Title: Cornell in NCAA Team Rankings
Post by: Greg Berge on January 13, 2004, 03:44:52 PM
After the games of 1/10 (best ECAC team in parens, if not Cornell):

http://www.uscho.com/stats/conf.php?conf=d1

#18 Team Offense, 3.27 (#8 Dartmouth)
#5 Team Defense, 2.13 (#1 Brown)
#10 Power Play, 21.3% (#2 Brown)
#17 Penalty Kill, 85.9% (#1 Brown)

The fact that they are fifth in team defense after losing their number one goalie, top two defensemen, and the team's best defensive forward really should push Schaefer is one of the top coaches in the country for the season.  This is without any bias considering the above is fact.

The fact that Brown is #1 in PK and #2 in PP in the nation comes as no surprise after seeing them up close Saturday.  ::help::

Amen.

I hope we work on a response to the pressure their kill puts on the three "umbrella" guys before we see 'em again.

Brown reminds me of the Cornell team from 2 or 3 years back.  They seem to be a solid team that plays superb as a unit.

I think most Cornell fans are giving this Brown team the respect it deserves, but most of the hockey world is still taking them lightly (much as Cornell was overlooked in past years).

Hopefully, Brown will continue to play solid hockey (but not against us, should our paths cross again), make it to the NCAA's, and make some noise (something their travel partner is seemingly incapable of doing).

Brown was very impressive on the kill.  Coming out high on the points really seemed to disrupt our cycling.   I can well appreciate their ranking in both categories.

Yes, but that very aggressive kill left a lot of room down low and Cornell never really adjusted. Long live the damn umbrella PP.  ::barf::

Agree.  The point I was trying to make.  We started to pass it back across the blue line to avoid their forwards.  ::help::

It suprised me that there was no adjustment between periods when it was clear that Brown was hell bent on being agressive.  Must be pretty stressful at the points for our guys. One missed pass, and instant breakaway the other way.
