got to play Swannee.  :)

This was the best the crowd has been in any of the 6 home Harvard games I've been at.  Of course the fish during  the game sucked.  Palahicky's fake was hilarious...but it looked to me like he was pretending it was stuck in his right glove, while he was holding it behind his back with his left.  The crowd was so loud tonight, that I had a VERY hard time hearing the band play Davy after a goal, so I barely knew when to start counting goals....and I was in C.

Amazing performance by the Red, amazing fan support today....made it a game to remember.

Post by: jy3 on February 01, 2002, 11:04:41 PM
congrats to the RED on a great game tonight. seemed to click in aspects 2nite.
shame on the idiots who didnt know when NOT to throw fish. expect heavy searching next year for fish (or this year if they face harvard at home in the playoffs (knock on wood).
so did paolini get the hatty or what? looks like one got taken away from him. it was cool that the last hatty was by kozier at lynah east when i was there! sweet.
anywho, keep up the good work RED.

Here is the poop from www.collegehockeystats.com:

First Star: Sam Paolini (Cornell)
Second Star: Matt Underhill (Cornell)
Third Star: Shane Palahicky (Cornell)

What I heard was Adam Wooden's(sp?) pick of the stars.  So then who picked the stars as listed above?  Notice that whoever it is, they can spell Paolini! ;-)

Of course my fingers are dyslexic.  But the M. and M. McRae thing is just my atherosclerotic cerebrum showing.
Title: Re: Harvard v. Cornell
Post by: judy on February 02, 2002, 11:28:51 AM
Gotta agree, the game was great and the crowd was nothing like I've seen in my last four/five years here. The only thing I could've done without though were the extremely intoxicated girls in the row behind me who were using me and Melissa and leaning posts (they had problems standing) and the one girl who every other sentence (fragment) out of her mouth include the work f*ck.

By the way, did anyone catch Nowak (was it him? or I think it was #15) getting hit in the head with a fish right after the national anthems? That was really kinda nasty and I gotta say, one of my fears was that he'd complain to either the ref or to Mazz.
Title: Re: Harvard v. Cornell
Post by: gwm3 on February 02, 2002, 11:43:47 AM
Yes, I definitely saw a Harvard player get hit in the face with a fish while he had his helmet off for the anthem.  It is very unfortunate that a few morons had to make us all look very bad.  Throwing fish after the first toss is bad enough, but throwing bottles (which actually caused Coach to look up and yell at Section A at the end of the game) is extremely classless.  It reflects badly on the 95% of our fans who provided strong support for the team last night, and on the school as a whole.
Title: Re: Harvard v. Cornell
Post by: JDeafv on February 02, 2002, 12:48:16 PM
When Coach Schafer yelled up at the crowd "no more" with a motion across his neck it was not very cool.  The bottles at the end of the game were unfortunate  and WTF was that pillow right at the end of the game?

As for the game, Harvard really played terrible (Colgate is on a roll, Harvard better watch out).  Harvard allowed Cornell to have way too much space all over the ice and our guys took advantage of that.  Capouch got really frustrated last night and at one point slapped his stick against the boards by the bench after a hard hit, not what a captain should be doing.

The Harvard coach got really out of line when he was banging a stick against the bench, he deserved the penalty.

Go Brown go, around the bowl and down the hole, go brown go! LGR!!!!
Title: Re: Harvard v. Cornell
Post by: jtwcornell91 on February 02, 2002, 02:50:08 PM
Presumably you mean the conduct that inspired Schafer to tell people to stop was uncool, rather than his doing it, right?

I liked the announcement in the second intermission that the players would like the fans not to hurt their team by throwing anything on the ice.  I think such an announcement in the first intermission would have the best chance of heading off the second period idiot penalty.

Actually I was coming back from the booster room at the end of the second intermission, and I passed one of the first fish-tossers being escorted from the rink by the cops; the jackoff seemed pretty pleased with himself.  Unfortunately, I didn't process the whole scene fast enough to yell at him that he was an idiot and he had just gotten Cornell a penalty.

Title: non-hat trick
Post by: jtwcornell91 on February 02, 2002, 03:01:33 PM
Actually, Sam was one of the few people in the rink that knew it wasn't a hat trick, since he had just skated over to the scorer's table to tell them the fifth goal wasn't his.  Unfortunately Arthur didn't have a chance to announce it before Sam scored again, and I'm out a crappy CafePress "Harvard Sucks" hat. ;-)

Check out the Boston Globe articlehttp://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/033/sports/Harvard_shows_some_fight_but_too_late+.shtml. Seems like a pretty decent article for CU, missing all the stupid stuff by the fans. Of course, it also skipped all the stupid stuff by Harvard.

Sorry, the link no longer works to get the article, but if you go to it and then go to Sports, then Colleges, you will be able to open the article on the CU-HU game.
